Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition is crucial for language learners, impacting their overall linguistic proficiency and communication abilities. This research investigated the influence of vocabulary learning strategies and study programs on maritime cadets' vocabulary test results at Sorong Merchant Polytechnic. This study employed a quantitative methodology and an ex-post facto design. The sample consisted of 91 third-semester cadets from Sorong Merchant Marine Polytechnic, representing three study programs: Port and Shipping Management, Ship Engineering, and Nautical Studies. Data were collected through a questionnaire to assess vocabulary learning strategies and a vocabulary examination based on maritime-related queries. Statistical analyses revealed no significant differences in vocabulary test scores across academic programs and learning strategies, despite the popularity of the determination strategy. However, a two-way ANOVA indicated a significant interaction effect between vocabulary learning strategies and study programs (F(7, 77) = 2.477, p = .024). This suggests that specific combinations of learning strategies and study programs may enhance vocabulary test results more effectively than individual variables alone. Therefore, developing tailored teaching methods is crucial to improve learning outcomes. Further research should explore additional factors such as motivation, prior language proficiency, and learning environment support to optimize language learning outcomes.

Abstract

The Event and MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition) industry has become increasingly important in the global economy. Bandar Lampung, as one of Indonesia's developing cities, has significant potential to develop this industry. However, the development of the event and MICE industry in this city remains underexplored and not fully optimized. Data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in 2023 indicates that Lampung is not yet among the top 10 event and MICE destinations in Indonesia. The Lampung MICE Forum 2022, held at Polinela, concluded that the development of the event and MICE industry in Bandar Lampung requires the formulation of a development strategy that is academically reviewed to be more systematic and targeted. This research aims to identify the factors affecting the development of the event and MICE industry in Bandar Lampung, identify gaps between ideal and actual conditions affecting this industry, and develop a strategy model for the industry. The research uses both primary and secondary data. Primary data is obtained through observation and interviews, while secondary data comes from literature reviews including books, journals, and policy documents. The research employs qualitative descriptive analysis, gap analysis, and spider chart analysis methods. The results indicate that developing the MICE industry in Bandar Lampung requires strategies such as enhancing human resources for MICE, improving MICE facilities, increasing public awareness of tourism development in Bandar Lampung, supporting MICE-related policies, and strengthening Bandar Lampung's branding as a MICE (Convention City) and Heritage City. Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive e-module based on Learning Management System (LMS) in English for IT course to improve learning effectiveness. This e-module is designed by integrating interactive elements such as videos, quizzes, interactive exercises, and online discussions, which aim to support the understanding of technical English concepts in the field of information technology. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. At the implementation stage, the e-module was tested on students of the Software Engineering study program at the Lampung State Polytechnic. Data were collected through user satisfaction questionnaires, and observations, and analyzed descriptively to evaluate the quality of the e-module based on aspects of readability, interactivity, and achievement of learning objectives. The results of the study indicate that this LMS-based interactive e-module is effective in improving students' understanding of English for IT materials and is able to facilitate more independent, flexible learning, and in accordance with the needs of the digital era.
