Abstract

Vocabulary is a fundamental aspect of language proficiency, serving as a critical foundation for communication, comprehension, and academic success. However, many vocational high school students face challenges in mastering English vocabulary due to teaching methods that often overlook individual differences in learning needs and abilities. This study explores the implementation of the "Learning Vocabulary" program, designed as part of a teaching assistance initiative at SMKN 3 Parepare, to improve students' vocabulary mastery through personalized and game-based learning methods. The program integrates weekly vocabulary activities involving nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives, utilizing interactive games such as Word Guessing Game, Memory Match, Scrabble, and Role-Playing. These methods aim to foster student motivation and active engagement while addressing individual needs. Data were collected through vocabulary tests, observations, and interviews, and analyzed descriptively. The results reveal significant improvements in students' vocabulary mastery and motivation, highlighting the effectiveness of games-based learning in creating a fun and interactive learning environment. Challenges, including initial resistance to new methods, were addressed through consistent implementation and student adaptation. This study concludes that the "Learning Vocabulary" program, with its focus on individualized and engaging activities, is an effective model for enhancing vocabulary learning in vocational schools.

Abstract

The Hallo application, a mobile platform designed to enhance speaking skills by enabling users to connect with English speakers worldwide, has recently garnered significant attention among EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. This study aimed to explore EFL students' perceptions of using the Hallo application to improve their speaking performance. The research involved 15 participants from the Foreign Language Academy at Universitas Muslim Indonesia, all of whom were EFL students. A qualitative research approach was adopted, utilizing questionnaires and interviews as the primary data collection methods. The findings indicate that the students generally perceive the Hallo application as an effective tool for improving their speaking, listening, vocabulary, and pronunciation skills. They reported that the platform creates a relaxed, pressure-free environment that fosters language learning, which may contribute to greater engagement and motivation. However, the study also revealed several challenges, including the presence of excessive advertisements and encounters with inappropriate users, which could potentially hinder the overall learning experience. Based on the findings, the EFL students demonstrated a positive attitude toward the Hallo application and recognized its potential for enhancing their English-speaking performance. These results suggest that mobile applications like Hallo could be valuable tools for language learning, particularly in fostering communication practice in authentic contexts. For future research, it would be useful to explore how the integration of such applications can be further optimized to minimize user-related challenges, such as inappropriate interactions and disruptive advertisements. Additionally, investigating the long-term impact of using the Hallo application on speaking proficiency would provide more insights into its effectiveness and potential improvements.

The research employs a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design to measure students' vocabulary comprehension improvement after using both types of flashcards. The sample consists of eighth-grade students divided into two groups, each using either physical or digital flashcards as learning media. The results indicate that digital flashcards are more effective in improving post-test scores compared to physical flashcards. However, based on a questionnaire given to students, most preferred physical flashcards due to their visually engaging appearance and better focus during use. On the other hand, digital flashcards provide advantages in accessibility and audio features that aid pronunciation learning. The study concludes that digital flashcards significantly enhance students' vocabulary mastery, yet student preferences still lean toward physical flashcards. The findings provide insights for educators in selecting appropriate learning media that align with students' needs and preferences to optimize English language teaching effectiveness.

Abstract

Using the Cake application program, this study attempts to ascertain whether class VIII B students at SMPN 2 Kulo have improved their speaking correctness, particularly in their pronunciation. Pre-experimental research using a quantitative design was employed in this study to analyze data. A speaking exam with a pre-, treatment-, and post-test was the tool utilized. All SMPN 2 Kulo pupils made up the population, and class VIII B, which was chosen through selective selection, was the sample. Twelve pupils were enrolled in total. The results of the study demonstrated that students' speaking abilities were significantly impacted by the usage of cake applications to enhance speaking abilities, particularly in the area of pronunciation. This is demonstrated by the fact that students' average speaking accuracy score, particularly in pronunciation, was 66.08 on the pre-test and rose to 80.92 on the post-test. Furthermore, the t-test value (14.791 > 2.144) is greater than the t-table. This indicates that there is a rise in the use of cake applications to enhance pupils' speaking abilities, particularly with regard to pronunciation.

The main problem faced by culinary micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Pattondon Salu Village, Dua Pitue Sub-district, Sidenreng Rappang Regency is the limited ability to promote their products digitally and to utilize social media as a marketing tool. This condition has resulted in low market reach and competitiveness of local culinary products. This community service program aims to enhance the digital promotion capacity of MSME actors through training in content design, business registration on Google Maps, and social media management. The implementation method consisted of several stages, including preliminary observation, interactive training, and continuous mentoring using a participatory approach. The target partners were ten culinary MSME owners actively engaged in producing and selling local food products in Pattondon Salu Village. The results show a significant improvement in participants’ digital content design skills (average increase of 65%), all MSMEs successfully registered on Google Maps, and an average 50% growth in social media visibility and engagement. This program demonstrates that digital-based mentoring can effectively strengthen local product promotion and expand market access for rural MSMEs. Keywords: culinary MSMEs; digital promotion; social media; Google Maps; community empowerment
