Abstract

Hypertension, often referred to as The Silent Killer, is a deadly disease that lacks symptoms to warn its victims. If hypertension is not managed, various causes will arise, including disease complications such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and even death. Therefore, it is necessary to manage hypertension, which can be done through two approaches: pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Pharmacological therapy uses medications within certain limits that can have negative effects on the human body if used for a long time. Whereas non pharmacological therapy is therapy without the use of drugs, such as modifying lifestyle, maintaining a balanced diet, eating fruits and vegetables, and also consuming young coconut water and chia seeds to lower blood pressure. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of consuming young coconut water and chia seeds on lowering blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension in the working area of Bukit Sangkal Health Center in 2024. The research method uses a pre experimental design with a one group pre-post test design. The sample of this study consisted of 32 elderly individuals with high blood pressure. The results obtained show an influence on blood pressure before and after the administration of young coconut water and chia seeds, where the mean systolic blood pressure was 168.91 and after was 148.84, and the mean diastolic blood pressure was 97.44 and after was 82.44. Advice for healthcare workers is to use the results of this study as input and a source of information when counseling hypertension patients, especially the elderly, to use non-pharmacological therapy to lower high blood pressure, by regularly consuming young coconut water and chia seeds, which contain potassium that can stabilize blood pressure.

Abstract

Data WHO menyebutkan prevalensi diabetes tipe 2 dalam 3 dekade terakhir telah meningkat secara dramatis di negara-negara dari semua tingkat pendapatan. Sekitar 422 juta orang di seluruh dunia menderita diabetes. Percepatan naiknya prevalensi penderita diabetes melitus dapat dipicu oleh pola makan yang salah. Edukasi memiliki peranan yang penting dalam penatalaksaan DM, kenapa edukasi DM di tempatkan pada empat pertama, karena dengan melakukan edukasi mengenai diabetes melitus. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh edukasi diet terhadap sikap,pengetahuan dan perilaku pengaturan makan pada lansia penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Sekip Palembang Tahun 2025. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode pra eksperimen dengan pendekatan One Group Pretest Postest. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah semua penderita diabetes mellitus yang ada di Puskesmas Sekip Palembang pada bulan Januari 2025 dengan jumlah sampel sebayak 61 orang yang diambil menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Analisis data menggunakan uji willcoxon. Hasil penelitian didapatkan ada pengaruh edukasi diet terhadap pengetahuan (p.value = 0,000), sikap (p.value = 0,000) dan perilaku (p.value = 0,000) lansia penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Sekip Palembang Tahun 2025.

Abstract

Hipertensi pada lansia merupakan masalah kesehatan yang bersifat kronis, prevalensinya tinggi, serta berisiko menimbulkan komplikasi kardiovaskular serius, sehingga memerlukan strategi pengendalian yang efektif dan aman melalui pendekatan nonfarmakologis. Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan lansia, sehingga mereka dapat mencegah hipertensi dan menjaga kesehatan. Metode pelaksanaan PKM ini dilakukan berdasarkan metode sosialisasi tentang hipertensi, pengecekan tekanan darah sistolik & diastolik dan pemberian Terapi slow deep breathing relaxation dan terapi musik terhadap penurunan tekanan darah pada pasien hipertensi. Setelah lansia/ Masyarakat diberikan terapi slow deep breathing relaxation dan terapi musik terhadap penurunan tekanan darah dengan perbedaan tekanan darah sebelum diberikan dan sesudah diberikan slow deep breathing relaxation dan terapi musik, dimana mean (rata-rata) tekanan darah sistolik sebelum 62.5% dan sesudah 62.5% serta mean (rata-rata) tekanan darah diastolik sebelum 87.5% dan sesudah 62.5% Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian terapi slow deep breathing relaxation dan terapi musik dapat menjadi salah satu cara alternatif untuk menurunkan tekanan darah pada hipertensi.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Hypertension is a major degenerative disease, especially among the elderly, and is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. The World Health Organization defines hypertension as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic ≥90 mmHg. This study aimed to analyze the effect of watermelon juice and cucumber juice on reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Method: This study used a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach. The research was conducted on January 6, 2025, involving 57 hypertensive patients. Respondents were divided into two intervention groups: watermelon juice and cucumber juice. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate statistical tests. Results: After watermelon juice administration, most respondents’ systolic blood pressure shifted from stage 2 hypertension to pre-hypertension (60.7%), and diastolic blood pressure also predominantly reached the pre-hypertension category (82.1%). After cucumber juice administration, systolic blood pressure mostly decreased to pre-hypertension (60.7%), and all respondents’ diastolic blood pressure reached the pre-hypertension category (100%). Watermelon juice significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Cucumber juice also significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (p = 0.000 < 0.05). There was a significant difference between watermelon and cucumber juice in reducing diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.014 < 0.05). Conclusion: Both watermelon juice and cucumber juice effectively reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. However, there is a significant difference between the two interventions in reducing diastolic blood pressure.
