Abstract

The long history of the Catholic Church shows that until after the Second Vatican Council, a priest was seen as an important mediator of God's grace. This article aims to describe the role of the priest in Thomas Aquinas’ Theology of Grace and its relevance for the problematic discourse on priests today. The sacrament of priesthood is a sign of special grace that enables priests to have the authority to offer sacrifices (celebrate the eucharist), forgive sins, bless, teach and sanctify. However, the problems or abuses committed by today’s priests appear to challenge the broad and respected consensus regarding the role of priests that has long been entrenched. The concept of the grace of the sacrament of priesthood continues to be challenged. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The data source in research is the presentation of spoken or written words or sentences sourced from Church documents, books, research results, journal articles and also other written sources that can be accounted for. Based on the research results, it was found that, a priest is a link in creating good relationships, from God to humans and from humans to God. Therefore, amidst the problems of today’s priests, it is necessary to realize that the sacrament of priesthood does not necessarily make a priest holy and free to live without the challenges of the world. The free grace of the sacrament of priesthood requires the active participation of a priest to fulfill the reception of that grace, maintain and distribute it properly. To be able to carry out his duties as a distributor of grace in the world, anywhere, anytime and in any situation, priests must have deep and strong spiritual integrity and manifest faithful obedience to God and His Word.

Abstract

In the Catholic Church, the reality of married life shows that various kinds of crises come and disrupt the lives of married couples during the early stages of catholic post-marriage. The focus of this article is to elaborate crisis during the early stages of Catholic post-marriage and attempts to address the crisis. Therefore, this article reviews the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia from Pope Francis which speaks about Catholic marriage as the guidance for dealing with the crisis. The authors use the method of interview and literature study. In the interview method, the authors interview key informants who talk about problems during the early stages of catholic post-marriage. This study found that crisis during the early stages of catholic post-marriage is characterized by four main reasons, namely the necessity to leave parents, adjustment to one’s partner, the presence and care of children, and the presence of elderly parents. Dealing with these problems, the Church through its family pastoral inspired by the Amoris Laetitia comes to provide spiritual, moral and practical supports to the families in order to face the crises. The Church must be alert in designing programs and activities such as recollections, retreats, group discussions, family visits, and so on which are useful for strengthening family resilience and strengthening their family building and integrity.

Abstract

It should be realized that Indonesian is in a situation of democratic decline. The democracy index in Indonesia continues to decline every year. This decline can be seen from two facts, which are, first, the weakening of civil society criticism in the public sphere, and second, the function of government which tends to deny the legitimacy of opponents because it wants to maintain power. This research aims to examine the relevance of Jean Jacques Rousseau’s “Back to Nature” ideas in the context of democracy in Indonesia. This article used a qualitative-descriptive method with a literature study approach. Based on the research results, it was found that Rousseau’s “Back to Nature” idea was a good guide for the Indonesian citizens in restoring the nation’s democratic spirit. Indonesian democracy must “Back to Nature”. This does not mean that Indonesian citizens have to return to primitive times. “Back to Nature” means returning to the authentic meaning of democracy. This is done by forming a solid pro-democracy alliance or coalition. This alliance movement must be carried out in the political, institutional and social arenas at the same time. Indonesian democracy will return to its original state and popular sovereignty can be re-established if these three elements of this nation can work together to build democracy and repress authoritarianism within the nation’s democratic body.

Abstract

Cyberbullying has become a very crucial problem along with the increasing use of digital media in Indonesia. Its problem generally targets children and teenagers as the most dominant victims. This research attempts to explore the polemic of cyberbullying and offers Immanuel Kant’s moral principles as the main guideline in responding to it. In completing this article, the author used the qualitative-descriptive method with literature studies and interviews. The author first describes the case study of cyberbullying and analyzes that problem. To respond to this phenomenon, the author presents Immanuel Kant’s moral principles and draws their relevance for responding to cyberbullying cases. The research results state that, according to Kant, efforts to combat cyberbullying crimes are a categorical imperative that cannot be rejected by anyone. Cyberbullying can be stopped by strengthening moral principles in humans, which are the principles of universality, humanity, and moral autonomy. These three principles can be implemented into concrete virtues such as the internalization of individual responsibility, the formation of character education appropriate to the contextual digital era, and the implementation of practical moral values in life. These virtues invite people to respect the dignity and autonomy of others, which directly challenges the practice of cyberbullying. By having and doing this, humans are trained to sharpen their moral sensitivity in treating others while being wise and responsible in using existing technological media.

Abstract

: Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) has become an urgent global issue, exacerbated by technological advancements and the widespread use of digital platforms. This study explores the intersection of OGBV and biblical theology by analyzing Mary’s Magnificat as a framework for the Church’s response to digital gender injustices. The study aims to provide a theological perspective on OGBV, highlighting the role of the Church in advocating for digital justice and supporting survivors. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research integrates biblical-theological analysis and literature review. The primary sources include the Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55), theological reflections on gender justice, and reports on OGBV from institutions such as Komnas Perempuan and SAFEnet. The study utilizes thematic analysis to examine how the Magnificat serves as a theological foundation for digital advocacy and ecclesial interventions. The findings indicate that the Magnificat is not merely a hymn of worship but a radical proclamation of justice, aligning with feminist and liberation theology. This study positions the Church as an ethical agent in digital governance, urging its involvement in advocacy, policy engagement, and pastoral care for OGBV survivors. Theologically, the research highlights the Church’s responsibility to challenge oppressive digital structures and promote gender justice in online spaces. This study contributes to digital theology by bridging biblical insights with contemporary discussions on gender-based violence in digital contexts. It also emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between theologians, legal experts, and digital rights advocates to develop faith-based interventions against OGBV. However, further research is needed to expand theological engagement beyond the Magnificat and explore the role of other religious traditions in addressing OGBV.
