Abstract

This research aims to develop an Android-based digital module for Cikeruhan Dance that can enhance students' self-directed learning (SDL) abilities. Cikeruhan Dance, as part of the Sundanese folk dance tradition, has the potential to be used as an interesting and relevant learning material for university students and school pupils, especially in the context of dance education. The research method employed is Research and Development (RD), utilizing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The module development process involves analyzing students' needs for interactive and easily accessible dance learning materials, followed by designing a module that includes History, Movement Structure, Makeup and Costume, as well as video tutorials and quizzes for evaluation. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and literature studies to analyze needs and identify novelties, ensuring that the development aligns with student requirements. Triangulation analysis is then applied to ensure the collection of relevant and balanced data. A limited trial was conducted with dance education students. The results of the small group trial showed an effectiveness of 85.07%, while the large group trial showed an effectiveness of 87.91%. The difference occurred because the large group already had prior knowledge of the material. This module is considered highly valid with an attractive design, communicative language, and visual elements that support learning. The use of the Android-based module facilitates access and increases motivation and independence among students in learning Cikeruhan Dance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the image of Sundanese women as portrayed in the Tari Karawitan Istri (Women’s Karawitan Dance), a choreographic work by R. Sambas Wirakoesoemah in 1925. Tari Karawitan Istri is one of the classical Sundanese dances that has survived to this day, serving as a reflection of cultural values and the image of Sundanese women in its time. A qualitative research paradigm was employed using an ethnokoreological approach, applying stages such as dance structuralization, description, categorization, analysis, textual and contextual synthesis, and interpretation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation to obtain a more accurate understanding of the dance. Textual findings reveal that the choreography of Tari Karawitan Istri consists of sixteen basic movement patterns, two locomotion movements, sixteen pure movements, and three gestures. The movements are characterized by lightness, slowness, and precision, which signify calmness, carefulness, and self control qualities that reflect the ideal character of Sundanese women as gentle and civilized figures. Contextually, this dance illustrates the image of Sundanese women during that era, who embodied refined behavior and upheld politeness as a core cultural value. The dance affirms that Sundanese women are not weak figures, but rather play a central role as educators and preservers of cultural values for future generations.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of using pop-up books in learning the Kukupu dance as an effort to improve dance knowledge in elementary school students. The Kukupu dance, which is part of cultural heritage, requires a deep understanding of movement techniques and the accompanying cultural context. The use of pop-up books as a learning medium was chosen because of its advantages in presenting information visually and interactively, making it easier for students to understand complex concepts. The research methodology involved designing pop-up books that integrate key elements of the Kukupu dance, such as movements, costumes, and cultural background, and implementing them in classroom learning activities. The research subjects consisted of fourth and fifth grade elementary school students, with the evaluation process carried out through observation, interviews, and knowledge tests before and after the media application. The analysis results showed that the use of pop-up books significantly improved students' dance knowledge, with a clear increase in understanding of movement techniques, costumes, and the cultural context of the Kukupu dance. These findings confirm the potential of pop-up books as an effective tool in dance learning, offering an innovative alternative to increase student engagement and understanding at the elementary school level.

Abstract

The development of Augmented Reality technology offers new opportunities in education by providing visual, interactive, and exploratory learning experiences, particularly in dance learning that requires strong visual comprehension. This study aims to develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of an AR-based dance-teaching module to increase elementary students’ interest in learning. Grounded in a pragmatic paradigm, the research employed a mixed-methods approach using the Design and Development method. Participants included AR experts, dance teachers, and 20 fifth-grade students from Cendekia Leadership School Bandung. Data were collected through interviews, observations, expert validation, tests, and questionnaires, while learning interest was analyzed using the SAFARI indicators: pleasure, interest, attention, and active involvement. Statistical analysis included normality testing, paired-samples t-tests, and N-Gain calculations. Results showed the module was rated “Very Feasible” by experts with a mean score of 90.97%. Field testing indicated significant improvement in student scores from a pre-test mean of 60.15 to a post-test mean of 80.45, with a significant difference (p 0.001) and a high N-Gain of 0.81. Questionnaire findings revealed students’ learning interest reached a Very High level (92.19%). Therefore, the AR-based module effectively enhances learning interest through interactive, visually engaging dance instruction for elementary learners.

Abstract

The quality of the implementation of dance studios as non-formal educational institutions can be measured through the quality of program execution and the management systems applied. Dance studios function not only as spaces for arts education but also as culture-based business units that require quality control to ensure the achievement of performance targets, service quality, and business objectives. However, preliminary studies indicate that most dance studios in Indonesia have not yet implemented standardized and modern management systems. This study aims to describe the development of a web-based application, Quality Index version 1.0, as an instrument for standardizing business processes and controlling the quality of dance studio management in Indonesia. The research employs a development research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing the design, functions, and initial implementation of the Quality Index application version 1.0. The results show that the application can present a database of dance studios based on established quality standards and facilitate the direct collection of management data through on-site assessments. The application serves as a systematic, measurable quality control tool. It is concluded that the Edumatriks Quality Index version 1.0 has the potential to serve as a standard quality parameter for dance studio management. This research contributes to the development of technology-based evaluation and management models in community dance arts education.
