The development of the Arabic language curriculum in Indonesia is increasingly complex. This is based on the increasing need for Arabic language skills in the international world. These basic needs are not only based on the ability to understand and read Islamic sources, but Arabic as an international language of communication is one of the demands of global skills. On that basis, this study aims to explore the design of learning Arabic based on the Merdeka Curriculum at the senior high school level using achievement indicators in the Merdeka Curriculum. The research technique is qualitative approach with data analysis based on content analysis. Data were obtained through literature study from the Merdeka Curriculum and other written sources such as books, articles and curriculum guideline. The results of the study indicate that the learning design based on PjBL (Project Based Learning) can implement the Merdeka Curriculum at the senior high school level. So, the demands of the 6 newest skills such as listening, speaking, viewing (memirsa), reading, writing and presenting can be organized in student projects. The research findings corroborate that the Arabic language learning system uses an Merdeka Curriculum to identify learning outcomes based on cognitive, affective and psychomotor competencies. The implications of this study identify that Arabic language learning needs to be practiced through various intensive assignment projects.

Abstract

Productive language skills are an indicator of student success in using foreign languages. The lack of media allows students to interact with native speakers. It encourages researchers to analyze holistically how to use the HelloTalk application as an alternative media for increasing writing skills. This study used a qualitative descriptive research design—data collection techniques through observation, interview, and documentation. The data collection tools are based on pre-test and post-test scores, observation sheets, and a list of questions from interviews. The analysis technique used is Milles Huberman's theory. The results show that the HelloTalk application can provide opportunities for students to increase creativity and critical thinking. The ability students' showed an increase in score to 75.3. This result is indicated by using chat themes in broader writing skills and interaction with native speakers to explore information on the language being learned. In addition, the process of correcting writing errors can be corrected immediately. The findings of this research indicate that using the HelloTalk application increases the intensity of Arabic writing skills. This study recommends further research to test the effectiveness of the HelloTalk application against other foreign language skills with more varied research methods.

Abstract

Language teaching has evolved over the decades, driven by advancements in educational theories and the growing need for learners to communicate effectively in a globalized world. Curricular practices in language education have shifted from traditional grammar-based approaches to more communicative and task-oriented models. However, the implementation of these curricula varies across different contexts, raising questions about their effectiveness and adaptability. This comprehensive literature review aims to analyze the current trends, challenges, and best practices in language teaching and curriculum design. By synthesizing findings from empirical studies, the review examines how various curricular approaches impact language proficiency, learner engagement, and teaching methodologies. The study also explores the role of institutional support and teacher training in facilitating successful language education reforms. The review finds that communicative and task-based curricula significantly improve language proficiency and learner motivation. However, successful implementation requires adequate teacher preparation, appropriate resource allocation, and flexibility in curriculum design. Additionally, challenges such as cultural differences, institutional rigidity, and assessment practices can hinder the effectiveness of innovative curricular models. In conclusion, while communicative and task-based approaches show promise, their success is highly context-dependent. Future research should focus on developing adaptable curriculum models that accommodate diverse educational settings and explore long-term outcomes of these approaches.

Abstract

Arabic writing skills in higher education are a forum for increasing student creativity. Through the media of posters and descriptions of cultural texts, students can develop their imagination in written form. However, there is a need for a TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) learning model as a systematic flow in implementing learning Arabic writing skills. On that basis, this research aims to analyze TPACK-based learning practices through multicultural texts with poster media. This research used a mixed-method design with research subjects of 122 fifth-semester Arabic Language Education study program students at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang—data collection techniques through tests, observation, interviews, and documentation with a mixed-method based analysis. The research results reveal that learning writing skills using multicultural texts and poster media can improve students' ability to write Arabic, which is characterized by the diversity of phrases, sentences, and paragraphs through descriptions of the culture found in Indonesia. This research recommends further research to analyze the forms of phrases that develop among students.
