Abstract

This research explores the potential of a sustainable fisheries sector in Sukamara Regency, Central Kalimantan, which is rich in fisheries resources, both freshwater and marine. This study identified the potential for freshwater fish production of 10,000 tons annually and marine fish of 8,000 tons yearly, with superior species such as snakehead fish, baung, catfish, snapper, grouper, and tuna. Although the fishing sector has an essential role in the local economy, unsustainable fishing practices have led to overfishing, environmental degradation, infrastructure problems, and limited technological knowledge. This research emphasizes the importance of sustainable fisheries practices through ecosystem-based management, the use of environmentally friendly technology, and education and training programs to increase the capacity of fishermen. The economic impact shows an increase in the average income of fishermen by 25%, while the social impact includes an increase in the welfare of coastal communities by 20%. Environmental impacts include the restoration of mangrove and coral reef ecosystems with increased area and cover of live coral. The main challenges include overfishing, environmental degradation, lack of infrastructure, and limited technological knowledge. Proposed strategies to overcome these challenges include strengthening policies and regulations, improving infrastructure, education and training, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and research and development. By implementing this strategy, the potential of the sustainable fisheries sector in Sukamara can be optimized, providing significant economic, social, and environmental benefits and becoming a model for other regions in sustainable natural resource management.

Abstract

Abstract

The partner in this community service program is the Sangalang Hapakat Farmers Group located in Tanjung Sangalang Village, Kahayan Tengah District, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan. The current problem is the post-harvest processing of oyster mushrooms which is still carried out conventionally. Currently, the oyster mushroom chips production process is carried out using a frying pan so the product quality is not good and does not last long. In addition, the frying process also requires a lot of cooking oil consumption. The solution to this problem is to apply Vacuum Frying technology to the frying process and before packaging. This technology is an oil-saving frying system and the product results are tastier, so that the resulting product can last a long time (last up to 1 month). The method used in this community service uses the method of observing obstacles, solving problems, and analyzing needs as a follow-up to solving problems, then mentoring training on tools and testing the feasibility of tools, use, and maintenance of tools for Partners, as well as mentoring on packaging and product marketing.

Abstract

The Food Estate program was initiated to support national food security by enhancing food production on peatlands. However, its implementation faces various challenges, including difficult land conditions and the need for adequate infrastructure. This study aims to identify key factors influencing the sustainability of the Food Estate program in Central Kalimantan, particularly in the Kapuas and Pulang Pisau districts. This study employs the MICMAC method (Matrix of Crossed Impact Multiplications Applied to a Classification) to analyze the impact of strategic variables, such as government policy, infrastructure, institutional support, and local economy. The findings indicate that government policy and infrastructure support are dominant factors affecting the program's success, while variables like local economy and farmers’ income heavily depend on these factors. Recommendations include the need for sustainable policy enhancement, development of supporting infrastructure, improved market access, and adaptive technology training for farmers. With optimal implementation, the Food Estate program is expected to not only enhance national food security but also foster economic growth and improve the welfare of local communities in Central Kalimantan.
