Abstract

The development of a culture of tolerance and peace at Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School is an important foundation in the life of the Indonesian nation and state based on Pancasila. Al-Zaytun, which has been established for 25 years, is committed to becoming an educational center that promotes tolerance and peace, by combining Indonesian traditions with modern education. This research aims to determine the culture of tolerance and peace in Al-Zaytun as the basis for national and state life based on Pancasila. The research method used is literature study, using an analytical description approach. The results show that Al-Zaytun is committed to developing student characters that reflect the values of Pancasila, by combining traditional and modern principles. In addition, education at Al-Zaytun also emphasizes the importance of tolerance, social justice, and national spirit, in line with national education goals. Thus, Al-Zaytun plays an important role in developing a culture of tolerance and peace and strengthening the values of Pancasila in society. Keywords: Tolerance, Peace, Pancasila, Ma'had Al-Zaytun

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools have long been known as educational institutions that not only teach religious knowledge, but also play an important role in forming character and a culture of tolerance and peace among their students. This research aims to explore how the leader of the Ma'had Al-Zaytun Islamic boarding school influences the formation of the character of tolerance and peace. This research uses qualitative methods with an empirical normative approach. Secondary data sources used include the book Al-Zaytun Sumber Inspirasi (ASI), Al-Zaytun magazine, Syaykh Al-Zaytun's sermons, and the work of DR. Al-Ustadz (Hon. M.S.U.) A.S. Panji Gumilang, M.P. associated with a culture of tolerance and peace. They do this through direct learning, interactive dialogue, and social activities involving students from various social and religious backgrounds. The results of the research show that the construction of tolerance thought built by Islamic boarding school leaders is inclusive, believes in the existence of truth in other religious beliefs, and is based on tasamuh, namely a moderate style of understanding of Islam. The implementation of the concept of tolerance is reflected in the curriculum and policies of Islamic boarding schools which prioritize multiculturalism and pluralism education. This research provides new insights into the strategic role of Islamic boarding schools in developing a culture of tolerance and peace, which is very relevant in the current era of globalization. Abstract

In the era of globalization, the diversity of society is becoming increasingly complex, presenting a significant challenge in building social harmony and stability. Culture and tolerance play a crucial role in managing this diversity. Ma'had Al-Zaytun, as an Islamic educational institution in Indonesia, holds a strategic role in shaping culture and tolerance within the community at Ma'had Al-Zaytun. The aim of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the strategies and approaches employed by Ma'had Al-Zaytun in fostering culture and tolerance in promoting diversity within the community at Ma'had Al-Zaytun. This research employs a literature review method to collect data from various relevant sources regarding the development of culture and tolerance in fostering community diversity at Ma'had Al-Zaytun. The results show that Ma'had Al-Zaytun has successfully developed culture and tolerance through intercultural training programs, interfaith discussions, and the teaching of tolerance values, which have enhanced understanding and tolerance attitudes among all members of the academic community. Tolerance education is applied in daily life through student exchange programs and religious celebration events. Close collaboration and regular evaluation are necessary to strengthen these programs and ensure that tolerance values remain integrated. This success serves as a model for other educational institutions in building a harmonious and open society in line with the spirit of Indonesia's diversity. Abstract

Currently, numerous issues related to morality, values, and character among the younger generation are prevalent in society. This phenomenon is caused by the decline in noble national values and the erosion of nationalism and patriotism within the community. The Indonesian national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," is one means of shaping a country's national identity and serves as an expression of nationalism and patriotism. This study aims to examine the role of Ma’had Al-Zaytun in implementing the "Indonesia Raya" anthem according to Law No. 20 of 2003 and the principles of Maqashid Syariah. This research employs a literature study with a juridical-normative legal approach. Primary data sources include Law No. 20 of 2003 and the book Maqashid Syariah: Concepts, Principles, and Applications in Social Life by Fadil Salim, while secondary data sources comprise books, journals, documents, and regulations. The study discusses the role of Ma’had Al-Zaytun in implementing the "Indonesia Raya" anthem in accordance with the National Education Law No. 20 of 2003 and the principles of Maqashid Syariah. The anthem is sung daily by the Ma’had Al-Zaytun community to instill a love for the country, national pride, and unity. Additionally, on national holidays, Ma’had Al-Zaytun invites interfaith leaders to share insights on social, educational, and cultural issues to contribute to national progress. This implementation aligns with Maqashid Syariah, as Ma’had Al-Zaytun emphasizes the preservation of students' intellect and soul through a healthy lifestyle, counseling, prayer, reflection, and cognitive learning, which includes critical thinking skills and technology use in education. These initiatives aim to maintain the physical, mental, and intellectual well-being of students and develop productive and meaningful character, in accordance with Islamic teachings and national values embedded in the "Indonesia Raya" anthem. Abstract

Education is an important investment for countries, especially developing countries like Indonesia. Law no. 14 of 2005 describes the qualifications, competencies and ethical standards required for educators. Although professionalism among educators is essential, many lack an understanding of effective teaching strategies and methodologies, highlighting gaps in the education system that need to be addressed to improve the quality of teaching. This research examines teacher qualifications at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun, with a focus on the implications of Law Number 14 of 2005 and Siyasah Dusturiyah. Using qualitative research methods, researchers conducted field research, using techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation to gather insights from experts and individuals directly involved in the educational context. Analysis of teacher qualifications at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun shows that teacher qualifications are in accordance with Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning teachers and lecturers. Teachers have strong personality competencies, demonstrating not only pedagogical knowledge and skills but also high moral values. Key traits include exemplary behavior, professionalism, patience, and empathy, highlighting the overall quality of educators at Ma'had Al-Zaytun. Abstract

The motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (Unity in Diversity) reflects the effort to maintain unity in diversity, but achieving harmony is not easy. Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, yet intolerance persists. The principle of tolerance in Islam is rooted in equality, justice, and mutual respect. Syaykh Al-Zaytun promotes tolerance at Ma’had Al-Zaytun, aiming to be a center of education for tolerance and peace. The objectives of this research are to examine the perspective of Islamic law in the implementation of religious tolerance at Ma’had Al-Zaytun and to review Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution in the implementation of religious tolerance at Ma’had Al-Zaytun. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach. Primary data sources were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, and the book Al-Zaytun Sumber Inspirasi by Robin Simanullang. Secondary data sources include Hukum Islam by Sofyan Hasan, Tafsir Al Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab, and Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution. The results of this study indicate that Ma’had Al-Zaytun implements the principles of Maqasid Syariah, especially in protecting religion (hifdzuddin), by providing religious education that is open and tolerant towards various Islamic schools of thought and other religions. Ma’had Al-Zaytun also welcomes visits from non-Muslim guests, reflecting a commitment to interfaith cooperation and strengthening religious harmony. According to Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution, Ma’had Al-Zaytun guarantees freedom of religion, equality before the law, and encourages interfaith interactions. Ma’had Al-Zaytun plays a significant role in fostering openness, tolerance, and harmony among religious communities in society. Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) in Indonesia, especially in the field of education, has shown significant development over the past 10 years. HDI in education is measured through indicators such as average years of schooling, expected years of schooling, and literacy rate. The purpose of this research is to review Ma'had Al-Zaytun in Improving Human Development Index Based on Indramayu Regency Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2015 and Siyasah Dusturiyah. The author uses a library research method with a legal research approach conducted in a normative juridical manner. The data sources used are primary data sources, namely Indramayu Regency Regional Regulation Number 8 of Indramayu Regency Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2015, the book of Legal Science in the knot of Siyasah Dusturiyah Reflections on the theory and practice of Constitutional Law in Indonesia by Ali Akbar Abaib Mas Rabbani Lubis, M..H, and the book Al-Zaytun Source of Inspiration by Drs. Ch. Robin Simanullang, and secondary data sources, namely, books, journals, documents, and so on. The result of this research is Ma'had Al-Zaytun Review in Human Development Index Improvement Based on Indramayu Regency Regional Regulation Number 8 Year 2015 By paying attention to health needs, economic welfare, and religious values, Al-Zaytun supports the formation of strong, disciplined, and responsible characters in students. The commitment to a decent standard of living, health, and the integration of religious education ensures that students not only acquire academic knowledge, but also moral and social capabilities that are useful for personal life and positive contributions to the wider community and Ma'had Al-Zaytu Review in improving Human development Index based on Siyasah Dusturiyah plays an important role in improving the Human Development Index (HDI) in its region by meeting basic needs and empowering its community. Through the synergy between education, health, and economy, Al-Zaytun makes a real contribution to sustainable welfare, proving its dedication in creating a prosperous society. Abstract

Ma'had Al-Zaytun plays an active role in environmental management by applying sustainability principles, such as conservation and efficient utilization of natural resources. The institution manages land for agriculture, livestock, and forestry in an environmentally friendly way, as well as including environmental education in its curriculum to raise santri's awareness of the importance of nature conservation. This research aims to analyze the role of Ma'had Al-Zaytun in environmental management, both from the perspective of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management and the perspective of Fiqh Siyasah. The author uses a normative juridical approach by analyzing primary data sources, namely Law 32/2009 and the book Fiqh Siyasah by Prof. H.A. Djazuli, as well as secondary sources such as related books and articles.The results show that Ma'had Al-Zaytun implements the principles of Law 32/2009 by turning arid land into productive green areas, through tree planting and efficient water management technology. From the perspective of Fiqh Siyasah, Ma'had Al-Zaytun applies the principle of “Amana” (moral responsibility) in natural resource management and the principle of “Maslahah” (public interest) to ensure environmental policies provide equitable benefits for the institution and the surrounding community. By integrating environmental education into its curriculum, Ma'had Al-Zaytun not only maintains ecological balance, but also teaches the importance of environmental conservation in accordance with Islamic teachings. Abstract

Implementasi adalah proses pengujian dan penerapan sistem yang menghubungkan ide dengan realisasinya. Hukum di Indonesia dibentuk berdasarkan nilai masyarakat dan diterapkan melalui peraturan tertulis maupun tidak tertulis. Pembinaan kesiswaan fokus pada pengembangan potensi akademik dan karakter siswa. Fiqh Siyasah membahas hukum Islam dalam pemerintahan, sesuai syari'at. Ma’had Al-Zaytun dan Asrama Pelajar Al-Fajr mengintegrasikan pendidikan menyeluruh untuk pengembangan karakter dan pembelajaran santri. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis implementasi pedoman kehidupan santri di Asrama Al-Fajr Ma’had Al-Zaytun berdasarkan Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional Nomor 39 Tahun 2008 dan Siyasah Dusturiyyah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan data primer yang diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan verifikasi di Asrama Al-Fajr Ma’had Al-Zaytun. Data sekunder mencakup pedoman kehidupan santri, peraturan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional No. 39 Tahun 2008 tentang pembinaan kesiswaan, dan Fiqh Siyasah (siyasah dusturiyyah). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pedoman kehidupan santri di Asrama Al-Fajr Ma’had Al-Zaytun telah sesuai dengan Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional No. 39 Tahun 2008, yang menekankan pentingnya pembentukan karakter, integritas, kedisiplinan, serta pengembangan potensi diri dan nilai-nilai agama. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan Siyasah Dusturiyyah, pedoman ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat akidah, akhlak, ibadah, dan muamalah santri sesuai dengan syariat, guna mencetak generasi yang unggul baik secara intelektual maupun religius, serta memberikan kontribusi positif dalam bidang sosial, ekonomi, dan politik. Abstract

Tolerance is an attitude of respecting differences in beliefs, cultures, and traditions, which serves as an essential foundation for fostering social harmony and religious coexistence. Indonesia, as a nation rich in ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity, regards tolerance as vital to maintaining unity and preventing interfaith conflicts. This study aims to understand and explain the significance of tolerance in fostering interfaith harmony within diverse societies, particularly in Indonesia. The research method employed is a literature review using a descriptive analytical approach. The findings reveal that tolerance involves not only passive acceptance of differences but also active interaction that supports harmonious relationships. Education plays a crucial role in instilling the values of tolerance from an early age, as exemplified by Al-Zaytun through its approach of role modeling and habituation. However, the challenges of intolerance, often driven by prejudice and a lack of understanding, must be addressed through dialogue, collaboration, and the reinforcement of universal human values. Thus, tolerance serves as a cornerstone for building peace and social stability in pluralistic societies while strengthening unity in diversity. Keywords: Diversity, Tolerance, Ma’had Al-Zaytun, Peace
