Abstract

This research was conducted to explore the implications of work flexibility for precariat workers in Makassar City. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach and used a case study type of research on workers in the PKWT form or popularly known as contracts and outsourcing. The research location is in the Parangloe and KIMA Warehousing Areas. The method of determining informants was carried out by purposive sampling, so that there were 8 informants consisting of 4 outsourcing workers, 3 contract workers, and one HR worker from an outsourcing vendor. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews as the main method, in addition to observation and document collection which were considered important as secondary methods. The results of this study illustrate that there are several implications for implementing work flexibility for informants. First, the issue of job security is a priority for workers because there are a large group of reserve workers who are ready to replace them, forcing them to maintain their jobs even with a high workload but low wages. This also has implications for companies that find it easier to lay off workers and provide low wages to workers. The second implication is that workers are more likely to move between companies and jobs due to work flexibility. Frequent transfers also result in vulnerability due to uncertain wages and uncertainty about the continuity of work.

Abstract

Abstract

The activity of providing gender education socialization to students of the Hidayatussibyan NW Sengkerang Islamic Boarding School Foundation is a form of community service implementation targeting students of the Hidayatussibyan NW Sengkerang Islamic Boarding School. Community service in the form of socialization is intended to provide knowledge and awareness building about gender issues such as awareness of gender equality and gender violence. This socialization is expected to raise students' awareness of gender concepts and stereotypes that are developing in society. Based on the results of the community service team's analysis, there are still many students who consider the gender inequality they see in everyday life to be something normal and are not critical of it. The internalization of the values they have received since childhood in their families and the surrounding environment, especially about gender inequality, they consider it commonplace and accept it for granted. This community service is carried out using a direct socialization method and added Focus Group Discussion to find the core of the existing problem. The results of the community service activities are measured through several questions in the form of pre-tests and post-tests, the results of which show an increase and awareness that is starting to build from regarding the students' concept of gender, gender equality, and gender violence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of employment status normalization among precarious workers in the Makassar Industrial Zone. The research focuses specifically on workers employed under contract and outsourcing agreements. A qualitative approach was employed, with in-depth interviews as the primary method of data collection. Additionally, observations were conducted to gain a clearer picture of the working conditions experienced by the informants. Secondary data from various documents were also gathered to enrich the understanding of worker vulnerability and the status normalization process. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, involving five individuals: four workers and one representative from an outsourcing agency management. The findings reveal two common patterns in the normalization process. First, permanent workers are reassigned as contract workers under the justification of corporate efficiency and crisis. Second, contract workers are reclassified as outsourced workers. Rather than being a result of internal company issues, status normalization reflects the precarious workers’ inability to secure their employment status and protect their labor rights. Keywords: Employment Status Normalization, Precarious Workers, Labor Market Flexibility.

Abstract

Sexual violence in higher education institutions has become a critical concern, particularly in Mataram City, where several cases have been reported in recent years. Unequal power relations within academic settings often position students, especially women, as vulnerable targets of such violence. In response to this issue, a community service team organized an educational program on Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence, targeting members and leaders of student organizations across three universities in Mataram. The program was conducted on March 3, 4, and 6, 2025, involving a total of 203 participants. The intervention was implemented in three stages. The first stage involved conducting a pre-test and initial observation, which revealed a generally low level of awareness and knowledge among participants regarding sexual violence. The second stage comprised educational sessions designed based on the pre-test results, including both direct instruction and the dissemination of posters containing QR codes that provided access to educational materials and regulatory documents. The final stage involved administering a post-test to evaluate knowledge improvement and awareness development. The evaluation results demonstrated a significant increase in participants' understanding of sexual violence issues and their awareness of the importance of active involvement in prevention and response efforts. This activity contributed meaningfully to fostering a campus culture that is safe, just, and free from sexual violence.

Abstract

This study examines the role of village institutions in improving the welfare of tobacco farmers in Ganti Village, Central Lombok. Tobacco is a strategic commodity that supports the rural economy, but it still faces structural inequalities in distribution, market access, and the dominance of middlemen.Using a qualitative approach, this study describes the dynamics of village institutions such as farmer groups, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and the role of customary institutions in intervening in the local economy. The findings indicate that village institutions have the potential to act as facilitators, protectors, and liaisons between farmers, markets, and the government. However, institutional challenges such as weak capacity, conflicts of interest, and structural oligarchization also remain obstacles. Therefore, strengthening village institutions in a democratic and participatory manner is key to creating a just, transparent, and sustainable agrarian system. This study concludes that adaptive local institutional-based development is a crucial foundation for the economic independence of tobacco farmers in Central Lombok.
