Abstract

Implementing the Independent Curriculum in Indonesia presents challenges in educational assessment, especially in efficiently evaluating students' essay responses. This study aims to develop and test an educational evaluation model based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, especially the vision language model, which can automate and improve the process of assessing student learning outcomes in science. This study explores the potential of Vision Language Models (VLMs) as an innovative solution. This study uses a mixed sequential explanatory method. The subjects in this study were junior high school students. The data collection method used interviews. Data collection instruments with questionnaires. Data analysis techniques used were qualitative, quantitative, descriptive analysis, and inferential statistics. The study results are that integrating VLMs increases the efficiency and objectivity of assessment. This study concludes that VLMs can reduce teacher workload, improve feedback, and show synergy between technology and curriculum reform in the Independent Curriculum era. The implications of this study are very significant for the development of science and technology education; the use of vision language models (Vision-Language Models) in evaluating science education can increase the accuracy and objectivity in assessing student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: This study addresses the challenges of limited student participation and ineffective group learning in Information Systems Analysis & Design education. The objective was to develop, validate, and test a seven-syntax flipped classroom model integrated with cooperative learning. The study employed Borg and Gall's R&D methodology with 60 students in experimental and control groups at Universitas Ekasakti. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for validity and practicality, and independent t-tests for effectiveness. The results demonstrated exceptional model validity (≥88%), high practicality from instructors (≥85%) and students (≥86%), and significant effectiveness. The experimental group showed superior cognitive (85.2 vs. 75.1), affective (collaboration and responsibility), and psychomotor outcomes (88.5 vs. 78.2) compared to the control group. In conclusion, the validated seven-syntax model successfully improves student participation and learning outcomes by balancing asynchronous learning with synchronous collaboration, providing a valuable framework for technology education.

Abstract

This study explores the application of Vision Language Models (VLMs) in evaluating student work, focusing on their potential to enhance efficiency and objectivity in assessment processes. VLMs, integrating natural language processing and computer vision, offer a novel approach to analyzing student responses, particularly in assignments involving visual elements. This paper outlines the functionality of VLMs, discusses their advantages and limitations, and provides practical guidance on their implementation. It also includes examples of prompt engineering and showcases initial results from a pilot study conducted at SMP N 32 Padang, demonstrating the potential of VLMs in a real-world educational setting. This method allows teacher to asses written text by the students on assignments that are also presented in written or image format. The use of VLM is expected to further develop efficiency and precision in student assessment.

Abstract

Education plays a vital role in cultivating qualified future generations, with active student participation serving as an indicator of effective learning processes. Preliminary observations at SMP Negeri 32 Padang revealed low engagement levels in science classes, prompting the need for interventions to boost students' involvement. The primary objective of this classroom action research was to enhance student engagement in science learning activities through implementing the Discovery Learning model and Teaching at the Right Level approach in a Grade 8 classroom at SMP Negeri 32 Padang. The study was conducted over three cycles, each consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting phases. Data on student engagement in science learning activities was collected through observations using a rubric. The initial data in Cycle I revealed low engagement at 36.72%. After implementing interventions integrating Discovery Learning activities and personalized scaffolding based on students' ability levels in Cycles II and III, student engagement progressively increased to 45.76% and 62.28% respectively. Surveys and interviews indicated students found the learner-centered, inquiry-based activities more enjoyable and effective for understanding compared to traditional instruction. The findings demonstrate the potential of combining Discovery Learning and Teaching at the Right Level methods to significantly improve learning participation by stimulating intrinsic motivation through autonomous exploration while providing individualized support. The research offers practical strategies for enhancing science education engagement and contributes to the Kurikulum Merdeka goals of fostering participatory, flexible learning environments tailored to students' unique needs
