Abstract

Basic iron and steel (ISIC 24101) is one of the important commodities in the development process in Indonesia and its use in the construction sector reaches more than 75 percent. However, Indonesia still imports to fulfill domestic consumption. The production process is suspected to be inefficient. The purpose of this study is to identify the presence or absence of technical inefficiency in the basic iron and steel production process and its determinants using secondary data from the results of the 2017 Annual Survey of Manufacturing Industry Companies with the unit of analysis being large companies, and the Stochastic Frontier Analysis approach. The results show that the production process of basic iron and steel in Indonesia is not yet efficient. The majority of large companies have a medium level of efficiency. Companies that operate for a full year tend to be inefficient in their production process activities. On the other hand, large companies will also tend to be inefficient in their production process if they do not carry out R&D activities and do not innovate their products.

Abstract

The standard values of quality and quantity of living needs continue to increase over time, leading to competition in the utilization of agricultural and non-agricultural land. This results in uncontrolled land use conversion. Land use changes in Gunungkidul between the 1940s and 1970s caused widespread deforestation, making the area barren. Conservation efforts up to the early 2000s yielded positive results. However, population growth and the expansion of activity centers in Gunungkidul during the 2000s may trigger further deforestation. This study analyzes spatiotemporal land use changes in Gunungkidul Regency over the period 2015–2023. Land use data were obtained from Landsat and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and analyzed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and accuracy assessment through ground checks. The results show significant land use changes, particularly the conversion of vegetation into built-up areas, with an increase/decrease in area from 2015 to 2023 of 72.65%. The most significant changes occurred in Wates District, the administrative center of Gunungkidul Regency, forming a pattern concentrated around service centers and spreading linearly along access routes to these centers. Land changes were also observed in the northern and southern regions with a scattered pattern. These changes are driven by population growth and regional development in Gunungkidul Regency. Land use changes may lead to land degradation, highlighting the importance of this study in providing crucial information for better spatial planning and land management in the future.

Abstract

Battery waste contains hazardous materials that can damage the environment if not properly treated. One innovative solution for managing this waste is the synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO), known for its strong antimicrobial properties. Additionally, Apium graveolens L. extract is recognized for its significant antibacterial activity. This study aims to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles from battery waste and evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing the antimicrobial activity of Apium graveolens L. extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis. ZnO was synthesized using the coprecipitation method from Zn-C battery waste, and Apium graveolens L. extract was obtained through maceration. The ZnO characterization was conducted using XRD and FTIR, and antimicrobial tests were performed against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The results showed that the synthesized ZnO nanoparticles had an average crystallite size of 41.611 nm with high crystallinity. When combined with Apium graveolens L. extract, the crystallite size became smaller, at 16.881 nm. Antimicrobial tests revealed that ZnO effectively inhibited the growth of S. epidermidis with an inhibition zone of 16 mm, while the combination of ZnO with Apium graveolens L. extract did not show antimicrobial activity. Thus, ZnO synthesized from battery waste is proven to be effective as an antimicrobial agent against S. epidermidis. This synthesis method is also environmentally friendly and has broad application potential.

Abstract

Pembelajaran fisika di sekolah menengah harus mampu membentuk kemampuan berpikir ilmiah (pola berpikir) dan keterampilan melakukan eksperimen sains siswa, namun tantangan berupa rendahnya pemahaman konsep eksperimental dan keterbatasan variasi media ajar masih sering dihadapi. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran fisika di SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali melalui dua pendekatan utama: (1) penguatan keterampilan eksperimen sains siswa berbasis inkuiri dan (2) pemberdayaan guru dalam pembuatan Learning Management System (LMS) berbasis Kurikulum Merdeka. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi pelatihan intensif pembuatan LMS menggunakan platform Moodle/Google Classroom bagi guru mitra, serta kegiatan asistensi mengajar berupa praktikum terbimbing bagi siswa yang melibatkan pretest dan posttest. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan eksperimen siswa dengan nilai Normalized Gain (N-gain) sebesar 0.72 (kategori tinggi), serta peningkatan literasi teknologi guru dalam memproduksi modul digital dan video eksperimen yang menarik. Program ini terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan ekosistem pembelajaran fisika yang kolaboratif, kontekstual, dan berorientasi pada peningkatan pola berpikir ilmiah siswa serta mendukung implementasi kurikulum secara berkelanjutan.
