Abstract

A series of hydraulic stimulations were conducted to enhance permeability and increase the production of hot fluid in a Hot Dry Rock (HDR) geothermal field. The stimulation involved injecting water into the hot rock, inducing hydraulic fracturing and resulting in over 2000 micro-earthquake events within the field. Utilizing existing microearthquake data, an analysis of the microearthquake distribution was performed, along with calculating the gradient of the frequency-magnitude distribution of microearthquakes (b-value) to assess the heterogeneity conditions induced by high pore pressure. The hypocenter distribution is centered around injection and production locations, displaying a trend that aligns with the main structure trending southwest to northeast. The mapping of b-values indicates elevated values in the hydraulic stimulation area, believed to be associated with increased pore pressure resulting from the higher fluid volume in that region. Moreover, high b-values were identified beneath the production area, suggesting the potential migration of injection fluid from the hydraulic stimulation process.

Abstract

The emergence of hot spring manifestations in Biatan Bapinang, East Kalimantan, is intriguing due to its location, far from active volcanic and tectonic regions. This study aims to investigate possible causes and characteristics of this geothermal system using geological analysis and Bouguer anomaly distribution. Regional geological data and a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) were used to examine rock formations and potential structures that could serve as pathways for hot fluid migration. Bouguer anomaly distribution provided insights into density variations associated with basement depth. Findings indicate that the Biatan Bapinang hot spring manifestation lies at the boundary between a sedimentary basin and a basement uplift. The fluid likely originates from the sedimentary basin, with basement uplift potentially enhancing heat flow that warms subsurface water. Lithological boundaries and possible subsurface structures create preferential pathways for hot fluids to reach the surface. This study suggests that the Biatan Bapinang geothermal system is a non-volcanic, intraplate basin-type system, with a probable heat source from terrestrial heat flow concentrated by the basement uplift and local geological configuration. This research opens opportunities for further studies on geothermal potential in non-volcanic regions, especially in the Biatan area.

Abstract

Mount Raung is one of the active volcanic mountains which have geothermal potential. To investigates the Mount Raung geothermal prospect area in East Java, Indonesia, we use remote sensing method with Landsat-8 and Sentinel-1A data. The analysis focuses on identifying eruption centers, mapping volcanic products, assessing vegetation stress, and delineating lineament structures to provide an initial overview of the prospect zone in the area. Remote sensing methods were applied through image processing techniques including NDVI analysis, optical band composites, and radar-based structural mapping. The results indicate that Mount Raung has a large, dry caldera with multiple eruption centers and significant volcanic deposits. Several areas showed vegetation stress, potentially linked to surface geothermal manifestations. Structural analysis using SAR data revealed high lineament density, especially in the southwestern and southern regions of Mount Raung, which also coincide with vegetation stress zones. These areas are considered to have high geothermal potential due to favorable permeability conditions. The integration of optical and radar data expected to be an effective approach in the preliminary exploration of geothermal resources.

Abstract

Groundwater is a basic human need. However, the residents of Perumahan Gang Jati Baru, Hajimena, Natar face significant challenges in meeting their water demands, particularly during the dry season when water availability is critically reduced. To explore groundwater resources in Perumahan Gang Jatibaru, geoelectric measurements need to be conducted. The Schlumberger configuration is used for 1D measurements, while the Wenner-Schlumberger configuration is used for 2D data acquisition. The modeling results indicate the presence of shallow groundwater aquifers at depths ranging from 11.1 to 28.3 meters, and deeper aquifers at depths between 42.7 and 79 meters, characterized by low resistivity values of approximately 13.2 13.2 ohm.m. These findings are corroborated by the 2D resistivity modeling conducted at the study site, which reveals a shallow low-resistivity anomaly (<15.2 13.2 ohm.m) occurring at depths of 10 to 28 meters.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The tsunami is a worrisome natural disaster typically in coastal areas, including Batu Balak Village in South Lampung. The Selat Sunda tsunami on December 22 2018 hit the Batu Balak Village residents and resulted in material and non-material losses. The unpreparedness of the residents who experienced this incident is a reminder of the urgency of the need to increase community preparedness in facing this threat. On this basis, service activities were carried out to strengthen mitigation and education on tsunami emergency response in Batu Balak Village, South Lampung. This service activity aims to strengthen the mitigation process and educate the community regarding the potential for a tsunami disaster in the Batu Balak area. Another purpose is to increase public knowledge of disaster management. The methods used in this service are needs analysis, solution design, program assistance, and implementation. Based on the problem analysis, we carried out a workshop event on tsunami disaster mitigation, how to increase the social economy by utilizing geotourism, and made a recommendation map for tsunami evacuation routes and zones. The workshop event was attended by several residents and community leaders. The results obtained from this activity are an increased understanding of the people who present regarding the tsunami disaster, what mitigation processes need to be implemented when a disaster occurs, and how to handle the loss after the disaster.
