Abstract

Breast cancer, a malignant tumor, remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women globally. This is supported by data from the World Health Organization (WHO), which reported nearly 1.7 million new cases in 2012, accounting for approximately 12% of all cancer diagnoses and 25% of cancers in women. By 2010, WHO estimated that breast cancer incidence had reached 11 million cases, and global cancer-related deaths were projected to rise to 27 million by 2030. Early detection of breast cancer is achievable through self-breast examination (SADARI). Without regular self-examinations, breast cancer is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, significantly increasing mortality risk. Early detection can reduce mortality rates by 25–30%. Monthly self-examinations are strongly recommended, and individuals should seek immediate medical consultation if a lump is detected. This practice is critical for public health, including adolescents, as 86% of breast lumps are first identified through self-examination. Increased awareness of SADARI positively influences women’s attitudes and behaviors, emphasizing its role in reducing breast cancer risk. Notably, women in early adulthood are more likely to adopt regular self-examinations to monitor breast health proactively. A community service initiative was conducted to educate 30 participants about SADARI. Knowledge levels were evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in understanding, with 23 respondents (76.66%) achieving high post-test scores, demonstrating the effectiveness of the educational outreach.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. It does not merely entail freedom from diseases related to the reproductive system, functions, and processes. Maintaining reproductive health is crucial for adolescents through adopting a healthy lifestyle and consuming vitamins. The age range for adolescents is typically between 10-20 years old, though according to the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation Number 25 of 2014, adolescents are defined as those aged 10 to 18 years. Adolescence begins with puberty, marked by physical and physiological changes. Reproductive health education should be introduced early, starting around 2,5-3 years old when children begin to be curious about their bodies. Parental education aims to help children understand reproductive health, emphasising the importance of personal hygiene, especially for adolescent girls. This education focuses on awareness and the importance of reproductive health and equipping children to make informed decisions in various situations. Community service initiatives aim to educate adolescents and improve their knowledge of reproductive health. An outreach activity was conducted on Friday, April 19, 2024, at SMPN 13 Jakarta, reaching 380 respondents directly through educational sessions. Evaluation involved pre-test and post-test questionnaires to measure knowledge levels, with results showing a significant increase in reproductive health knowledge among adolescents. Post-test results indicated high scores for 299 respondents (78.69%).

Abstract

Oral and dental health issues are critical in public health development, particularly among elementary school-aged children. Early dental care prevents enamel damage and supports the strength of children’s developing teeth. Children have a set of evenly aligned teeth at a young age that grow and develop gradually. Introducing oral hygiene habits early is essential. Failure to prevent cavities in school-aged children can hinder their long-term growth if specific measures are not taken, such as addressing dietary habits like consuming chicken and other foods. Such issues may disrupt a child’s developmental process. This community service initiative aimed to educate elementary school children to enhance their oral and dental health knowledge. The activity was conducted on Friday, December 13, 2024, at SDN (Elementary School) Kuningan Barat 01, South Jakarta. The program involved direct educational counselling sessions with 118 participants. Evaluation was performed through questionnaires to measure knowledge levels, assessed via pre-test and post-test results. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the children’s understanding of oral and dental health, evidenced by the post-test results, in which 80 respondents (67.78%) achieved high scores.
