Abstract

This research is based on the results of field observations, namely the low learning outcomes of students due to the lack of learning activities involving students because the learning process is still centered on the teacher, so that students are still less active in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement in student learning outcomes in learning about the circumference of flat shapes using the Problem Based Learning model in class V of SDN 15 Anduring, Padang City. This type of research is classroom action research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches. This research was conducted in two cycles, with research procedures consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research data obtained are related to the results Problem Based Learning model learning. Data collection techniques in the form of observation analysis, tests and non-tests. The subjects of this study were class teachers as observers, researchers as practitioners or teachers, and 24 students of class V SDN 15 Anduring, Padang City. The results of the study showed that: First, the cycle I teaching module obtained an average of 60% (C), increasing in cycle II to 90% (SB). Second, the results of the implementation of learning aspects of teachers in cycle I obtained an average of 75% (C), increasing in cycle II to 90% (SB). Third, the results of the implementation of learning aspects of students in cycle I obtained an average of 70% (C), increasing in cycle II to 90% (SB). Thus, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning model can improve student learning outcomes in learning the Perimeter of Flat Shapes in class V SDN 15 Anduring, Padang City.

Abstract

The teaching of Indonesian language in elementary schools plays a crucial role in developing students' literacy skills, particularly in narrative writing. However, in practice, many students struggle with generating ideas, constructing storylines, and utilizing proper language structures. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in enhancing narrative writing skills among fifth-grade elementary students. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was employed. The study involved two groups: the experimental group received instruction based on CTL, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data analysis indicated a significant improvement in the narrative writing skills of students in the experimental group compared to the control group. The CTL approach was shown to be effective in improving students' learning outcomes by relating lesson content to real-life experiences, while also fostering active participation and creativity. These findings suggest that CTL can be an effective instructional strategy for teaching writing in elementary schools.

Abstract

Thematic learning that integrates local wisdom through an ethnoscience approach is still not widely applied in elementary schools despite its great potential to improve understanding of science concepts while preserving local culture. This study aims to explore the implementation of ethnoscience-based thematic learning strategies and examine their impact on students’ science competence and understanding of local culture. Employing a qualitative research method with a case study approach, the study finds a significant improvement in students' comprehension of scientific concepts as well as an increased appreciation of local wisdom. This approach also enhances student engagement and motivation while encouraging teachers to implement contextual learning. Ethnoscience-based thematic learning has proven to be an effective strategy for integrating scientific and traditional knowledge in the elementary school curriculum.

Abstract

This study intends to examine the mathematical literacy skills of elementary school students in solving story problems. The ability to read mathematics includes not only understanding concepts, but also the ability to interpret, reason, and apply mathematics in everyday situations. The focus of this study is useful for evaluating the level of literacy competence of elementary school students. The method used in this study is Literature Review (LR), without direct observation in the field. Data were obtained through the analysis of various literature sources as well as the results of relevant previous research. The results of the study show that elementary school students still face challenges in understanding information in story problems, choosing the right solution strategies, and drawing conclusions from the problems faced. These findings highlight the need for a learning approach that is more focused on developing critical thinking competencies and contextual problem-solving. Learning that prioritizes real context, group discussions, and an emphasis on critical thinking processes is needed to support students in expanding their mathematical literacy skills to the fullest.

Abstract

The improvement of primary education quality has become a major focus in modern education. This study employs a literature review method to explore the application of the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) model in enhancing creativity and learning outcomes among elementary school students. The findings from various studies indicate that PJBL fosters critical and creative thinking, engages students actively, and promotes effective collaboration and communication. Furthermore, PJBL has proven to significantly improve learning outcomes by integrating real-world problem-solving with academic knowledge. This research concludes that PJBL is an effective, interactive, and innovative approach to create meaningful learning experiences. Recommendations include equipping teachers with proper training and resources to implement PJBL successfully in elementary.

Abstract

Reading is a basic language skill that plays a crucial role in the learning process at the elementary level. However, many students in grade V of elementary schools still face difficulties in reading comprehension. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of audiovisual media in improving reading skills of fifth grade students. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), by analyzing various national journals and studies published within the last five years. The results of the literature review indicate that audiovisual media significantly enhances students' interest, focus, and comprehension in reading activities. In conclusion, audiovisual media is proven to be a practical and innovative tool to support reading instruction, and its implementation is recommended to improve literacy outcomes in elementary education.

Abstract

Anti-corruption education is essential to be introduced from an early age as an effort to build honest, disciplined, and responsible character. Elementary school serves as a fundamental stage to instill these values through the subject of Civics Education (PPKn). This study uses a literature review method by analyzing relevant sources such as journals, books, and official policy documents. The aim is to identify the role of Civics Education in integrating anti-corruption values into elementary education. The findings indicate that Civics Education can serve as an effective medium to foster honesty, care, and responsibility through storytelling, discussions, and role-play methods. Support from teachers, schools, and families, as well as the development of contextual learning media, is needed to make anti-corruption values easier to understand and apply by elementary students.

Abstract

Artikel ini mengupas perkembangan kartografi dari zaman klasik hingga era digital modern, dengan penekanan pada evolusi peta sebagai alat representasi geografis. Kartografi, yang merupakan gabungan antara ilmu dan seni dalam pembuatan peta, telah mengalami perubahan signifikan sejak zaman peradaban kuno, seperti di Babilonia dan Yunani, di mana peta memiliki sifat simbolis dan artistik. Perkembangan ini terus berlanjut pada masa kejayaan peradaban Islam dan Tiongkok kuno, yang menunjukkan peningkatan dalam akurasi serta fungsinya sebagai alat administrasi. Era Eksplorasi, antara abad ke-15 hingga ke-17, menjadi titik penting dalam sejarah kartografi. Pada masa ini, lahirlah figuran seperti Gerardus Mercator dan Abraham Ortelius, yang terkenal dengan peta-peta hasil ekspedisi yang turut memperluas pengetahuan geografis dunia. Pada abad ke-18 dan ke-19, penemuan teknologi seperti sextant dan metode survei yang lebih baik semakin meningkatkan akurasi pemetaan, sementara pengaruh kolonialisme juga membawa dampak terhadap isi dan orientasi peta. Dengan masuknya era digital, hadirnya Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) merupakan sebuah revolusi dalam dunia pemetaan. SIG memungkinkan integrasi data spasial dengan analisis yang dinamis, menjadikannya sebagai alat penting di berbagai sektor, termasuk pembangunan, mitigasi bencana, dan pengelolaan sumber daya. Selain itu, integrasi SIG dengan teknologi mutakhir seperti kecerdasan buatan, big data, dan Internet of Things (IoT) menandai arah baru kartografi yang semakin presisi dan inklusif.

Abstract

Until today, many individuals remain unaware of the core subjects explored by reporters and journalists. Journalism, which plays a vital role as a form of social control within society, ideally should be introduced from an early age. Developing strong journalistic writing abilities is a gradual process and cannot be achieved instantly. Therefore, this journal seeks to examine the extent of journalism’s impact and assess the level of understanding that elementary school students have in this area. This topic falls within the broader scope of Social Studies and Cartography.
