Abstract

This study looked into whether using infographics could spark more interest in history among tenth graders at MAN 2 Pontianak. The researchers focused on students from this grade and used a quantitative approach to dig into the data. To ensure accurate outcomes, the students were divided into two groups: one experienced learning through infographics (the experimental group), and the other did not (the control group). Researchers using area sampling technique to ensure the student were a good representation of the whole grade. Through Questionnaires, observations and also reviewing relevant document, researcher get a full picture of how engaged the students were. In fact, about 67.5% of the students’ increased interest in history could be chalked up to the infographics. So, in plain terms, adding cool visuals like infographics to lessons could be a big win for teachers trying to make history more fun and engaging. The results were pretty promising. It turns out that infographics really did help students get more into history. The stats backed this up, with a regression equation showing Y = 15.032 + 0.670X. Based on the decision making in the regression test from the coefficient table, the significance value came out to 0.000 below the 0.05 mark. It can be concluded there’s a solid connection between using infographics and students being more interested.

Abstract

The high level of social diversity in Pontianak City demands the strengthening of tolerance character among the younger generation, while the family is believed to serve as the primary foundation for shaping children’s social attitudes. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family social capital and the tolerance character of high school students in Pontianak City. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey design. The study involved 405 high school students selected through random sampling. Data were collected via a closed-ended questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale, covering constructs of family social capital and students’ tolerance character, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression. The findings revealed a very strong and significant relationship between family social capital and students’ tolerance character, with family social capital contributing 59.7% to the variance in students’ tolerance character. However, the average level of students’ tolerance character remains moderate, indicating the need for broader interventions. These results emphasize the crucial role of the family in cultivating tolerance values but also highlight the necessity for collaborative efforts among families, schools, and communities. This study contributes to the understanding of character education development based on family social capital within multicultural contexts and offers insights for more comprehensive educational policy formulation

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine and obtain data regarding the relationship between critical thinking skills and academic achievement in students of the Social Studies Education study program at Tanjungpura University. The method used is a quantitative approach in the form of Ex Post Facto. The population in this study were students of the Social Studies Education study program, FKIP, Tanjungpura University, class of 2022, 2023, and 2024, consisting of 104 students with a research sample of 83 students taken based on a non-probability sampling technique with a voluntary sampling type. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the study showed that there was no significant relationship between critical thinking skills and academic achievement, namely the sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.196 (p>0.05) and the correlation coefficient value of 0.143, which means that the relationship between critical thinking skills and academic achievement has a very low (very weak) correlation level even though it has a positive value (0.143). The conclusion of this study indicates that critical thinking skills are not the sole benchmark for achieving good academic achievement and can be caused by internal factors such as self-motivation and external factors such as the existence of digital literacy and artificial intelligence (AI) that provide convenience to individuals. Respondents' critical thinking skills are also not in line with GPA values due to the tendency for students to easily obtain GPA scores and are one of the indicators for assessing the study program accreditation system to achieve the "Excellent" category which is measured by the high average GPA of students in the last 3 years.
