Background: Cancer therapy during the pandemic causes physical and psychological problems. It impacts happiness in their lives. Laughter yoga is an intervention that can increase happiness. The purpose of this study is to prove that laughter yoga can increase the achievement of individual and peer happiness in cancer patients undergoing therapy in a pandemic situation. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The total sample was 40 cancer patients at the Indonesia Cancer Foundation East Java selected through the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the implementation, 20 people belong to the intervention group (IG) and 20 other people belong to the control group (CG). The IG provided laughter yoga 2x/a week for 4 weeks with 14 steps, while CG only through daily activities. Both groups conducted pre-test and post-tests using The Subjective Happiness Scale. The scale consists of two indicators: individual happiness and peers’ happiness. In addition, the calculation of the two indicators is done separately. The instrument has been tested for its validity and reliability. The data were normally distributed (Shapiro-Wilk test p > 0.05). Statistical test was conducted using paired t-test (p < 0.05) to test the pre-post data in both groups and independent sample t-test (p < 0.05) to test the effectiveness of the intervention compared to the control group. Results: Demographic data of respondents was homogenous. The mean score of individual and peer happiness before and after intervention in the IG increased. It means that respondents had better happiness. Meanwhile, in the CG there was a stagnation score of individual and peer happiness. Paired t-test in the IG showed that individual and peers’ happiness got the same p-value < 0.001 each. In the CG, individual happiness records p = 1.000 and peers’ happiness p = 0.083. Statistical tests conducted by Independent t-test to compare IG and CG had the p = 0.012 for individual happiness and p = < 0.001 for peers’ happiness. Conclusions: Laughter yoga has a significant effect to enhance individual and peer happiness compared to respondents who only carry out normal daily activities, especially for cancer patients undergoing therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cancer related Fatigue (CRF) is a symptom that occurs in almost all cancer patients. CRF causes various physical and psychological impacts that can hinder the patient's normal life. The aim of this study was to explain the multifactorial triggers of CRF in cancer patients. The research design used is a descriptive design. The population of all cancer patients at the Kedungdoro Public Health Center Surabaya, with a large sample of 28 people. Samples were taken by purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The instrument uses a Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) which has been tested for validity and reliability. The triggering factor for CRF in this study with the highest CRF score for each factor was age in the elderly group (23.4 + 6.8), gender factor was found in women (18.96 + 6.73), the type of cancer was found in breast cancer (21.25 + 7.36), the cancer stage factor was in stage 3 cancer (24.11 + 8.29), the length of cancer was 4-6 years (21.62 + 6.04), and the cancer therapy factor was found in respondents who received chemotherapy + surgery therapy (24.11 + 8.29). All of the above factors trigger mild CRF with varying mean scores ranging from the lowest score of 16 to the highest score of 24.11. CRF does not appear only because of cancer, but there are other multifactorial factors that trigger CRF in cancer patients

Cancer is still interpreted by most people as a disease that is difficult to cure and causes death in a short time, this triggers the psychological distress of cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to describe the demographic factors that strengthen the incidence of stress in cancer patients. The design used is descriptive design. The population of all cancer patients at Kedungdoro and Rangkah Public Health Center Surabaya, a sample of 20 people was taken by purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The instrument used is the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) which has been tested for validity and reliability. The statistical test used is descriptive statistics on each of the assessed factors. The factors that strengthen the emergence of stress with the highest score on each factor are adult age (19.2 + 7.91), male gender (24.5 + 9.19), respondents who work (18.66 + 4.76), living at home with parents (21.42 + 6.97), type of breast cancer (18.69 + 7.45), duration of diagnosis of cancer 5 – 7 years (21.8 + 5.89), cancer stage 0 (21.12 + 6.79), type of chemotherapy and radiation therapy (22.5 + 7.85). Eight factors amplify the occurrence of stress with the results of the mean stress scores varying and all of them fall into the category of moderate stress. Stress does not appear with just one stressor, but a combination of multifactorials that are interrelated and trigger stress in cancer patients

Background and purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a high-stress situation and disrupted sleep quality in cancer patients. Laughter yoga is a method that suggested to improve sleep quality. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of laughter yoga to improve sleep quality of cancer patients during the pandemic. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group approach. The study was conducted at the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, East Java Surabaya branch, in June 202, involved 20 people in each intervention and control group. The instrument used was Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), with lower scores reflect better sleep quality. Laughter yoga intervention was given to the intervention group for four weeks, twice a week, and 20 minutes each meeting while the control group performed daily routine activities. Data was analysed with Paired t-test for pre and post intervention, and Independent Sample t-test for comparing both groups. Results: The intervention group shows a decrease in the global PSQI score (from 10.15+2.18 to 7.55+1.87) with p< 0.001, while in control group, there was an increased score (from 10.05+1.46 to 10.10+1.44) with p=0.841. The intervention group showed a decrease in the average score on the global and all of the components PSQI score, indicating a better sleep quality. Meanwhile, in the control group, the average global sleep quality score almost the same, and no significant decrease in all components. Laughter yoga was effective in improving the sleep quality of cancer patients during the pandemic. Conclusion: Laughter yoga is effective to improve sleep quality. This technique can be routinely practice to improve relaxation and stimulate improvements in sleep quality in all components.

Abstract: Disruption of sleep latency and duration of cancer patients occurs due to multifactorial causes, one of which is a side effect of cancer therapy. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of acupressure at the Shenmen HT7 point on sleep latency and duration of post-therapy cancer patients. The design uses a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The population is 50 cancer patients at the Pucang Sewu Health Center and the Rangkah Health Center, Surabaya. A sample of 25 respondents was taken by purposive sampling according to the researcher's criteria. The instrument used was the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The results of the pre-test mean latency and sleep duration scores respectively were 1.96 + 0.61 and 1.08 + 0.86, while in the post-test conditions it was 1.12 + 0.72 and 0.56 + 0.71. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test statistical test found that the p-value on the latency and sleep duration variables was 0.000 and 0.001, respectively, which means that there was a significant effect of giving the HT7 Shenmen point acupressure on the latency and sleep duration of post-therapy cancer patients. HT7 Shenmen stimulates the release of endorphins which cause relaxation, a feeling of calm, comfort, thereby helping to improve sleep latency and duration.
