Abstract

This community service program was implemented in the coastal area of Ambon City, which is highly vulnerable to tsunamis and coastal abrasion. It was motivated by the low level of geographical literacy and disaster awareness among high school students. The aim was to enhance spatial understanding and disaster preparedness through a participatory approach combining local mapping, simple geospatial technology, and local wisdom. The method employed a Participatory Action Research model consisting of problem identification, teacher-student training, participatory mapping, mitigation simulation, and impact evaluation. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ ability to interpret risk maps and evacuation routes, as well as the creation of locally contextualized mitigation learning modules. This program contributes both conceptually and practically to strengthening disaster education in coastal schools and encourages replication in other regions with supportive policies and simple technologies

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to enhance the capacity of 30 geography teachers in island schools in Ambon City to develop learning media based on local potential that reflects the region’s geographical characteristics. The activity was motivated by the limited use of contextual media that mirrors students’ real environments. Its goal was to empower teachers to design and utilize learning media that strengthen students’ spatial understanding. The method included participatory mentoring, three-month technical workshops, and classroom implementation. Results showed a 40% improvement in teachers’ ability to design interactive media, a 35% increase in student engagement, and the emergence of school initiatives to build inter-teacher collaboration. The program demonstrated a significant contribution to strengthening locally rooted education in island regions. The approach is recommended for sustainable implementation in other island-based schools across Eastern Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning contained in the Cakalele dance ritual as a local wisdom of the Maluku tribe that can be used as a source for sociology learning at the high school level or equivalent. Sociology, as a social science, can utilize this local wisdom to enrich understanding and help students understand sociology learning themes. This study used descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was conducted through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used interactive techniques. The results of the study can be conveyed that learning management in the local wisdom of the "Cakalele dance" can be used as a source of sociology learning because it is relevant to one of the sociology learning themes in grade X in the independent curriculum, namely social phenomena in a multicultural society. In addition, utilizing the Cakalele dance ritual as a learning resource is a contextual approach that can help students understand one of the sociology learning topics because they can observe events directly in real life. By utilizing the local wisdom of the Cakalele dance as a learning resource, it can create creative, innovative, and enjoyable sociology learning.

Abstract

This study is driven by the imperative of 21st-century educational transformation, which necessitates deep learning approaches to foster students' critical thinking and profound comprehension. Despite its importance, applying deep learning pedagogies encounters multifaceted challenges in practice. Consequently, this research aims to analyze current deep learning implementation and identify the primary barriers educators face in schools. A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, involving school principals and teachers as participants. Data were systematically gathered through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, and subsequently evaluated using data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The findings reveal that while deep learning principles are being introduced through interactive discussions, reflective practices, and contextualized real-world learning, their implementation remains suboptimal. Significant constraints include inadequate information technology infrastructure, varied levels of student comprehension, overwhelming administrative burdens on teachers, and insufficient family support. Despite these hurdles, teachers demonstrate resilience by adapting innovative, context-specific instructional strategies. Ultimately, the successful institutionalization of deep learning relies heavily on educator readiness, comprehensive infrastructure support, and robust synergy among schools, families, and policymakers. This study contributes to the broader educational discourse by offering empirical insights into the pedagogical realities of deep learning and by providing actionable recommendations for stakeholders to elevate the quality of global teaching and learning environments.
