Abstract

Abstract

Based on pre-research data from fourth-grade students at SDN Gugus Sultan Agung, Jepara, the Social Studies learning outcomes were found to be suboptimal. The learning model used tended to be teacher-centered, with image-based learning media. This research is an experimental study using cluster random sampling, with a population consisting of 158 fourth-grade students from SDN Gugus Sultan Agung, Jepara. The sample used was SD Negeri 02 Pecangaan Wetan as the control group and SD Negeri 01 Karangrandu as the experimental group. The aim of this study is to describe the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDN Gugus Sultan and to test the effectiveness of the Circuit Learning model assisted by quartet cards on Social Studies learning outcomes. The results show that the experimental group scored higher, at 76.3, compared to the control group, which only scored 66.6. The hypothesis test results indicate that tcalculated = 2.9627 > ttable = 2.0009, meaning the null hypothesis is rejected, which shows that the Circuit Learning model assisted by quartet cards is effective for teaching Social Studies to fourth-grade students. The conclusion of this research is that the Circuit Learning model assisted by quartet cards is more effective for teaching Social Studies on the topic of Hindu-Buddhist historical heritage compared to the Direct Instruction model for fourth-grade students at SDN Gugus Sultan Agung, Jepara. Abstract

Social Studies learning in elementary schools plays an important role in shaping students’ knowledge, social skills, and character from an early age. However, in practice, various challenges are still encountered that contribute to low student interest and learning outcomes, such as the dominance of lecture-based teaching methods, the lack of engaging learning media, and limited innovation in instructional strategies. This study aims to examine innovative learning strategies that can be applied in Social Studies instruction to enhance elementary students’ interest in learning. The method employed is a qualitative approach using a literature review, conducted through an analysis of various relevant journals and scientific articles. The findings indicate that the implementation of innovative strategies such as the Joyful Learning model, Team Quiz, the use of visual media, digital interactive media, learning applications such as Canva, and outdoor study methods can create a more engaging, participatory, and meaningful learning environment. These strategies have been shown to be effective in increasing students’ learning interest, active participation, as well as their critical and social thinking skills. The challenges faced by teachers in implementing these strategies include limited understanding of innovative models, limited availability of learning media, and time management constraints. Therefore, continuous teacher training and support from schools are necessary to ensure that innovative learning strategies can be optimally implemented in Social Studies learning at the elementary school level.
