To obtain the data, the researcher used a test as an instrument. The t-test results show that the calculated t value is greater than the t table at the 5% significance level (1.666). The significance value results show that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, while the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This means that there is a significant effect of using the Example Non-Example learning model on tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar in writing descriptive text.

The objectives of this research are: (1) To find out the types of figurative language used in Bruno Mars’ song album. (2) To find out the most dominant type of figurative language used in Bruno Mars’ song album. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The type of data for this research is Bruno Mars' songs from the album 24K Magic, namely 24K Magic, That's What I Like, Calling All My Lovelies, Chunky, Versace on the Floor, Finesse, Perm, Straight Up & Down, Too Good to Say Goodbye. In this research, the researchers used Keraf's theory. From the analysis, the results of this research show that the total data of types of figurative language used in the album 24K Magic by Bruno Mars is 32 (100%). The most dominant figurative language style is Eponym. There are 11 (34%) Eponym in the song lyrics, 6 (19%) total personification data, 10 (31%) total metaphor data, and 5 (16%) similes in the song lyrics. The presence of figurative language in songs makes the conveyed message more interesting for the listeners. The author suggests that other researchers continue to analyze figurative language as it can help readers understand the meaning contained in the song lyrics. Another suggestion is for researchers who want to analyze figurative language in song lyrics to use other objects such as novels, films, poetry, etc.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Cake Application on eighth-grade students’ mastery of action verbs in recount texts at SMP Negeri 12 Pematangsiantar. Motivated by students’ low vocabulary performance, especially in understanding the linguistic features of recount texts as required by the Merdeka Curriculum (Permendikbud No. 5 of 2022), this research employs a quasi-experimental design. Two classes were assigned as control and experimental groups. The experimental class received instruction through the Cake Application, while the control class used conventional media. Pre-test and post-test scores show a significant improvement in the experimental class (from 55.9 to 77.74). Independent t-test results (t = 3.854, p < 0.001) confirm the effectiveness of the treatment. These findings suggest that Cake Application significantly enhances students’ vocabulary mastery, particularly in action verbs relevant to recount texts.

This research was conducted to assess the impact of the Team Game Tournament (TGT) teaching method on ninth-grade students' ability to write procedural texts at SMP Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two classes with a total of 60 students. The researcher found that the mean post-test score for the experimental class was 80.8, while the control class scored a mean of 74.8. This indicates that the experimental class outperformed the control class. After analyzing the data, the researcher determined that the t-test value was greater than the t-table value (2.875>1.672). Therefore, it can be concluded that the TGT teaching method effectively enhances students' ability to write procedural texts at the ninth grade level at SMP Tamansiswa Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

This research aimed to assess the effect of Picture Series on reading comprehension among eighth-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar, based on the theory by King and Stainley. A quantitative methodology was employed, focusing on the eighth-grade population for the academic year 2024/2025. The sample consisted of two classes: VIII-5 as the experimental group, which included 31 students taught using Picture Series, and VIII-6 as the control group, also with 31 students, who were taught using the Monothone strategy. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests. The experimental group had a mean pre-test score of 66.93, which increased to 82.74 in the post-test, while the control group improved from 63.70 to 72.09. The t-test result was 4.535, exceeding the t-table value of 1.671 at a 5% significance level. This led to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho), indicating that Picture Series significantly enhances reading comprehension among eighth-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar.
