Integrating local culture into the process of learning a foreign language has only recently begun to draw attention. Therefore, local culture-based English reading materials are a solution to attract students' interest in reading English. The objectives of this research are to develop the students’ English reading materials based on local culture at SMPN 32 Medan, to find out the validation of English reading material based on local culture at SMPN 32 Medan, and to explain the effectiveness of English reading material based on local culture at SMPN 32 Medan. This research adapted the R&D model proposed by Sugiyono (2013) with some modifications. The data was taken from students and teachers of SMPN 32 Medan and also expert judgment from Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah Medan. The instruments of this research are questionnaire, documentation and test. The result of validation from the material expert judgment is 91.66% and the material expert judgment is 85.71%. It means that the product in very high category. The result of validation from the teacher is also high category, 88.63% . In addition, the product was also tested on students and the results showed a significant increase in scores after the students learned using the local culture-based reading materials. Unit 1 increased up to 10.36%, Unit 2 increased up to 12.15%, Unit 3 increased up to 14.06% and Unit 4 increased up to 15.26%. The average score of students, which was previously the highest at 78, increased to 89. The conclusion based on the research results shows that these English reading materials can be adopted as teaching materials as additional learning for English lessons that are interesting, contextual, and adapted to the Merdeka curriculum.

This reaserch aimed to analyze the English literacy errors made by eighth-grade students at SMPN 34 Medan in understanding narrative texts. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research analyzed students’ written responses to a narrative text titled “The Little One and the Rain.” The findings revealed three main types of errors: inference errors (30%), vocabulary errors (30%), and referencing errors (40%). These results indicated that students struggled to interpret implied meanings, select appropriate vocabulary, and use pronouns correctly. It was concluded that teachers need to emphasize reading strategies, contextual vocabulary development, and cohesion through referencing practice to improve students’ reading comprehension.

Dalam Bahasa Mandailing ditemukan dua bentuk linguistik /um-/ dan /-um-/ yang memiliki bentuk dan makna yang sama. Masalah yang mungkin timbul adalah apakah kedua bentuk linguistik tersebut merupakan alomorf dari morfem yang sama atau morfem yang berdiri sendiri. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, digunakanlah teori yang menekankan pada pentingnya bentuk dan makna untuk mengidentifikasi sebuah morfem. Dengan menggunakan teori ini, dapat dinyatakan bahwa bentuk /um-/ dan /-um-/ merupakan alomorf dari morfem yang sama, yaitu /um-/. Proses morfofonemik dalam pembentukan prefiks /um-/ dan /-um-/ disebabkan oleh kendala fonologis. Maka morfem /um-/ dapat diindentifikasikan sebagai prefiks yang dapat berdiri sendiri. Prefiks /um-/ memiliki distribusi yang sejajar dengan sufiks /-ani/. Kedua imbuhan tersebut dapat digabungkan dengan kata dasar yang sama dan menghasilkan makna yang sama.

This study aims is to determine the results of the development of interactive multimedia-based anecdotal text learning modules by students State of Vocational High School 1 of Batang Toru. The module developed is in the form of a digital module. This type of research is development research based on the 4-D development model. With the subject of the trial consisting of design experts, material experts, Indonesian language teachers, and class X students of State of Vocational High School 1 Batang Toru. The results showed that (1) the validation of the material experts included the content eligibility is 88.0% in the good category, the feasibility of presenting is 93.7% learning module Very good category, Interactive Mutimedia aspects is 95.8% very good category, language assessment aspects 92, 5% category is very good, and aspects of project based learning is 83.3% Good category (2) validation of design experts includes initial design is 89.2% with good category, content design is 83.9% good category, digital module typography is 83.3 category good, and 87.5% illustration in good category. (3) limited trials obtained a score is 82.79% with good criteria. (4)Expanded trials obtained a score is 80.04% in the good category. The difference obtained was 13 from before and after using a digital module. This research has implications, namely the module developed will contribute to the practice, especially in the implementation of the learning process for teachers as additional teaching materials to provide convenience to the material being taught can be independent or classical. Blended learning is alternative teaching practice to assist students in improving their performance, which mixed two main elements, namely learning in the classroom and online learning. This study is quantitative research that aims to investigate the effect of the Blended Learning Model on the students’ writing achievement. This research was conducted at MAN 1 Aceh Tenggara on Jln. Iskandar Muda No. 5 Babussalam Student Complex Kutacane, Gumpang Jaya, Kec. Babussalam, Kab. Southeast Aceh, Aceh. This policy is accompanied by instructions for implementing distance learning or online learning. So, the researcher use blended learning model to improve students writing achievement during covid 19 by implementation of google meet, google classroom, and WhatsApps Group to instructional Media. The population of sample are : XI Mia 1 and XI Mia 2.the experimental group was by XI Mia 1 taught by applying blended learning model and the control group was by XI Mia 2 instructed through the traditional method by lecturing method.The researcher choose this method because very benefit for teacher and student The minimum completeness criteria of English Lesson at MAN 1 Aceh Tenggara = 60. The mean score of students test on pre test = 50,43. The mean score on post test improved become = 78,14 and it reached the minimum completeness criteria score. The calculation of data by using t test and found the tobservation = 2,077 then compared it with ttable = 2,030 of level alpha = 5%. It meant that tobservation was higher that ttable = 26,28 > 2,040.

This research aims was to determine (1) the students’ ability in writing persuasive text and (2) to find out what factors affect students' ability to write persuasive text. This research is descriptive qualitative. In this research the sample was taken by means of cluster random sampling as many as 25 students. Data were collected through tests in the form of persuasive texts written by students and then through analytical procedures according to the rubric of assessment aspects and through non-test, namely questionnaire. Then the data collected will be presented in the form of a description. Based on the results of the research, it is known that the students' ability in writing persuasive text is good (capable). It is proven that the average value obtained reaches 79.5 and the number of students who are less able to write persuasive text well and get a score below the KKM is 24% of students. This means that students who have been able to reach the KKM are 76% of students with good interpretations.

Abstract This research was intended to find out the correlation between students’ ability in grammar and vocabulary with students’ writing paragraph achievements. There was a correlation between students’ ability in grammar and vocabulary with students’ writing paragraph achievements. From the calculation above it found that tobserved = 5.754whereas the ttable Keyword: grammar ability, vocabulary ability. Writing paragraph achievement = 2.009. It shows that correlation between students’ ability in grammar and vocabulary with students’ writing paragraph achievements was significant at 0.05. From the result, the researcher found that there was correlation of the students’ ability in grammar and vocabulary with students’ writing paragraph achievements. This means that the correlation of the students’ ability in grammar and vocabulary with students’ writing paragraph achievements.

The objective of the research was to improve the students’ reading achievement of grade X students at SMKN 1 Beringin academic year 2018-2019 by using the lecturing technique. The researcher used the experimental research. The population of the research was grade of students X TKJ1 and X TKJ2, and two classes were chosen as sample of the research in which there were 32 students for experimental class, and 32 students for control group. The actions implemented in this research were using lecturing technique, giving more explanation in English, making use of the LCD projector optimally, and providing activities that enabled the students to improve reading achievement. The research results of the resesarch showed that the use of lecturing technique in the English teaching and learning process was effective to improve the students’ reading achievement. There was an increase in the means score from 8.43 in pre-test to 25.31 in the post-test. There were some good improvements in some aspects such as their familiarity in reading descriptive texts in English. Also, they become actively participating in discussions during the teaching and learning process. They were more aware of mistakes due to correction from other students. In addition, this technique successfully attracted the attention of students. In short, they understood comprehensively the purpose of the text that had been given.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether questioning technique and critical thinking can help improve reading comprehension ability in students enrolled in XII Grade Mathematics and XII Grade Science. The study used a quasi-experimental design in which a control group was pre-tested and a post-test group was tested. This study looks at the students of State Senior High School 13 Medan. The research sample used to determine the results of the experiment was chosen from among the students in the class, with a random selection being made from each group. The data analysis used in this study is an indication of the intelligence of the participants. The Mann-Whitney test is used as a method for testing hypotheses. The study found that questioning techniques and critical thinking help improve students’ reading comprehension skills. The effectiveness of students' critical thinking skills is higher in the experimental class who use the effective questioning technique in Unit XII MIA 1 than in the control class in Unit XII MIS 1.
