Abstract

This qualitative research addresses the lexical change in Javanese language, which is aimed at  explaining the lexical change reasons of Javanese language in Deli Serdang Regency. The transmigration process as the main aspects of creating Javanese language changes into variety accent and invite more action for the revitalization of language. The empirical materials were thoroughly and well-gathered from the document and interview. The highly critical and systematic analysis with ‘Miles and Huberman Model’ reveals that Javanese language in Deli Serdang Regency changes. This research has drawn the following reasons of lexical changes of Javanese language in Deli Serdang Regency were linguistic causes, historical, environmental causes and psychological causes. The internal reasons are homonym (words which have the same phonemic structure but different meanings), phonetic attrition (the variations of meanings due to the sound change), and shortening. On the other hand, external factors are historical or social. Nevertheless, the social factor of lexical change pointed out is about cultural factor due to the wide definition of social factor itself, which might be cultural, historical, economic,ect. In addition, the reasons of language changes for language split and language borrowing are recognizable on this phenomenon since the Javanese language of Deli Serdang Regency has diversity in classifying of dialect.

Abstract

Modernization and technology as supporters and solutions in a variety of learning problems, namely limited time to face to face, low self-confidence, limited introverted character, and lack of time flexibility to understand the material in the context of open discussion. The what’sApp application is a solution to existing problems by providing unlimited learning space and without just having to carry out discussions face-to-face. This study aims to bridge the students who have problems with the ability to respond spontaneously to learning material. This media is proven to be able to make the activity of students participating in lectures increase significantly. Learning discussions are made in a WhatsApp group by combining several classes so that there arises competitive learning interest where teaching material is shared with the presenter and respondent groups. The response given in online media using WhatsApp supports the activeness and optimism of learning. This research is a quantitative study by testing hypotheses or solving problems on the basis of theoretical deduction, by measurement using statistical data. This type of quantitative research used is a quantitative associative causal relationship, which is conducted to determine the causal relationship between the independent variable (the variable that affects) and the dependent variable (the variable that is affected). Based on the data collected, it was found that the use of WhatsApp online application media had a significant impact on increasing student motivation in participating in the learning process. This is supported by the percentage reaching 70% of students feeling so excited and freer to use the application with more motivated to be more active in lectures. Based on the results of the research questionnaire also supports that students with a high level of concern for responding to face-to-face classes become very active and helped when conducting discussions via online using the WhatsApp Application.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has at least had a positive impact on the development of the Indonesian language. Many new words are used to convey information related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The vocabulary and terms used to inform about Covid-19 were originally in English. This is very reasonable because the covid-19 pandemic has not only attacked the country of Indonesia, but there are several countries that were first affected by the Covid-19 virus and have become cases of a global pandemic. The vocabulary and terms that were originally in English now have equivalent words in Indonesian, as an effort to avoid misunderstandings in receiving information related to the Covid-19 pandemic. At present, the use of foreign terms has begun to be reduced and replaced with new terms in Indonesian, although most of the Indonesian vocabulary is not yet in the KBBI. The use of the Indonesian language plays an important role in delivering information related to the spread of the Covid-19 virus among the Indonesian people. This shows that language is dynamic, that is, it can adapt to the current developments that are now very much changing in the global era by applying new Indonesian vocabulary during the Covid-19 pandemic as communicative information delivery among the Indonesian people

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah membantu guru - guru MTs Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah Dalu X A Kabupaten Deli Serdang dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan level kefasihan dalam pengucapan bahasa Inggris dimana kualitas kefasihan merujuk kepada penutur asli atau native speaker. Penggunaan aplikasi speechace dapat mendeteksi level kefasihan pengucapan dengan standard kemiripan pada penutur asli. Media ini selain mampu mendeteksi juga dapat mengarahkan dengan ketersidaan contoh pengucapan yang baik dan benar merujuk pada kefasihan sempurna. Semakin fasih pengucapan maka akan semakin baik kualitas penuturan dalam berbahasa Inggris. Kefasihan juga berdampak pada kualitas kemampuan siswa mendengar (listening) sehingga butuh pelatihan khusus untuk guru dalam meningkatkan level kefasihan. Karena pembelajar sebuah bahasa adalah imitator atau peniru, maka jika gurunya sangat berkualitas sudah tentu murid juga memiliki kualitas yang tak jauh berbeda. Tujuan khusus dengan mensosialisasikan penggunaan media pembelajaran atau berbasis web internet melalui aplikasi speechace secara online untuk meningkatkan daya saing didunia kerja. Penerapan yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakarat pada MTs Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah Dalu X A dengan mensosialisasikan pengoperasian aplikasi digital speechace berupa: (1) Pemilihan tingkat kefasihan dan kajian kosa kata ataupun ungkapan berbahasa Inggris. (2) Acuan dan standard kefasihan (3) Pengujian tingkat kefasihan guru. Pengabdian dilaksanakan di MTs Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai. Kefasihan dalam pelafalan Bahasa Inggris sangat mempengaruhi kualifikasi skill dalam berbahasa Inggris mengacu kepada standarisasi penutur asli (native speaker). Urgensi yang harus dipenuhi adalah daya saing yang amat tinggi didunia kerja atau dunia perkuliahan yang berstandard Internasional. Kualitas Bahasa Inggris yang baik akan member kontribusi menunjang untuk meraih beasiswa pendidikan baik bagi guru dan siswa, begitu juga didunia kerja untuk menjemput kesusksesan yang gemilang.

Abstract

SMK DR. Cipto Mangunkusumo Kabupaten Simalungun, saat in masuk dalam zona oranye dengan risiko sedang. Hal ini menyebabkan seluruh lembaga pendidikan di wilayah Kabupaten Simalungun dilarang melakukan proses pembelajaran tatap muka. Penelitian ini secara khusus bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keefektifan media daring yang digunakan selama pandemi covid-19, dan mengevaluasi langkah perbaikan media pembelajaran daring untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar bahasa Indonesia di SMK DR Cipto Mangunkusumo Perdagangan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dengan beberapa tahapan diantaranya, tahap pralapangan (adaptasi dan pengumpulan data awal); tahap kegiatan lapangan (observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi); tahap pengumpulan data; tahap analisis data; dan pelaporan hasil penelitian. Dari data yang diperoleh, bahwa media daring yang paling diminati siswa adalah: google classroom (49%), whatsapp group (31%), dan messenger (20%). Media yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran daring di SMK Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo dinilai sangat efektif oleh 11 siswa (31%), efektif (9 siswa atau 26%), kurang efektif (10 siswa atau 29%), tidak efektif (5 siswa atau 14%). Evaluasi perbaikan untuk memaksimalkan tingkat keefektifan pembelajaran secara daring dapat dilakukan dengan platform digital yang lebih luas, misalnya seperti youtube, instagram, zoom, dan lain sebagainya.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine whether there was a significant effect of the use of Instagram media on student achievement in students' writing mastery in procedural texts. This type of research is quantitative research and was conducted using two classes as research samples, namely class VIII-A as the experimental class consisting of 31 students and class VIII-C as the control class consisting of 31 students. In the data collection technique, the researcher conducted a pre-test, treatment and post-test by giving a test in the form of an example of a procedure text. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant effect of using Instagram on students' vocabulary mastery. This can be seen after the calculation and analysis of t-table df 60 (n= n-2= 31+31-2) at t-critical 0.05 obtained 1.67. If the comparison of the values ​​of to and tt, then the observed value is greater than the value of t-table or 9.59 > 1.67. This means that the eighth grade students of Al-Ulum Islamic Junior High School Terpadu apply Instagram media in learning procedure texts higher than those without Instagram media. After testing the research hypothesis, it turns out that the hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

Every educator who will implement a learning process should prepare every single thing needed. One of the most important need is a lesson plan which are used as guidelines for carrying out a learning process which include all integrated and matched plans that create to several other tools such as teaching materials, learning media, worksheets and assessments. These needs are able to accommodate the thinking process of students and they are having a thinking skill, especially high order thinking skills (HOTS). Every educator must have knowledge in preparing lesson plans that accommodate higher-order thinking skills. In order for educators to have this knowledge, socialization of the stages in preparing HOTS-based which implemented in lesson plan for educators is carried out.Keywords: Lesson Plan, HOTS, learning tools

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate wheather or not Duolingo can improve students’ grammar ability in English. This research use quantitative method and conducted in VII-B SMP Satria Dharma Perbaungan. In this research, the reasearcher used one class as the sample with total number of 26 students. The data was collected by giving pre-test and post-test as the instruments. The result of this research was calculated by using T-test. The findings showed that the students’ post-test scores was (80,76) it was higher than their pre-test scores (61,73). The result that is showed by using t-test, the scores of tcalculation (8,57) was higher than score of ttable (1,705) at significant level 5%. This finding reveals that Duolingo gives the significant result at 7th grade students of SMP Satria Dharma Perbaungan to increase students grammar ability in English.

Abstract

Speaking in spoken English is the act of conveying information or expressing thoughts and feelings. This study described how to analyze students' speaking fear in English Public Speaking at eighth semester Muslim Nusantara University Al-Washliyah Medan English Education Department. The qualitative research method was applied in this study. The researcher employed observation, interview, and questionnaire to gather the data. Three main stages of data analysis were used by the researcher: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing verification. Following a study of the data, the researcher came to the following conclusions about speaking fear among students at eighth semester Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan English Education Department: First, the researcher discovered that the following factors contributed to students' speaking anxiety in English Public Speaking: self-prediction of fear, illogical faith, oversensitivity to threat, anxiety sensitivity, incorrect attribution of body signal, and low self-efficacy. Second, students' lack of speaking confidence in English, fear of making mistakes when speaking, nervousness when the teacher asks them to speak up, and shyness to perform in front of the class are the causes of students' speaking anxiety.
