Abstract

The development of digital culture has given rise to the phenomenon of viral challenges, which have not only become an entertainment trend but also shaped the mindset and behaviour of contemporary society. This dynamic has had a significant impact on moral values, particularly when the challenges that circulate normalise risky behaviour and erode norms of propriety. The massive viral challenge phenomenon in virtual space reveals an ambivalence between positive creativity and the potential for moral degradation due to the removal of cultural and religious norms. The purpose of this study is to examine the ethical challenges of viral challenge culture from a Christian theological perspective and to formulate its implications for the life of faith. Using a qualitative method based on literature study with theological-ethical analysis of contemporary digital phenomena, it can be concluded that the viral challenge culture in a social and digital perspective shows how digital trends shape new patterns of interaction and values in modern society. However, the ethical challenges of viral challenges for Christian life reveal issues of misguided self-existence, social pressure, and the banality of sin that demand faithfulness. Therefore, the Christian theological response to viral challenge culture and its implications for Christian leadership and education in virtual spaces is important in order to provide an ethical framework, spiritual examples, and educational strategies that can correct and transform digital culture into a means of Christian service and witness.AbstrakPerkembangan budaya digital telah melahirkan fenomena viral challenge yang tidak hanya menjadi tren hiburan, tetapi juga membentuk pola pikir dan perilaku masyarakat kontemporer. Dinamika ini membawa dampak signifikan terhadap nilai moral, khususnya ketika tantangan yang beredar menormalisasi perilaku berisiko dan mengikis norma-norma kepatutan.   Fenomena viral challenge yang masif di ruang virtual memperlihatkan ambivalensi antara kreativitas positif dan potensi degradasi moral akibat menyingkirkan norma budaya dan agama. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menelaah tantangan etis dari budaya viral challenge melalui perspektif teologi Kristen serta merumuskan implikasinya bagi kehidupan iman. Menggunakan metode kualitatif berbasis studi pustaka dengan analisis teologis-etis terhadap fenomena digital kontemporer, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa budaya viral challenge dalam perspektif sosial dan digital menunjukkan bagaimana tren digital membentuk pola interaksi dan nilai baru dalam masyarakat modern. Namun, tantangan etis viral challenge bagi kehidupan Kristen menyingkap persoalan eksistensi diri yang salah arah, tekanan sosial, serta banalitas dosa yang menuntut kewaspadaan iman. Karena itu, respon teologi kristen terhadap budaya viral challenge dan implikasi kepemimpinan dan pendidikan Kristen di ruang virtual menjadi penting untuk menghadirkan kerangka etis, teladan rohani, serta strategi edukatif yang mampu mengoreksi sekaligus mentransformasi budaya digital menjadi sarana pelayanan dan kesaksian Kristen.

Abstract

The digital age is characterised by a constant and massive flow of information, causing humans to experience overstimulation that affects various aspects of life, including spirituality, faith, and mental health. Christianity faces difficulties in maintaining the depth of faith, as spiritual practices that should be contemplative and reflective are displaced by instant culture and religious digitalisation, or addiction to the internet and gadgets. Spirituality, which was once built on a deep relationship with God, now tends to be shallow and routine, lacking focus. The purpose of this study is to analyse the urgency of the church's role in shaping authentic Christian spirituality amidst the conditions of digital overstimulation. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach, it can be concluded that digital overstimulation contributes to an unrecognised spiritual crisis. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the nature of digital overstimulation and the disorientation of Christian spirituality. Similarly, mental health and Christian spirituality must be considered within the context of both traditional depth and digital challenges. Thus, the role of the church in shaping faith in the era of overstimulation can build a contextual and contemplative model of spirituality. Therefore, contextual Christian spirituality must guide the faithful to live consciously, be fully present before God, and remain rooted in faith.Abstrak Era digital ditandai oleh deras dan massifnya arus informasi yang terus-menerus, menyebabkan manusia mengalami overstimulus sehingga memengaruhi berbagai aspek kehidupan, termasuk spiritualitas, iman dan kesehatan mental. Kekristenan menghadapi kesulitan mempertahankan kedalaman iman, karena praktik-praktik rohani yang seharusnya kontemplatif dan reflektif tergeser oleh budaya instan dan digitalisasi religius atauapun kecanduan internet maupun gadget. Spiritualitas yang dulunya dibangun dalam relasi mendalam dengan Allah kini cenderung dangkal dan rutinitas yang tidak fokus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis urgensi peran gereja dalam membentuk spiritualitas Kristen yang nyata di tengah kondisi overstimulus digital. Menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa overstimulus digital berkontribusi terhadap krisis spiritual yang tidak disadari. Maka itu perlu memahami Hakikat overstimulus digital dan disorientasi spiritualitas kristen. Begitu juga dengan kesehatan mental dan spiritualitas kristen diantara kedalaman tradisi dan tantangan konteks digital. Sehingga peran gereja dalam pembentukan iman di era overstimulus dapat membangun model spiritualitas kontekstual dan kontemplatif. supaya Spiritualitas Kristen yang kontekstual harus menuntun umat untuk hidup secara sadar, hadir utuh di hadapan Allah, dan tetap berakar dalam iman.

Abstract

Contemporary society lives in an increasingly complex multicultural dynamic, where social interaction is expanded and accelerated through the development of digital technology. This condition not only presents opportunities for cross-cultural encounters, but also gives rise to conflicts that are often triggered by differences in identity, intolerance, and social polarisation. The Church is required to play an active role in contextual pastoral ministry and transformative public ethics. The phenomena that support this reality are evident in the increase in religious and cultural conflicts in the digital space, which affect communal life in multicultural societies. The purpose of this study is to analyse and examine the integrative role of Christian pastoral ministry and public ethics in building peace and reconciliation in multicultural-digital societies. Using qualitative research methods with a literature study approach, it can be concluded that the essence of Christian pastoral care integrated with public ethics emphasises the importance of holistic ministry that is not limited to the church space but is actively present in the life of a multicultural-digital society. Through this approach, Christian pastoral care can function as an agent of reconciliation that promotes public moral values, while responding to ethical challenges that arise in the digital age. The actualisation of practical theology that combines pastoral care and public ethics is thus able to present a paradigm of service for the creation of just and sustainable peace.AbstrakMasyarakat kontemporer hidup dalam dinamika multikultural yang semakin kompleks, di mana interaksi sosial diperluas dan dipercepat melalui perkembangan teknologi digital. Kondisi ini tidak hanya menghadirkan peluang bagi perjumpaan lintas budaya, tetapi juga memunculkan konflik yang sering kali dipicu oleh perbedaan identitas, intoleransi, dan polarisasi sosial. Gereja dituntut untuk berperan aktif dalam pelayanan pastoral yang kontekstual dan etika publik yang transformatif. Fenomena yang mendukung realitas ini tampak jelas dalam meningkatnya konflik berbasis agama dan budaya di ruang digital, yang memengaruhi kehidupan bersama dalam masyarakat multikultural. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mengkaji peran integratif pastoral Kristen dan etika publik dalam membangun rekonsiliasi perdamaian di tengah masyarakat multikultural-digital. Menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa hakikat pastoral Kristen yang terintegrasi dengan etika publik menegaskan pentingnya pelayanan holistik yang tidak terbatas pada ruang gerejawi, melainkan hadir aktif dalam kehidupan masyarakat multikultural-digital. Melalui pendekatan ini, pastoral Kristen dapat berfungsi sebagai agen rekonsiliasi yang mengedepankan nilai-nilai moral publik, sekaligus menjawab tantangan etis yang muncul di era digital. Aktualisasi teologi praktis yang menggabungkan pastoral dan etika publik dengan demikian mampu menghadirkan paradigma pelayanan bagi terciptanya perdamaian yang berkeadilan dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Radicalism developing within religious educational institutions poses a serious threat and challenge to social life and harmony. Religious institutions, which should serve as spaces for character building and spirituality, have the potential to become fertile ground for the spread of extremist ideologies and hatred. The failure to integrate universal human values and theology that respects others is one of the main causes of the weakness of religious organisations. Moreover, the phenomenon of increasing intolerance among the younger religious generation shows a crisis in moral leadership and education based on religious teachings. This study aims to examine the strategic role of Christian leadership and human rights education as a theological approach to countering radicalism in religious educational institutions. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on literature review, it can be concluded that the role of Christian leadership theology as the foundation of anti-radicalism and human rights education from a Christian theological perspective are interdependent elements that must be integrated, encompassing both Christian leadership and human rights education. This serves as a preventive theological strategy, thereby presenting both the value of implementation and the challenges of theological strategy within religious educational institutions.

Abstract

Transhumanism promises a life without limits, enhanced intelligence, and even immortality, increasingly influencing Generation Z's perspective in shaping their identity and spirituality. This study aims to analyze the influence of transhumanist narratives on Generation Z's worldview within the context of their identity as God's creation, and to develop relevant theological reflections to strengthen Generation Z's faith formation amid the challenges of digital culture and contemporary technological ideologies. A qualitative research method based on literature review was used in this study, exploring theological sources, the Bible as the primary source, books, articles, and internet websites. The results of the study indicate that transhumanism obscures the essence of humanity as God's creation, reduces spiritual identity to a mere technological enhancement project, and offers false salvation outside of Christ's redemptive work. Theological reflection rooted in the doctrines of creation, the incarnation of Christ, and the resurrection affirms that human identity is determined by one's relationship with God, not by technological autonomy. This study concludes that the church and Christian faith education must be present in a contextual and prophetic manner in guiding Generation Z to reject the transhumanist narrative and grow in true faith. AbstrakTranshumanisme menjanjikan kehidupan tanpa batas, peningkatan kecerdasan, dan bahkan keabadian, yang kian memengaruhi cara pandang Generasi Z dalam membentuk identitas diri dan spiritualitas mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh narasi transhumanisme terhadap pola pikir Generasi Z dalam konteks identitasnya sebagai ciptaan Allah, serta menyusun refleksi teologis yang relevan untuk memperkuat formasi iman Generasi Z di tengah tantangan budaya digital dan ideologi teknologi masa kini. Metode penelitian kualitatif berbasis studi pustaka digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan mengeksplorasi sumber-sumber teologi, Alkitab sumber utama, buku, artikel dan website internet. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa transhumanisme mengaburkan hakikat manusia sebagai ciptaan Allah, mereduksi identitas spiritual menjadi proyek peningkatan teknologis semata, dan menawarkan keselamatan palsu di luar karya penebusan Kristus. Refleksi teologis yang berakar pada doktrin penciptaan, inkarnasi Kristus, dan kebangkitan, menegaskan bahwa identitas manusia ditentukan oleh relasi dengan Allah, bukan oleh otonomi teknologi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa gereja dan pendidikan iman Kristen harus hadir secara kontekstual dan profetis dalam membimbing Generasi Z agar mampu menolak narasi transhumanisme serta bertumbuh dalam iman yang sejati.Kata Kunci: Teknologi, Transhumanisme, Generasi Z, Imago Dei, Kristus

Abstract

Advanced digital and communication technologies have brought about significant changes in the fields of education and spirituality. However, behind the ease of access to information and communication lies a serious issue: a mental health crisis among students who are addicted to digital devices. This has led to many of them feeling spiritually exhausted and even experiencing emotional burnout. Religious education, which has traditionally focused on cognitive aspects, is deemed insufficiently responsive to the spiritual needs of students. This study aims to reconstruct a Christian religious education approach grounded in theology to facilitate spiritual recovery through digital detoxification practices. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature review approach. It can be concluded that digital detoxification can be an effective spiritual tool in freeing students from the pressures of digital addiction. Therefore, understanding the digital era and the mental health crisis among students must be prioritised. Furthermore, the concepts of theology and spirituality of recovery in Christian education must be able to detoxify digital as a process of Christian spirituality. Thus, this can reconstruct and integrate the Christian religious education curriculum in spiritual recovery.AbstrakTeknologi digital dan komunikasi yang sangat maju telah menciptakan perubahan besar dalam ruang pendidikan dan spiritualitas. Namun, di balik kemudahan akses informasi dan komunikasi, muncul persoalan serius berupa krisis kesehatan mental di kalangan naradidik yang mengalami kecanduan digital. Yang mengakibatkan banyak dari mereka jenuh dan teransing secara spiritual bahkan tekanan kelelahan emosional. Pendidikan agama yang selama ini berfokus pada aspek kognitif dinilai belum cukup responsif dalam menjawab kebutuhan spiritual peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merekonstruksi pendekatan pendidikan agama Kristen berbasis teologi dalam rangka memfasilitasi pemulihan rohani melalui praktik detoksifikasi digital. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa detoksifikasi digital dapat menjadi sarana spiritual yang efektif dalam membebaskan siswa dari tekanan kecanduan digital.  Oleh karena itu pemahaman akan era digital dan krisis kesehatan mental siswa harus diperhatikan. Terlebih konsep dan  teologi dan spiritualitas pemulihan dalam pendidikan kristen harus bisa mendetoksifikasi digital sebagai proses spiritualitas kristen. Sehingga hal ini dapat merekonstruksi dan integrasi kurikulum pendidikan agama kristen dalam pemulihan rohani

Abstract

Abstract: The sandwich generation phenomenon refers to adults who are caught between the obligations of caring for their aging parents and raising their own children. This situation creates complex pressures, including financial, emotional, and social aspects. This article aims to examine the double burden faced by the sandwich generation from a Christian ethical perspective using a qualitative method based on a literature review. The Bible emphasizes the importance of honoring parents and the responsibility to raise children with love as fundamental principles in family life. Christian ethics provide a normative framework so that responsibilities toward parents and children are not viewed merely as a social burden, but as an expression of obedience to God. The principles of love, justice, stewardship, and Christian spirituality serve as a practical foundation for balancing roles in the nuclear family without neglecting intergenerational obligations. Thus, the application of Christian ethics is expected to help the sandwich generation live a more balanced, meaningful life in accordance with God's will.
