Abstract

Hadith occupies a crucial position in Islamic scholarship as the second source of law after the Qur'an. The authenticity and validity of hadith have been a primary concern for scholars from the early generations of Islam to the contemporary era. This study aims to explain the classification of hadith based on their quality levels, namely authentic, hasan, da'if, and mawdhū' hadith, along with their implications for educational and da'wah practices. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to various classical and modern literature on hadith. The results show that authentic and hasan hadith can be used as evidence in establishing laws and practices, while da'if hadith can only be used in fadha'ilul a'mal under certain conditions, and mawdhū' hadith must be completely rejected. Understanding this classification of hadith is important so that educators and da'i can convey Islamic teachings authentically and scientifically, and avoid deviations due to the use of weak or fabricated hadith.

Abstract

As the second source of Islamic teachings after the Qur'an, the Hadith holds a central position in shaping the laws, morals, and outlook on life of Muslims. Entering the global era, the study of Hadith faces both new challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, Orientalist criticism since the 19th century has opened up space for academic discussion, but often clashes with Islamic epistemology. Scholars' responses to this criticism have not only been defensive but also methodological innovation, the digitization of Hadith, and the strengthening of digital literacy. Another challenge arises from the currents of globalization, which have triggered the spread of fabricated Hadith, the reduction of context, and the commodification of religion, thus demanding increased literacy and communication ethics in the dissemination of Hadith. Furthermore, Hadith education plays a crucial role in strengthening interfaith dialogue in Indonesia's multicultural society by emphasizing universal human values. The prospects for Hadith studies in the global era are increasingly open through digitalization, strengthening academic programs, and interdisciplinary approaches that make Hadith more contextual and relevant to modern issues. With a strong tradition of Islamic scholarship and the experience of living in diversity, Indonesia has a significant opportunity to become a center of reference for the development of Hadith studies globally.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of hadith in shaping the character and morals of students and its relevance to character education in Indonesia. As the primary source of Islamic teachings, hadith provides a strong moral foundation, particularly in the aspects of honesty, trustworthiness, compassion, and social concern. By examining various hadiths on noble morals, hadith-based character education is believed to be able to provide solutions to the moral crisis facing modern society. The research method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach, namely reviewing literature, hadith books, and relevant previous research. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of hadith in character education is not only normative but also applicable in building a generation with noble morals. This article emphasizes the importance of integrating hadith into the curriculum of Islamic education and general education to strengthen character education in the era of globalization.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a significant impact on various areas of life, including Islamic studies, particularly the study of hadith. Digitization has opened up broader and faster access to hadith sources previously available only in print. Through various digital platforms such as Maktabah Syamilah, Kutub Tis'ah Digital, and the Hadith Encyclopedia, researchers, educators, and the general public can now easily browse and study hadith. This study aims to identify the advantages and challenges of using hadith applications in the digital era and describe the process of verifying sanad and matan (transmitted texts) in a modern context. The results show that digitizing hadith provides ease of access, research efficiency, and the preservation of classical Islamic literature. However, on the other hand, various challenges arise, such as the validity of digital sources, incomplete verification standards, and the potential for the spread of false hadith due to weak scientific control. Therefore, an integrative approach between classical hadith methodology and digital technology is needed to maintain the authenticity of sanad and matan (transmitted texts), and to enable hadith science to continue to develop in line with the demands of the times.

Abstract

Hadith constitutes the primary source of Islamic teachings after the Qur’an and plays a central role in shaping the theological, moral, and social foundations of the Muslim community. However, issues concerning the authenticity and validity of hadith have long been subjects of debate among both classical scholars and modern academics. Therefore, the classification of hadith serves as an essential instrument for assessing the validity and credibility of a hadith. This study aims to examine the criteria for hadith classification—namely sahih, hasan, da‘if, and maudhu‘—and to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each category. This research employs a qualitative approach based on literature analysis by reviewing various classical and contemporary sources. The findings indicate that sahih hadith possess a continuous chain of transmission, narrators who are upright (‘adl) and precise (dhabit), and are free from defects (‘illat) and irregularities (shudhudh). Hasan hadith share similar characteristics with sahih hadith, although the narrators’ level of precision is relatively lower. Da‘if hadith are considered weak due to defects in their chain of transmission or text, while maudhu‘ hadith are fabricated narrations deliberately created. This study emphasizes that hadith classification is not only crucial for the science of hadith but also has significant implications for Islamic education and da‘wah practices. A proper understanding of hadith classification will assist educators and preachers in conveying authentic, systematic, and responsible Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This study explores the position of hadith within the pesantren educational system, focusing particularly on the kitab kuning tradition, the methods of talaqqi and musyāfahah, the role of the kiai as the authoritative bearer of scholarly sanad, the pesantren’s value system rooted in prophetic teachings, and the integration of hadith studies into the modern pesantren framework. Employing a library research approach, the study examines key concepts and findings from a range of relevant scholarly works. The analysis demonstrates that hadith constitutes both the epistemological and spiritual foundation of pesantren education. It functions not only as a source of legal and moral guidance but also shapes the distinctive modes of knowledge transmission and educational ethos within the pesantren tradition. Modern pesantren, in turn, strive to integrate hadith studies into contemporary educational structures while preserving the authenticity of the sanad-based tradition. In this way, hadith serves as the intellectual and spiritual core that sustains the continuity of knowledge, ethical conduct, and Islamic spirituality in the pesantren milieu.

Abstract

This research examines the utilization of Hadits in pembelajaran pesantren as the foundation for forming the Islamic character of students. Hadits serves as the main basis for kitab kuning such as Riyadhus Shalihin and Bulughul Maram, taught through memorization, talaqqi, and musyafahah methods that maintain the authenticity of scholarly chains, with the central role of the kiai as both a model and authority in transmission. The values of Hadits like humility (tawadhu), discipline, and brotherhood (ukhuwah) are internalized in worship ethics, education, social interactions, and the students' environment through the living practice of Hadits. Amid modernization, pesantren integrate Hadits studies with formal curricula, digital technology, and contemporary approaches to ensure relevance in the global era. This qualitative library-based approach affirms that pesantren are adaptive in preserving tradition while facing contemporary challenges.
