Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in leadership styles and performance between definitive school principals and Acting (PLT) principals in public schools in Sukorejo District, Pasuruan Regency. The main focus of this research is to identify how the difference in leadership status affects decision-making, management stability, and the effectiveness of school program management. Theoretically, this research is based on transformational and instructional leadership concepts, which are believed to play an essential role in improving the quality of learning and student achievement. Based on the qualitative data analysis obtained from interviews and observations, it was found that definitive school principals have a more stable and consistent leadership style and are more flexible in planning long-term programs. On the other hand, Acting principals face limitations in authority and tenure, which affects their ability to make strategic decisions. These findings indicate that the stability of a definitive principal’s leadership is directly related to successful management and consistent educational outcomes in schools. This research is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the differences in principal status and its impact on the effectiveness of school management.

This research is driven by the urgent need to address moral degradation among students by integrating local wisdom into the character education framework. The study aims to analyze the role of teachers in managing character education based on local wisdom through a multi-site study at SDN Ledug 1 and its affiliated sites. Specifically, it examines how teachers plan, implement, and evaluate character-building activities that laverage indigenous values  to foster student integrity and cultural identity. A qualitative approach with a multi – site study design is employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-dept interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis. Data validity is ensured through source and method triangulation, while cross-site analysis is used to identifty patterns in teacher roles across different contexts. The findings are expected to reveal that teachers act as role models, motivators, and evaluators who successfully bridge traditional values with modern pedagogical prctices. This management process creates a synchronized educational environment where local wisdom serves as the primary foundation for student behavior. The results of this study are intended to provide a strategic model for schools to strengthen character education by optimizing the professional role of the teacher within a culturally relevant management system.

Abstract

The performance of elementary school teachers is a key factor in determining the quality of learning. However, the practice of academic supervision in schools is still largely administrative and has not fully functioned as reflective professional development. This study aims to analyze the implementation of clinical supervision with a lesson study approach to improve the performance of elementary school teachers and to understand the meaning of teachers’ reflective experiences during the supervision process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects include the principal and elementary school teachers directly involved in clinical supervision based on lesson study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document studies, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation to maintain data validity. The results of the study show that clinical supervision with lesson study was carried out collaboratively through the stages of planning, implementation, and joint reflection. The reflection process encouraged teachers to critically recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their teaching practices. Changes in teacher performance were not only demonstrated by improvements in lesson planning and teaching strategies but also by the development of reflective awareness and professional commitment. This study concludes that the integration of clinical supervision and lesson study is an effective strategy for sustainable professional development of teachers. The novelty of this study lies in revealing the meaning of teacher reflection as the core of performance change in clinical supervision based on lesson study.
