Abstract

Primary school children are a vulnerable age group that requires adequate nutritional intake to support physical growth and cognitive development. However, many children do not bring snacks from home and choose to buy snacks in the school environment, which often do not meet safety and nutrition standards. This study aims to improve the knowledge of students in grades 4-6 at SDN 07 Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, about healthy snacks through counseling. The methods used were lectures and question and answer discussions, followed by anthropometric measurements, pretest, posttest, and distribution of healthy snacks. This activity involved 35 students and showed an increase in knowledge about healthy snacks, with the percentage of students who had very good knowledge increasing from 68% before counseling to 82% after counseling. These results are in line with previous research that shows the importance of knowledge about healthy food as an internal factor that affects the consumption of healthy snacks. Thus, counseling on healthy snacks is expected to increase students' awareness and understanding of the importance of choosing nutritious and safe food for their health.

Abstract

The problem of nutritional imbalance in school-aged children remains a serious concern in Indonesia. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), only 6.6% of children aged 5–12 years consumed the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables. Education about balanced nutrition through visual approaches such as "Isi Piringku" (My Plate) is important from an early age to improve nutritional literacy. This community service activity aims to improve students' understanding of the concept of a healthy plate at SDN 07 Kramat Pela, South Jakarta. The majority of students (56.2%) were female. In terms of nutritional status, the majority (53.3%) were underweight. Therefore, nutrition education is crucial for improving knowledge and is expected to be applied in daily life. The methods used included lectures, interactive discussions, demontration, visual media (posters, leaflets, food models), and educational games. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-tests. The results showed an increase in knowledge, with the "good" category increasing from 46.8% to 74.2%, and the median score increasing from 70 to 80. Education based on visual and participatory approaches has proven effective in improving children's understanding of balanced nutrition. This intervention is recommended for continuous implementation in elementary schools to foster long-term healthy eating habits.

Abstract

Breakfast is a eating activity that is consumed in the morning, which is less than 1/3 of the food consumed in a day with the required calorie range of 300-500 Kcal. Based on data from Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018, as many as 26% of Indonesian children only consume drinks such as water, milk, and tea at breakfast time. Knowledge and attitude are one of the factors that influence children to eat breakfast. Efforts that can be made to improve children's knowledge are by providing education. This service activity aims to increase the understanding of students of SDN 07 Kramat Pela, South Jakarta, about breakfast activities. The educational media used includes animated videos, posters and leaflets. The evaluation of the education provided was measured using pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results show. There was a consistent result of knowledge in the good category of 97.0% in the pretest and posttest scores. The pretest results showed 3.0% in the less category, and in the posttest results there were no results in the less category.
