Abstract

One approach that can be used is the study of hadith with the approach of the science of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah. 'Abdullah bin Bayyah as one of the scholars who concentrates in the field of maqāṣid certainly has a theory that can be applied, especially his very well-accepted figure in the Eastern and Western worlds. This study aims to describe how the science of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah in the approach of 'Abdullāh bin Bayyah is used to understand the hadith of the Prophet, as well as simple applications that can be carried out. The method used by the researcher is qualitative with the type of library research that makes the book Masyāhid min al-Maqāṣid the main data source, which is then supported by other data sources. The application that the researcher does is on the study of the hadith about seeking treatment with ḥabbat al-saudā'. The research results reveal that after being studied with the maqāṣid approach, the hadith of ḥabbat al-saudā' has the understanding that the main purpose of the hadith is the command to protect oneself or ḥifẓ al-nafs by seeking treatment, and the derivative purpose is that protecting oneself can be done by seeking treatment, resting, eating and drinking nutritious food, exercising, and all things that are in accordance with the needs of each individual for himself. This is because the hadith is general in nature and the Prophet said it based on observations of one of the companions who was sick, then he recommended that medicine.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the social actions that occur during the Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī khatam event organized by the Jombang branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU). The study adopts Max Weber's perspective on social action as its analytical approach, using four of his theories: traditional, affective, rationality, and value orientation. The research methodology used is qualitative, with interviews as the data collection method. Additionally, a literature review is conducted to uncover historical data on the tradition of khatam Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī in Islam and the opinions of scholars (ulama). The research findings indicate that the Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī khatam activities of PCNU Jombang continue to exist due to four factors. First, these activities are a manifestation of the respect and preservation of traditions practiced by scholars in Islam and the NU organization itself. Second, the activities can evoke emotional responses from the participants because they share a common goal and are influenced by the presence of respected religious leaders (Kyai) who contribute to the emotional atmosphere. Third, the activities are consistently carried out because the participants possess the capacity to engage in them rationally. Fourth, all participants believe that these activities hold significant and beneficial values, which are highly anticipated by everyone involved. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tindakan sosial yang terjadi dalam acara Khataman Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī yang diselenggarakan oleh Pengurus Cabang Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Jombang. Penelitian ini mengadopsi perspektif Max Weber tentang tindakan sosial sebagai pendekatan analisisnya dengan empat teorinya yaitu, tradisional, afektif, rasionalitas, dan orientasi nilai. Metode penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah metode kualitatif dengan wawancara dan dokumentasi. Selain itu, kajian literatur juga dilakukan untuk mengungkap data sejarah dari tradisi Khataman kitab Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī dalam Islam dan pendapat ‘ulama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan Khataman Ṣaḥīh Bukhārī PCNU Jombang selalu eksis karena empat faktor. Pertama, kegiatan ini merupakan wujud dari penghormatan dan pelestarian tradisi-tradisi yang dilakukan ‘Ulama dalam Islam dan organisasi NU sendiri. Kedua, kegiatan ini dapat menyentuh rasa emosional para pesertanya karena memiliki sebuah tujuan yang sama serta adanya figur kyai yang juga berperan dalam membentuk rasa emosional tersebut. Ketiga, kegiatan ini selalu dilaksanakan karena secara rasional para pesertanya memiliki kapasitas dalam menjalankannya. Keempat, kegiatan ini diyakini oleh semua pesertanya memiliki nilai-nilai baik yang sangat bermanfaat dan sangat diharapkan oleh semua peserta.

Abstract

This article explores the concept of ukhuwah wathaniyah (national brotherhood) as envisioned by Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari, a prominent Indonesian religious figure. It also examines the critical need for character education for students in the current era. The research employs a literature study method, analyzing Hasyim Asy'ari's works, particularly those collected in "Irsyād as-Sārī Fī Jam'i al-Muṣannafāt asy-Syaikh Hāsyim 'Asy'arī," along with other relevant documents such as manuscript books and his speeches, as well as books about him. An interpretive approach is used to understand the social and historical contexts that influenced Hasyim Asy'ari's thought, in order to unveil his concept of ukhuwah wathaniyah education. The research findings classify Hasyim Asy'ari's concept of ukhuwah wathaniyah education as consisting of politics based on Islam, a spirit of nationalism as the basis of ukhuwah wathaniyah, and a spirit of building unity as the foundation of ukhuwah wathaniyah

Abstract

KH. Syansuri Badawi merupakan salah satu guru di Pesantren Tebuireng, beliau merupakan salah satu murid Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy’ari. Salah satu peran beliau adalah kajian hadis kitab Sahih Bukhari dan kitab Sahih Muslim setiap tahun di bulan Ramadan, yang memuat metode beliau dalam kajian tersebut dari segi riwayat hadis dan dirayahnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui  metode Kiai Syansuri Badawi dalam kajian hadis baik dari segi riwayah maupun dirayah, yang sampai sekarang sangat berpengaruh bagi kelanjutan kajian hadis di Pesantren Tebuireng ini, serta bertujuan memberikan kajian ilmiyah dalam ilmu hadis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode filologi, wawancara, kajian kepustakaan, dan keterangan serta penjelasan-penjelasan yang diperoleh dengan meneliti kitab salah satu murid Kiai Syansuri yang digunakan dalam kajian, serta dari rekaman-rekaman kajian beliau, serta dari hasil wawancara dengan sebagian murid-murid beliau. Terkadang juga mencari keterangan dari kitab-kitab lain yang berhubungan dengan pembahasan. Metode kajian  Kiai Syansuri Badawi tidak hanya pembacaan kitab saja, akan tetapi di dalamnya terdapat beberapa metode pembelajaran, diantaranya metode kajian hadis dari segi riwayah dan dirayah, bahwa dari segi riwayat terdiri menjadi dari menjaga keaslian sanad Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy’ari, penjelasan per lafadz, dan metode penerimaan dan penyampaian hadis kepada para murid. Adapun segi dirayahnya terdiri dari penjelasan dan istinbath hadis menurut beliau, penjelasan beliau tentang ilmu mustholah hadis, serta metode beliau dalam ilmu Jarh wa At-Ta’dil AbstractKH. Syansuri Badawi is one of the teachers at the Pesantren Tebuireng. He is a student of Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari. One of his roles is the study of hadith from the Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim books every year in the month of Ramadan, which includes his method in the study in terms of the history of hadith and its guidance. The purpose of this study is to determine the method of Kiai Syansuri Badawi in the study of hadith both in terms of riwayah and dirayah, which until now has been very influential for the continuation of the study of hadith at the Tebuireng Pesantren, and aims to provide a scientific study in the science of hadith. This study uses philological methods, interviews, literature review, and information and explanations obtained by examining the book of one of Kiai Syansuri's students used in the study, as well as from the recordings of his studies, as well as from the results of interviews with some of his students. . Sometimes, Is also seek information from other books related to the discussion. Kiai Syansuri Badawi's study method is not only reading books, but in it there are several learning methods, including the method of studying hadith in terms of riwayah and dirayah,whicht in terms of history consists of maintaining the authenticity of the sanad of Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari, explanation per lafadz, and methods of receiving and delivering hadith to students. As for the aspect of dirayah, it consists of an explanation and istinbath hadith according to him, his explanation of the science of mustholah hadith, and his method in the science of Jarh wa At-Ta'dil.

Abstract

Taʿlīl al-ḥadīth—the critical investigation of hidden defects in prophetic reports—has been practiced since the formative period of Islamic scholarship and has undergone renewed expansion since the mid-14th/20th century. In this contemporary phase, distinct methodological orientations have emerged around leading figures such as Abū Isḥāq al-Ḥuwaynī (Salafī), Saʿīd Mamdūḥ (Ashʿarī-traditionalist), and Ḥamzah al-Malībārī (Iḥyāʾ Manhaj al-Mutaqaddimīn). This article presents a comparative analysis of their thought, utilizing library research and thematic interpretation, and highlights the methodological, epistemological, and socio-religious implications of current debates. The study argues that contemporary discourse on taʿlīl al-ḥadīth is no longer confined to technical isnād criticism but has become a site of ideological contestation and the renegotiation of religious authority within global Muslim communities. Al-Ḥuwaynī rejects tafarrod (solitary transmission) as a valid ʿillah and emphasizes strict muʿāṣarah (narrator contemporaneity); Mamdūḥ also rejects tafarrod but fully accepts ziyādat al-thiqah (trustworthy narrators’ additions); whereas al-Malībārī regards all ʿilal as potentially qādiḥah (damaging) and widens criticism to include weak transmitters. These positions implicitly respond to pressing contemporary concerns: al-Ḥuwaynī to the global spread of Salafism, Mamdūḥ to sectarian tensions and calls for social justice, and al-Malībārī to rising spiritual disorientation and permissive cultural trends. By mapping these orientations and their implications for academic scholarship, religious practice, and communal dynamics, this article highlights the need to reassess taʿlīl al-ḥadīth as both a technical discipline and a significant influence on shaping authority, orthodoxy, and Muslim public life today. The study thus contributes a critical framework for understanding the evolving epistemology of ḥadīth criticism in the modern era.
