Abstract

AbstractMarriage is related not only to the couple undergoing it but also to a process of accepting individuals as part of society, and therefore wedding planning often involves other extended parties. One of the discussions for couples and families is the location of the wedding. Even though the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) has services, supervision, registration, and reporting of marriages, it has yet to become the preferred location for conducting marriage. The method used in this study is qualitative with a netnographic approach. The data used in this study came from Twitter which was taken (data crawling) using the netlytic.org application. As many as 20,000 tweet data were collected over two weeks, from January 26, 2023, to February 9, 2023. From 20,000 tweet data, it was successfully sorted up to 9,090 tweet data discussing marriage at KUA. The results showed that the normalization of marriage in the Office of Religious Affairs has opportunities and challenges. Opportunities for normalizing marriage at the KUA include Revitalization of KUA Services, Pandemic Conditions which are becoming momentum and Changes in the People's Mindset. Abstract

Abstract

Pulau Gili Gede is a cluster of islands in the southeast of Lombok Island affected by climate change. The characteristics of coastal communities related to the ocean are influenced by weather factors, along with dependence on land for food security. This paper aims to identify climate change and food security among the coastal community of Gili Gede Island. The research method uses qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, FGDs, and documentation. The research informants come from fishermen, housewives, tourism operators, village officials, and the community. The study results show that climate change impacts the social, economic, and cultural aspects as well as the food security of the community. The interaction of dependence on the mainland for food consumption not produced in Gili Gede has increased, leading to a rise in waste volume, while waste management in Gili Gede itself remains minimal. The clean water crisis has worsened over the past 5 years, with the worst being in 2023 due to the impact of El Nino. The results of this research contribute to the development of coastal areas, particularly in the sectors of coastal community development and tourism on Gili Gede Island. These findings also provide an understanding of the portrait of food vulnerability caused by climate change, which has a domino effect on income, social relations, culture, and social inequality.

Abstract

Comfort and safety are one of the important aspects in supporting tourism development. However, this is also inversely proportional when visiting the KEK Mandalika which is a potential tourism destination on Lombok Island. This discomfort occurs because of hawkers who are considered too aggressive when peddling their wares. Through the phenomenon of hawkers in the KEK Mandalika, this study aims to see the process of interaction and relationships established between hawkers and tourists. With a qualitative phenomenological approach, the results showed that the social relations of traders are divided into two, namely between traders and traders and traders with tourists. It is this interaction between merchants and tourists that sometimes leads to negative interactions. So that in the process of interpreting meaning, it allows for negative labeling or perception given to hawkers. In fact, the interaction that is considered aggressive occurs because of several invisible factors such as the existence of certain needs or motives such as the need to spend merchandise to be deposited with distributors.

Abstract

The 2024 general election positions Generation Z as a major electoral bloc (33.6% of voters), yet their engagement is often perceived as apathetic. This study examines the motivations of Gen Z’s political participation and their relationship with participation typologies. A mixed-methods convergent design was applied, involving 200 Mataram University students. Quantitative data from questionnaires were analyzed using cross-tabulations, chi-square tests, and ordinal logistic regression, while qualitative data from open responses were thematically coded. Findings show that most respondents were spectators (57%), followed by critics (22%), gladiators (11.5%), and apathetic (9.5%). Idealistic motives (especially voice matters, policy change, and political education) were dominant. Chi-square tests revealed significant links between several idealistic factors and active participation, but in regression only political identity (B = –1.356, p = .005) consistently predicted critic and gladiator roles. Pragmatic motives (e.g., economic reward, mobilization) appear in narratives but lose significance in multivariate tests, indicating their role as situational triggers rather than structural drivers. These results highlight a paradox: Gen Z’s participation is grounded in idealism yet negotiated within pragmatic realities. Politics for Gen Z thus emerges not merely as transactional, but as a space for identity, learning, and normative aspirations.

Abstract

Child Marriage remains a critical challenge in Karang Sidemen Village, Batukeliang Utara district, Central Lombok Regency, undermining efforts to improve human resource development. Its persistently high prevalence is driven in part by limited public access to information on the consequences and legal frameworks governing child marriage. As a result, the practice continues, particularly among early adolescents who have dropped out of school or are still enrolled in junior or senior secondary education. This community outreach initiative aimed to strengthen public knowledge and awareness of the impacts and legal provisions related to child marriage. The program was implemented through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation, with effectiveness measured using GU-PSPP, which demonstrates a positive and statistically significant improvement in participants' understanding of child marriage regulations and associated risks.

Abstract

Child marriage remains a persistent socio-cultural problem in Indonesia, particularly in North Lombok. Economic limitations or education factors do not merely drive this Phenomenon. Still, it is deeply rooted in the local socio-cultural structures that regulate community behavior, particularly among Generation Z. This study aims to analyse the socio-cultural construction of child marriage among Generation Z in North Lombok through the theoretical perspective of social construction proposed by Peter L Berger and Thomas Luckmann. This Research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach to unpack practices, community structures, and symbolic power embedded in local tradition. The findings demonstrate that child marriage remains socially reproduced due to the internalisation of customary traditions such as merarik, religious legitimation, social stigma related to age norms, and the persistence of patriarchal gender relations embedded within local cultural institutions. Although the internet and social media provide alternative channels of information, these platforms have not significantly shifted long-standing communal values that shape individual decisions. Consequently, the construction of marital knowledge among Generation Z emerges through the dialectical processes of externalisation, objectification, and internalisation within familial settings, community life, and digital environments. The study concludes that the prevalence of child marriage among Generation Z in North Lombok is not solely a result of individual preferences, but rather are relations of socio-cultural forces that shape perceptions, meanings, and subsequent actions related to marriage.
