Abstract

Every society will not remain in one condition only, but undergoing continuous change in its various aspects; social, economic, and political. No single society is fixed and unchanged. Therefore, it can be said that every society is changing, and always changing. The educational curriculum must be flexible and can be improved. If there are substantial changes occurring within a society, the educational curriculum needs to be reviewed so that it can go hand in hand with the change, then its value and function can serve as a correct tool for educating the children of the community. If not, then the educational curriculum will become something foreign, which is no longer suitable for the people who have undergone a change. The educational curriculum is required to give sufficient attention to the orientation of the phenomenon, the extent of its impact and its influence on people's lives.

Abstract

This article analyzes the integration of local Hindu cultural values into an Islamic education system in Bali, Indonesia. To collect the data, the researchers adopted observation, interview, and document analysis. After the data were collected, the researchers analyzed them in the light of social construction theory. The results showed that the integration could be explained well from the perspective of social construction. It started with the construction of the integration concept by the founder of the school. The moment of externalization started with the sharing of the concept. Policies on teacher recruitment, curriculum, and social disciplines would have supported the integration. Hindu teachers were recruited to teach at the Islamic school. Some subjects were enriched with points supporting the integration and a set of social disciplines was indoctrinated to the students. This objectivation moment then produced the internationalization of the concepts by the members of the school. Finally, the whole school members could accept and interact with people of other religions in a tolerant manner. The integration itself proved not only that social construction could be done in the education field, but it also gave an example of how to foster tolerance in a country of multi-religion through a multicultural education approach. This was where the research got its significance, i.e. showing the model of education suitable for multi-religious countries to foster tolerant and peaceful living.

Berger and Thomas Luckmann, this research analyzes how Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai construct a theology of marine ecosystem conservation and connect it with mangrove forest conservation. Data was collected through interviews and content analysis of lectures and religious literature through a qualitative approach. The research results reveal that Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah Kyai have formed a social construction that prioritizes theological values in the context of environmental conservation, especially marine ecosystems through mangrove forest conservation. Abstract

This article examines the exegetical hybridity in the book Tafsīr Marāḥ Labīd, a Qur’anic commentary authored by the nineteenth-century Javanese scholar Syekh Nawawi al-Bantani. By highlighting the marginalization of Southeast Asian voices in mainstream tafsīr studies, the research demonstrates how Nawawi creatively integrated classical Islamic scholarship from Ottoman-Ḥijāz networks with local Bantenese agrarian ethics. Through textual-historical criticism, comparative hermeneutics, and digital ethnography, the study reveals Nawawi’s systematic method: employing variant recitations (qirāʾāt) to produce context-sensitive legal rulings, filtering non-essential narratives (Isrāʾīliyyāt) to prioritize ethical lessons, and applying maqāṣid pragmatism to address both colonial and social injustices. This hybrid approach transformed Qur’anic exegesis into subtle resistance against Dutch land exploitation while simultaneously promoting communal welfare. Today, Marāḥ Labīd remains a living tradition within Indonesian pesantren, relevant to contemporary issues ranging from environmental stewardship and gender-inclusive ethics to social moderation and pandemic responses. The article underscores Nawawi’s legacy as a decolonial model, demonstrating that Nusantara scholarship has actively and sustainably shaped Islamic intellectual and social landscapes through adaptive fidelity to classical orthodoxy while enabling innovation in modern contexts.
