Abstract

ABSTRACT This article examines the dynamics of human environmental behavior through a behavioral approach to nature conservation efforts. The research highlights the importance of pro-environmental behavior, which can be influenced by social norms, economic incentives, and environmental education. By analyzing various studies and successful interventions applied in several regions, such as the recycling program in Surabaya and the "Bye Bye Plastic Bags" movement in Bali, this article demonstrates how behavioral change can support environmental conservation. The behavioral approach, which includes the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and social influence, is considered an effective tool for changing community habits to actively participate in environmental preservation. By utilizing interventions based on social norms, economic incentives, and educational campaigns, this research provides recommendations for more effective behavior-based environmental conservation policies in Indonesia. Keywords: Environmental behavior, social norms, economic incentives, environmental education, nature conservation ABSTRAK Artikel ini mengkaji dinamika perilaku lingkungan manusia melalui pendekatan behavioral dalam upaya pelestarian alam. Abstract

Abstract

The gusdurian network is an open movement, the gusdurian network was established in 2010 in Surabaya. This movement emerged with the aim of imitating the 9 values of Gus Dur, namely monotheism, humanity, justice, equality, liberation, brotherhood, simplicity, chivalry, and traditional wisdom. This article uses the relevance of Singh's identity theory to find out how these gusdurian networks are able to maintain their identity as a new social movement that aims to instill religious tolerance. The method used in this article is a literature review method by collecting 20 relevant articles on gusdurian tissue. The results of research from the review literature show that first, the Gusdurian network strives to continue to maintain their identity in the midst of the diversity of society as a religious movement that instills religious tolerance. second, the movement held by the Gusdurian network in an effort to instill the values of tolerance, namely the celebration of Tolerance Day, interfaith meetings, and creating content uploaded on @jaringan Gusdurian's Instagram account. In addition, the Gusdurian network strives to continue to maintain their identity in the midst of the diversity of society as a religious movement that instills religious tolerance. Thus, it can be concluded that the purpose of this paper is to introduce more widely to the public about the Gusdurian Network, to know how the Gusdurian Network can maintain their identity as an organization engaged in imitating religious tolerance, and to understand what strategies are applied by the Gusdurian Network to maintain the value of tolerance instilled by Gus Dur as the father of pluralism in Indonesia.

Abstract

Conservation in Indonesia has focused on biological indicators such as population decline and habitat loss, often overlooking the cultural dimensions that shape human–primate relationships. This study aims to integrate biological and cultural perspectives by applying an ethnoprimatological approach to reframe primate conservation. A qualitative literature review of publications from 2000 to 2025 was conducted using Google Scholar with the keywords “ethnoprimatology” and “human–primate interaction”. Thirty-four studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically within a multispecies ethnography framework. The findings reveal diverse cultural meanings attributed to primates across Indonesia: in Bali, Sulawesi, and Sumatra, primates are simultaneously revered as sacred beings and perceived as agricultural pests; in Kalimantan, Jambi, and Mentawai, they are hunted for subsistence or ritual offerings; and in West Sumatra and Java, they are domesticated and trained for labor or performance, reflecting economic integration. These cultural interpretations shape community attitudes more strongly than biological conservation status. The study concludes that effective primate conservation requires incorporating cultural taxonomies to develop strategies that are both culturally grounded and ecologically sustainable.
