Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of ineffective sentence construction found in descriptive texts written by eighth-grade students at Ibnu Utsman Boarding School Tanjungpinang. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using a linguistic analysis approach applied to 22 descriptive texts as the primary data source. The findings indicate that the most dominant errors occur at the phrase level, including the influence of local languages, incorrect use of prepositions, and word arrangements that do not conform to grammatical rules. In addition, syntactic errors at the sentence level were also identified, particularly sentences lacking subjects. The factors contributing to these errors include mother-tongue interference, limited use of standard Indonesian in daily communication, and the students’ low interest in and limited practice of writing. These findings suggest the need for more structured writing instruction strategies, such as intensive practice, strengthening understanding of spelling conventions, and implementing contextual learning to enhance students’ written language proficiency.

Abstract

Interest and ability in writing pantun among fifth-grade students were still relatively low. Students experienced difficulties in understanding the structure of pantun, selecting appropriate diction, and expressing ideas creatively in written form. This study aimed to develop an interactive learning media based on Canva with a deep learning approach for teaching pantun writing skills and to examine its practicality and effectiveness for fifth-grade students at SDN Tanah Kalikedinding II Surabaya. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, which consisted of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The development subjects included material and language experts as well as a media expert who served as validators, while the trial subjects involved the fifth-grade teacher and students. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and learning achievement tests. The research instruments consisted of expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and formative and summative assessment tests. Data were analyzed descriptively to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed media. The results indicated that the media was highly valid, with a score of 97% from material and language experts and 95% from the media expert. The practicality was categorized as very high based on teacher responses (96.80%) and student responses (99.07%). The effectiveness was reflected in the average formative score of 86 and summative score of 91, with an overall average of 89 (high category). Abstract

This study aims to describe the challenges of preserving ludruk as a traditional art form and to examine the improvement of fantasy story writing skills based on ludruk values among seventh-grade students at SMP Bina Bangsa 2 Surabaya. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis of students’ fantasy story texts. The findings reveal that, at the initial stage, most students had limited knowledge of ludruk, which resulted in weak story structure, underdeveloped imagination, and inaccurate language use in their writing. After the implementation of fantasy writing instruction integrated with ludruk through text modeling, scaffolding, and the use of digital media, significant improvements were observed. Students’ texts demonstrated more complete narrative structures, including orientation, complication, resolution, and reorientation, more creative imaginative elements, and more accurate language use. Furthermore, the integration of local culture increased students’ learning motivation, active participation, and appreciation of traditional arts. This study concludes that ludruk-based fantasy writing instruction is effective in enhancing students’ creative literacy while simultaneously supporting the contextual and sustainable preservation of local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model on the ability to read digital short stories among students at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of students regarding digital short story texts, as well as the limited use of cooperative learning models that emphasize the integration of reading activities. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: an experimental class that implemented the CIRC learning model and a control class that used a conventional learning model. Data collection was conducted through a digital short story reading proficiency test, while data analysis utilized inferential statistical tests. The results indicated a significant effect of the CIRC learning model on students’ digital short story reading proficiency. Students who participated in learning using the CIRC model demonstrated higher proficiency in reading digital short stories compared to students who learned using a conventional learning model. Therefore, the CIRC learning model has proven effective in improving digital short story reading proficiency among students at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. This study was conducted to analyze the differences in results between the experimental group and the control group. This study employed a quantitative approach with a comparative design. The sample size consisted of 36 students from two classes: with 19 students in the control group and 17 in the experimental group. Since the sample size was less than 50, the Shapiro-Wilk test was performed on the pretest and posttest data, yielding a significance level (Sig.) of 0.0061 > 0.05 for the pretest data and 0.081 > 0.005 for the posttest data in the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that the data from both the control and experimental groups are normally distributed.

Abstract

Reading is one of several language skills that students must master to facilitate their understanding and acquisition of new knowledge. Reading is typically practiced based on strong interest. The Ministry of Education and Culture initiated a drive to strengthen literacy culture in schools through the School Literacy Movement (GLS) program. The scope of the school literacy movement or GLS includes the physical school environment, facilities and infrastructure, support from all school elements, including teachers and students, and various programs aimed at increasing students' interest in reading within the educational environment. The focus of this research is as follows: first, the reading interest of eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Lumajang Junior High School during the academic year. Second, the factors that encourage and hinder the reading interest of eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Lumajang Junior High School. Third, to identify strategies to increase reading interest in eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Lumajang Junior High School. This research is descriptive. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results indicate that the reading interest of eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Junior High School Lumajang in the 2025/2026 academic year is moderate. This is indicated by the tendency to read only when there is schoolwork or teacher instructions. Students visit the library only when there is a lesson that requires textbooks and teacher instructions. Factors that encourage student reading interest include an enjoyment of novels, the active role of the principal and teachers in literacy development, mentoring in reading and writing programs, a diverse book collection, and parental support for reading habits. Factors that hinder student reading interest include laziness, the dominant use of devices for social media and online games, and an uncomfortable library. Strategies to increase student reading interest include: Creating a friendly and conducive school environment; Providing appreciation, both praise and awards, for students who read diligently and produce written works; Schools strive for a literate academic environment by allocating 10-15 minutes for reading together programs; and providing mentoring and guidance to students who read diligently and produce written works in book form.

Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low ability to write anecdotal texts, particularly in developing creative, critical, and contextual ideas related to social phenomena. Furthermore, learning remains conventional. Therefore, learning tools are needed that support meaningful, conscious, and enjoyable learning, in accordance with the characteristics of vocational high school students. This study aims to describe the development, practicality, and effectiveness of an In-Depth Learning Plan (RPM) for writing anecdotal texts in comic form using Canva. This study used the Borg and Gall Research and Development (R&D) model, modified into seven stages: needs analysis, planning, design, validation, revision, trial, and final product. The study subjects consisted of 35 grade 10 students of the KKB SMK Teknik Pal Surabaya in the 2025/2026 academic year, an Indonesian language teacher as the user of the RPM product, and a validator who was a material/learning expert. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, documentation, and learning outcome tests, which were analyzed descriptively using qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the developed RPM met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validation by material/learning experts resulted in a score of 85% and validation by teacher users at 84%, categorized as very feasible. The practicality of the RPM, based on teacher responses, reached 98% (very practical), while student responses indicated that 25 students (65.71%) stated it was very practical and 12 students (34.29%) stated it was practical. The effectiveness of the RPM, based on student learning completion, was 97.14% with an average score of 82.77, and the anecdotal comic product was categorized as good to very good. Therefore, the RPM, which uses Canva to write anecdotal comics, is suitable for use in Indonesian language learning for 10th grade vocational high schools.
