Abstract

Flood-induced health crises are one of the major problems impacting the public health sector, especially in disaster-prone areas such as Bungo District, Jambi Province. Floods often result in the spread of infectious diseases, poor sanitation, and psychological stress, so there is a need for effective health surveillance. This study aimed to evaluate the application of the JITUPASNA model in post-disaster health crisis surveillance in flood-prone areas. This quasi-experimental study used a pre-test and post-test design on two groups with a total of 57 respondents, consisting of health surveillance officers from local health centers and the Health Office. Data was collected using a questionnaire that measured the respondents' knowledge level before and after the intervention. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in respondents' knowledge, with 100% reaching a high level of knowledge in the second post-test phase. The JITUPASNA model had a significant impact on health surveillance knowledge, enabling faster and more accurate responses in post-disaster health crises. These findings underscore the potential of JITUPASNA to improve health surveillance systems, especially in disaster-prone areas where rapid response is critical.

Abstract

Background: The fast-paced digital era presents unique challenges to youth health, including gadget addiction, a lack of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS), and the risk of bullying. This community service aimed to enhance health awareness and empower children of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), parents, and teachers at the PPWNI Klang, Selangor, Malaysia, to foster a healthy and smart generation in the digital age. Method: The research employed a community-based approach, involving initial coordination with the partner and using interactive lectures and direct practice for the training. The core activities included psychoeducation sessions on mitigating gadget addiction, PHBS, and bullying, alongside basic health checks. Evaluation and monitoring were conducted using pre- and post-training questionnaires and behavioral observation. The target participants included PMI children, parents, and teachers. Result: From 48 participants attended the basic health checks, which revealed an average cholesterol level of 205.85, a blood glucose average of 107.23, and a uric acid average of 7.05. The findings indicate a prevalence of hypercholesterolemia among the participants. Conclusion: The program is relevant to the research objectives and is expected to reduce bullying rates, increase PHBS awareness, and promote more controlled use of gadgets. This collaboration with PPWNI Klang demonstrates a commitment to forging a healthy, strong, and smart younger generation capable of navigating the digital era.

Abstract

The use of social media among adolescents is increasing and has the potential to affect mental health. Junior high school students are a group that is vulnerable to emotional, behavioral, and social relationship disorders due to high digital exposure. The main problems in this study are the high intensity of social media use among students at SMP Negeri 6 Kota Jambi and the high proportion of abnormal mental health. This study aims to determine the relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents at SMP Negeri 6 Kota Jambi. This study uses acorrelative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consists of all students in grades VII–IX, and the sample consists of 101 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The independent variable was social media use, and the dependent variable was mental health, which was measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires, which were then analyzed using the Kendall Tau test. The results showed that most adolescents were in the frequent social media use category (53.5%), and most had abnormal mental health (86.1%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between social media use and mental health (p = 0.001) with a correlation strength of r = 0.321, which means a moderate positive relationship. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the social media use, the worse the mental health condition of adolescents.
