Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of plyometric training in improving vertical jumping ability in volleyball players. This research uses a literature study method by collecting and analyzing data from various relevant literature. The results showed that plyometric exercises, such as rim jumps, single jumps, hurdle hopping, and box jumps, significantly increased the explosive power and muscle strength required for vertical jumps. Factors that influence the effectiveness of this exercise include intensity, duration, and technique used. In addition, the combination of plyometric training and weight training has been shown to improve neuromuscular ability, muscle strength, and speed, which are very important in explosive movements such as blocks and smashes in volleyball. This study concludes that the integration of plyometric training in volleyball athletes’ training programs is highly recommended to improve vertical jump performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Abstract

Swimming is one of the most effective physical activities for improving physical fitness and maintaining overall health. This study aims to analyze the role of swimming in enhancing physical fitness and body health based on findings from previous studies. The research employed a literature review method by examining various scientific journals related to swimming activities, physical fitness, and health. The results indicate that swimming has a significant positive effect on improving cardiorespiratory capacity, muscle strength, flexibility, body balance, and mental health. Swimming activities have also been proven to increase VO₂Max levels, improve heart and lung function, and help reduce the risk of diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Furthermore, regular swimming exercises can enhance body endurance, reduce stress, and promote healthy lifestyle habits among adolescents and the general population. Due to its low-impact nature and minimal risk of injury, swimming is considered a safe and effective sport for individuals of all age groups. Therefore, swimming can serve as an alternative physical activity that plays an important role in maintaining overall physical fitness and body health.

Abstract

Breathing exercises are one of the training methods that play an important role in improving physiological abilities and swimming skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze and summarize various national research findings regarding the effect of breathing exercises on swimming skills. The method used was a literature review by examining  national journal articles published between 2021 and 2026. The articles were obtained through searches on Google Scholar, Garuda, and various institutional repositories using keywords related to breathing exercises and swimming skills. The analysis was conducted descriptively and qualitatively using a content analysis technique. The results of the review indicate that breathing exercises have a positive impact on improving vital lung capacity, cardiorespiratory endurance, oxygen utilization efficiency, body buoyancy control, as well as movement coordination and breathing patterns during swimming. In addition, breathing exercises have been shown to reduce anxiety in the water, increase stroke efficiency, improve body position, and support enhancements in swimming speed and endurance across various swimming styles. Commonly used breathing training methods include diaphragmatic breathing, pursed-lip breathing, hypoxic training, and pranayama-based breathing exercises. Based on the synthesis of the literature, it can be concluded that breathing exercises are an effective, safe, and economical training strategy for improving swimming skills and performance. Therefore, breathing exercises are recommended to be integrated into swimming education and training programs for both beginners and competitive athletes.
