Abstract

The high level of unemployment in North Sumatra is a serious challenge that requires attention and appropriate solutions, especially considering the social and economic impact it has on society. This research aims to analyze the influence of the percentage of poor people, the Human Development Index (HDI), and the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR) on the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in North Sumatra. This research adopts a quantitative approach using the literature study collection method. Data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). These funds are time series data for the 2011-2020 period. Researchers applied quantitative methods in this research. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression tests using SPSS 26 software. The multiple linear regression tests used by researchers included normality tests and hypothesis tests. According to research results, the number of poor people, the Human Development Index, and the Regional Minimum Wage together (simultaneously) influence the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT). Partially, the number of poor people has a positive and significant effect, the Human Development Index (HDI) has a negative and significant effect, and the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR) has a positive and significant effect on the open unemployment rate (TPT) in North Sumatra in 2011-2020.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Life Expectancy Rate (AHH), Open Unemployment Rate (TPT), and Government Expenditure in the Education sector on Human Development Index (HDI) in North Sumatra Province in the period 2010-2024. This research uses a quantitative approach with a literature study method. The data used is secondary time series data obtained from the publication of Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression with the help of E-Views 10 software. Tests were carried out through the classical assumption test, the coefficient of determination test, the simultaneous F test, and the partial t test. The results showed that simultaneously the three independent variables had a significant effect on HDI. Partially, AHH and government spending in the education sector have a positive and significant effect on HDI, while TPT has a negative and significant effect. The Adjusted R-squared value of 0.985 indicates that the model is able to explain 98.5% of the variation in HDI. This finding confirms that improving the quality of health, reducing unemployment, and investing in the education sector are important factors in supporting sustainable human development in North Sumatra Province.

Abstract

Arah hubungan menunjukkan PDRBHK_M cenderung menurunkan kemiskinan, sedangkan pelemahan Kurs cenderung meningkatkannya. Kata kunci: PDRB, Tingkat Pengangguran Terbuka, Kurs, Penerimaan Pemerintah, Jumlah Penduduk Miskin   Abstract This study analyzes the effect of Regional Gross Domestic Product at Constant Prices (PDRBHK_M), Open Unemployment Rate (TPT), and exchange rate (Kurs) on the number of poor people (JPM) in North Sumatra Province with government revenue as a mediating variable during 2001–2024. The study uses a quantitative approach with path analysis through EViews 13 and secondary data from the North Sumatra Statistics Agency. The results show that PDRBHK_M, TPT, and Kurs do not have a significant effect on government revenue or the number of poor people, and government revenue as a mediator is also insignificant. The direction of the relationship shows that PDRBHK_M tends to reduce poverty, while a weakening of Kurs tends to increase it.
