Abstract

This study examines the traditional rituals of the Baduy community related to the use of jampe and mantra as an integral part of Sundanese Wiwitan religious life. Sunda Wiwitan, as a local belief of the Baduy people, contains spiritual values, local wisdom, and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. Jampe rituals and mantras have an important role in various aspects of life, from traditional ceremonies to traditional medicine to the practice of self-protection. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods to explore the symbolic meaning, social function, and relevance of jampe and mantras in maintaining harmony between humans, nature, and Sang Hyang (God Almighty). The findings of the study show that these rituals not only reflect the cultural identity of the Baduy people but also become a medium to preserve spiritual ties with ancestors and maintain the sustainability of natural ecosystems. This research contributes to the understanding of the importance of preserving local traditions as part of Indonesia's cultural heritage and the relevance of these rituals in the context of modern life.

Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between psychosomatic therapy and happiness based on the thoughts of Ibn Sina and the Philosophy of Stoicism. Psychosomatic disorders are physical responses due to emotional stress, which in the philosophy of Ibn Sina and Stoicism can be overcome through self-transformation and soul control. Ibn Sina also emphasized the importance of tazkiyah al-nafs (purification of the soul) and the balance of body and soul in achieving holistic health and true happiness. Meanwhile, Stoicism emphasizes self-acceptance and emotional control as the key to inner peace. This research uses a qualitative method of literature with an analytical and deductive descriptive approach. Data obtained from primary and secondary texts, then analyzed thematically and comparatively. The results showed that the integration of Ibn Sina's thoughts and Stoicism in psychosomatic therapy was able to create a holistic approach to mental health, focusing on self-transformation, emotional control and balance of body and soul as a path to happiness.

Abstract

Traditional Islamic boarding schools in Banten play a central role in maintaining and developing Islamic traditions that adapt to local culture. Kiai as the leader of the Islamic boarding school not only maintains the purity of Islamic teachings but also acts as a mediator between religious values and community traditions. This study examines the response of traditional Islamic boarding school kiai in Banten to two local traditions, namely fidyah and sholawat money, using a qualitative descriptive approach and case study. This study found that the fidyah tradition in Banten has unique characteristics, such as the use of gold as a substitute for rice and the permissibility of borrowing to pay for it. Kiai provide legitimacy based on classical books such as I'anatu-t-thalibin and Nihayatu-z-zain, and also adapt their practices to social realities. Meanwhile, the tradition of sholawat money given to the congregation of the funeral prayer is seen as a form of charity and social respect. Kiai refer to the hadith about the virtue of congregational prayer and the recommendation to give charity to legitimize this practice. These two traditions demonstrate the dynamics of Islam as a living discursive tradition that continues to adapt without losing its authenticity. Kiai act as cultural brokers who connect religious texts with community practices, ensuring that traditions remain relevant and meaningful. This study contributes to understanding the role of pesantren and kiai in maintaining harmony between religion and local culture in Banten

Abstract

Debates over the nature of revelation (wahy) in Islam have long occupied a central place in theological and hermeneutical inquiry. Classical Islamic theology generally understands revelation as a transcendent and ahistorical divine communication, thereby positioning the Prophet Muhammad as a passive recipient of God's message. Although this paradigm has been effective in preserving the sacred character of revelation, it has significant limitations when confronted with contemporary questions concerning interpretive plurality, the reformulation of Islamic law, and the demands of modern human values. This article critically examines Abdolkarim Soroush's conception of revelation as the Prophet's religious experience articulated through historical and human mediation. Using a qualitative, library-based method and a philosophical-hermeneutical approach, the study explores the epistemological and theological implications of Soroush's theory. The findings show that the distinction between religion and religious knowledge, as well as between the essential and accidental elements of religion, provides a philosophical foundation for contextual and dynamic readings of the Qur'an. At the same time, the article identifies major ontological and theological challenges in Soroush's framework, particularly with regard to the status of revelation and the authority of prophethood. Soroush's thought is therefore best understood not as a replacement for classical theology, but as an epistemological corrective that enriches contemporary Islamic theological discourse.

Abstract

Modernity, along with its social, economic, and technological changes, has brought about significant transformations in people's lifestyles, including in the spiritual and social dimensions. This phenomenon often fosters tendencies toward individualism and materialism, and erodes existing social relationships. In this situation, the Sufi order, as part of the Islamic Sufi heritage, plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance between the spiritual and social aspects of human life. This article aims to analyze how the values of the Qadariyah Naqsabandiyah (TQN) Order are implemented in social interactions in modern society. This research employs a qualitative approach through a literature review method that focuses on classical Sufi literature as well as more recent academic studies. The findings of the study indicate that the core values of TQN, such as dhikr (remembrance of God), sincerity, simplicity, spiritual discipline, and social solidarity, not only serve as tools for purifying the soul but also play a role in creating social piety, strengthening community cohesion, and developing social ethics amidst the challenges of the modern era. Thus, the Qadariyah Naqsabandiyah Order remains relevant as an Islamic spiritual model that is able to adapt to changing times.
