Abstrak Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi rendahnya minat mahasiswa Program Studi Komunikasi Penyiaran Islam (KPI) Fakultas Dakwah dan Ilmu Komunikasi (FDIK) untuk mengembangkan karier sebagai tenaga humas, meskipun kompetensi kehumasan termasuk profil lulusan prodi. Penelitian bertujuan menggambarkan minat mahasiswa terhadap profesi humas, menilai persiapan karier dan kesiapan kompetensi, menganalisis kegiatan akademik maupun non-akademik yang mendukung profesi humas, serta mengidentifikasi faktor pendukung dan penghambat. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Informan terdiri dari 20 mahasiswa KPI angkatan 2017–2018 dan tiga dosen. Analisis data melalui reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan, diperkuat triangulasi. Hasil menunjukkan minat mahasiswa tergolong sedang, dengan sebagian memiliki ketertarikan awal namun belum berorientasi jangka panjang. Kegiatan pendukung profesi humas meliputi mata kuliah Public Relations, Press Release, Jurnalistik, serta praktik PDL dan kehumasan, namun kompetensi teknis dan non-teknis masih kurang. Faktor penghambat utama adalah keterbatasan fasilitas, minim praktik lapangan, dan orientasi karier mahasiswa, sementara faktor pendukung meliputi mata kuliah relevan dan dukungan dosen. Penelitian merekomendasikan penguatan kurikulum, praktik kehumasan, dan fasilitas pendukung. Kata Kunci: Minat, Mahasiswa, Tenaga Humas. Abstract This study is motivated by the low interest of students in the Islamic Broadcasting Communication (KPI) Study Program at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Science (FDIK) in pursuing a career as public relations professionals, despite PR competence being part of the program’s graduate profile. The study aims to describe students’ interest in the PR profession, assess their career preparation and competency readiness, analyze academic and non-academic activities supporting the PR profession, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants consisted of 20 KPI students from the 2017–2018 cohorts and three lecturers. Data analysis involved data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, strengthened by triangulation. Results indicate that students’ interest is moderate, with some showing initial enthusiasm but lacking long-term career orientation. Activities supporting PR include courses on Public Relations, Press Release, Journalism, and practical PR exercises. Competency gaps remain in technical and non-technical skills. Main inhibitors are limited facilities, minimal field practice, and career focus, while supporting factors include relevant courses and lecturer support. Recommendations include enhancing the curriculum, increasing PR practice, and providing better facilities. Keywords: Interest, Students, Public Relations Officer
