Adolescence is a period that is vulnerable to nutritional problems because it is still in the process of growth and development that requires nutritional intake according to needs, nutritious and balanced. Objective : This study aims to improve adolescent knowledge through the peer educator method at SMP Negeri 2 Samarinda. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : The method used is cross-sectional with a sample of 53 students. The instrument used is a questionnaire given as a pre-test and post-test before and after being given nutrition education consisting of 20 knowledge questions, 15 attitude questions, and 13 practice questions about balanced nutrition, related to balanced nutrition material. To see the difference in knowledge, attitude, and practice values before and after being given nutrition education using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed that there was a significant difference (p = 0.001) in the values of knowledge, attitude, and practice before and after being given balanced nutrition education. Results : The results showed an average increase in knowledge of 22.36 ± 14.19, attitudes of 18.51 ± 9.26, and practices of 20.81 ± 12.70. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : This shows that nutrition education training with the peer educator method is effective in improving students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices at SMP Negeri 2 Samarinda.

Abstract

Pulmonary function impairment remains a critical occupational health issue among coal industry workers due to prolonged exposure to airborne pollutants. Despite the implementation of occupational health regulations, respiratory disorders continue to be prevalent, leading to decreased work capacity and increased health risks. Identifying key risk factors is essential to developing targeted preventive measures. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between occupational risk factors and pulmonary function impairment among workers at PT X Coal Division, East Kalimantan. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 183 coal division workers selected through cluster random sampling. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires, spirometry tests, and workplace dust level measurements. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the most influential factors associated with pulmonary function impairment. The analysis identified significant associations between pulmonary function impairment and a history of other diseases (p = 0.001; OR = 11.709; 95% CI: 2.901–47.257), work tenure of ≥3 years (p = 0.032; OR = 3.319; 95% CI: 1.109–9.934), heavy physical workload (p = 0.036; OR = 2.807; 95% CI: 1.071–7.361), and inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) usage (p = 0.015; OR = 2.566; 95% CI: 1.205–5.463). Other factors such as age, body mass index (BMI), work location, dust exposure, exercise habits, and smoking were not significantly associated with pulmonary function impairment. Work-related exposures and individual health conditions play a crucial role in pulmonary function impairment among coal workers. Strengthening workplace safety measures, enforcing PPE compliance, and implementing regular health screenings are necessary to mitigate respiratory risks. Ensuring a safer work environment through targeted preventive strategies is essential for protecting workers from long-term pulmonary complications while enhancing occupational health policies in the coal industry.

Abstract

Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) are non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with a high prevalence in Indonesia, one of the prevention efforts is through the NCD institution/workplace Posbindu which aims to detect early NCD risk factors. Nutrition education plays an important role in the management and prevention of complications from both diseases. The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge of employees of the East Kalimantan Provincial Health Education and Training Center about healthy eating through counseling. The activity, which was attended by 38 employees, management staff, cleaning services and security guards, showed positive results, where the level of understanding of participants regarding the diet for non-communicable diseases increased by 26%. Abstract

Community service aims to improve adolescent knowledge with the peer educator method at SMP Negeri 2 Samarinda. The technique used is classroom action research with a cross-sectional approach. The supporting partners for this service are the principal, teachers, and 53 students. The instrument used is a questionnaire given as a pre-test and post-test before and after being given nutrition education with a total of 20 multiple-choice questions about balanced nutrition knowledge. This community service was carried out in June-August 2024. To see the difference in knowledge scores before and after being given nutrition education, the Paired Sample T-Test was used. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference (p = 0.001) in knowledge scores before and after being given balanced nutrition education. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge from 54.62 ± 15.65 to 76.98 ± 5.40 with a difference of 22.36 ± 14.19. This shows that nutrition education training with the peer educator method is effective in improving student knowledge at SMP Negeri 2 Samarinda.
