Abstract

The rising popularity of online games like Mobile Legends serves as both entertainment and a platform for social interaction. However, on the other hand, this game also has the potential to influence emotional intelligence, an important skill for prospective educators such as students of Department of Islamic Education (PAI) at University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). This study aims at analyzing the impact of the Mobile Legends game on the emotional intelligence of PAI students at UMY, with social skills as a mediating variable. This research used a descriptive quantitative approach with inferential analysis. Data were collected through closed-ended questionnaires distributed to the population (census sampling), consisting of 63 PAI students who play Mobile Legends. Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression and the Sobel test to examine direct and indirect relationships (through social skills as a mediator) between variables. The results showed that the Mobile Legends game had a positive impact on students’ emotional intelligence, both directly with a contribution of 53.61%, and indirectly through social skills as a mediator with a contribution of 44.78%. However, an unbalanced and improper intensity of play can potentially lead to negative impacts on emotional management skills. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of maintaining balanced gaming habits to maximize emotional intelligence benefits while mitigating potential risks to students' emotional well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of scientific literature on Qur’anic literacy in the digital era in Indonesia during the period 2018–2024 using a bibliometric approach. A total of 16 scientific documents were retrieved from the Scopus database and analyzed using RStudio with the Bibliometrix package and the Biblioshiny interface. The results reveal that research on digital Qur’anic literacy in Indonesia has shown an increasing trend, although the number of publications remains limited. The dominant topics include Islamic education, the use of digital media in Qur’anic learning, and the dynamics of Islam in Indonesian society. Moreover, the level of collaboration among authors and institutions is largely national, with limited international contributions. These findings suggest that Qur’anic literacy in the digital era is not merely an adaptation to technological advancement but also a form of recontextualization of Islamic values within the modern digital environment. This study provides a foundational perspective for developing technology-based Qur’anic education models that maintain the authenticity of Islamic teachings while remaining relevant to the needs of the digital generation.

Abstract

The crisis of objectivity in modern science reveals a profound epistemological problem in which scientific rationality becomes detached from ethical and human dimensions. Science, which was originally intended to liberate humanity, has often turned into a technocratic instrument that alienates it. This article aims to reconstruct the meaning of science through the perspective of C.A. van Peursen’s functional epistemology as a philosophical response to the modern crisis of objectivity. The study employs a qualitative approach using a philosophical-hermeneutic analysis to interpret Van Peursen’s ideas within the broader context of culture and contemporary knowledge dynamics. Data were collected from Van Peursen’s primary works and relevant secondary sources, then analyzed through three stages: descriptive-conceptual mapping, critical analysis, and philosophical reconstruction. The findings indicate that Van Peursen’s functional epistemology positions science as a dynamic and value-laden cultural strategy rather than a value-free system. Science is not merely a tool for empirical verification but also a means of restoring human meaning and moral purpose. The study contributes to developing a more humanistic, dialogical, and context-sensitive philosophy of science that integrates scientific rationality, local wisdom, and ethical responsibility within the Indonesian intellectual landscape.

Abstract

This study analyzes the internalization, interpretation, and practice of the Living Hadith “Afdhalul a’māl aṣ-ṣalāh fī waqtihā” (performing prayer on time) among postgraduate students of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, and identifies the influencing factors. Using a qualitative approach with a Living Hadith design, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The hadith is understood not merely as ritual duty but as a moral value of discipline and time management, shaping a religious habitus. This appears in practices such as pausing classes for prayer, scheduling studies around prayer times, and using prayer for emotional regulation. Yet, gaps persist between ideals and practice due to overlapping schedules and cultural tendencies to delay prayer. The study concludes that the vitality of Living Hadith depends on both individual awareness and institutional support aligning academic systems with spiritual values.

Abstract

The hadith on respect toward teachers occupies a vital role in Islamic education, emphasizing that proper adab is the key to the blessing of knowledge. This study aims to examine how the hadith on teacher respect is understood and practiced within the academic culture of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative approach within the living hadith framework and a phenomenological perspective, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving lecturers and students. Thematic analysis shows that the hadith is internalized as moral and spiritual ethics forming an academic habitus characterized by politeness, reverence, and moral exemplarity. The local ngajeni culture strengthens this process, aligning with Islamic ethical teachings. However, digital modernity presents egalitarian challenges that tend to weaken traditional respect. The study recommends revitalizing adab education through leadership, policy, and curriculum integration in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This research reconstructs Wilhelm Dilthey's epistemology in distinguishing Geisteswissenschaften from the dominance of positivism, examining its relevance to contemporary Big Data hegemony. The study aims to validate Verstehen as an autonomous scientific method without mimicking natural science causality. Through qualitative philosophical hermeneutics, it analyzes the dialectical relationship between Erlebnis, Ausdruck, and Verstehen. Findings indicate: (1) Human sciences' validity is grounded in temporal-qualitative Erlebnis; (2) Knowledge objectivity is attained through analyzing Ausdruck or "Objectified Spirit," rather than psychological introspection; and (3) Verstehen constitutes a rigorous cognitive procedure operating through the Hermeneutic Circle logic. The study concludes that Dilthey's epistemology serves as a corrective critique against "Dataism," asserting that human meaning complexity cannot be fully reduced to mere computational algorithms.
