Abstract

Indonesia’s rich plant biodiversity offers a wide array of secondary metabolites, including essential oils, known for their antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. This review article examines the secondary metabolite composition of essential oils from various plant species by synthesizing findings from existing literature. The review article highlights the presence of diverse compounds, including terpenes, phenols, and alkaloids, with variations observed between species—for instance, limonin in citrus, linalool in ylang-ylang, and eugenol in cloves. Commonly utilized methodologies, such as steam distillation and GC-MS analysis, discuss their effectiveness in characterizing essential oil components. The findings underscore the extensive potential of crucial oils for applications in health, food, and cosmetic industries, providing a foundation for future research and practical innovations.

Abstract

Logbook dan dokumen instruksi penggunaan alat merupakan komponen penting dalam pengelolaan laboratorium. Namun, sistem pencatatan manual yang masih banyak digunakan sering menimbulkan berbagai kendala, seperti keterlambatan input data, risiko kehilangan dokumen, serta rendahnya keterlacakan penggunaan alat dan bahan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan efisiensi dan inovasi dalam manajemen laboratorium melalui penerapan pendekatan berbasis QR Code dan Spreadsheet. Digitalisasi menggunakan QR Code dalam pengelolaan laboratorium sebenarnya bukan hal baru, karena telah banyak laboratorium yang menerapkannya. Namun, banyaknya QR Code yang perlu discan oleh pengguna laboratorium menjadi kendala dalam keefektifan penerapan digitalisasi logbook, karena terlihat kurang sederhana. Modifikasi dengan mengintegrasikan seluruh dokumen ke dalam satu sistem berbasis QR Code yang terhubung dengan Google Spreadsheet, dapat mengoptimalkan digitalisasi di laboratorium. Pendekatan ini dapat meningkatkan efisiensi, akurasi, serta keterlacakan data di laboratorium. Inovasi ini penting dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kualitas manajemen laboratorium dan tertib administrasi melalui pencatatan penggunaan alat dan bahan secara digital. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah mengaplikasikan sistem QR Code dan Google Spreadsheet untuk memonitor penggunaan alat dan bahan di Laboratorium Genetika dan Biomolekuler. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei deskriptif dengan membandingkan kondisi sebelum dan sesudah penerapan sistem tersebut. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penerapan QR Code dan Google Spreadsheet terbukti mampu mengoptimalkan digitalisasi administrasi laboratorium serta tidak menimbulkan kendala berarti dalam implementasinya.

Abstract

The growing global population, climate change, and limited agricultural land are key challenges threatening food security. One innovative solution is the development of transgenic crops, genetically engineered plants that possess superior traits such as resistance to pests, diseases, abiotic stress, and improved nutritional value. This literature review explores the historical development of transgenic research in Indonesia and other ASEAN countries, the technological approaches used—including Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, biolistic methods, and CRISPR/Cas9 - and the future prospects for achieving national food sovereignty. While countries like China and the Philippines have advanced in Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) commercialization, Indonesia remains in the research phase due to various obstacles, including limited expertise, low research funding, regulatory constraints, and public acceptance. Strengthening regulatory frameworks, human resource development, and international collaborations are essential for supporting sustainable agricultural biotechnology. This paper highlights the need for a strategic, science-based approach to integrating transgenic technology into Indonesia's agricultural system as part of its long-term food security and innovation agenda.
