Abstract

Integrated development post of non-communicable diseases (Posbindu penyakit tidak menular/PTM) is one of the strategies implemented by the MOH of Indonesia for prevention, screening, and early detection through community empowerment and community involvement in reducing the number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer. This study aimed to explore the barriers to reducing the risk of cancer. Twelve participants were involved in this study using in-depth interviews and participant observations. All the interviews and discussions were recorded using an audio tape recorder and also using field notes, and then a transcript was transcribed verbatim. Five themes emerged namely providing funding for the program, obtaining appropriate support from the government based on the community’s needs and a health workforce shortage, sharing and discussing the health information, and cultural practices of the community as barriers to reducing the risk of cancer in the community. The study results can be used as evidence to develop and sustain effective strategies to address the barriers to reducing the risk of cancer in communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the implementation and internalisation of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) values in the Sekolah-Ku program on the religious attitudes and spiritual resilience of children diagnosed with cancer. The research assumes that a contextual and empathetic approach to IRE contributes significantly to strengthening positive religious coping strategies and religious behaviour among the children. This quantitative field research involved 24 children as primary respondents, all actively participating in the Sekolah-Ku program during the data collection period. Data were obtained through participatory observation and unstructured interviews with the children, complemented by the Brief RCOPE questionnaire to measure religious coping strategies. Descriptive statistics and simple linear regression were applied to analyse the relationship between IRE implementation and the children's religious attitudes. The findings reveal a predominance of positive religious coping, reflected in children's frequent engagement in prayer, worship, and spiritual reflection to seek strength and comfort. Based on Glock and Stark's religiosity framework, the practice dimension was most prominent, followed by experience, ideological, and consequential dimensions. These results indicate that the IRE implementation in the Sekolah-Ku program effectively fosters the internalisation of religious values, encourages active religious practice, and supports children's spiritual resilience in serious health challenges. The study highlights the importance of adaptive, spiritually humanistic, and context-relevant religious education.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the number one death caused to women. The higher mortality rate is because the patients are diagnosed at the advanced stage. The cancer patients do not know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and cannot do a breast self-examination (SADARI) because the cancer education in the community is insufficient. Delaying in detecting breast cancer will delay the treatment. This research aims to explore the delay factors of early breast cancer detection. It used a literature review approach with 4 electronic databases, including Google Scholar, Pubmed, Garuda, and Perpusnas, with published years of 2015-2020. The keywords are delay factors, detection, medical checkup, treatment, and breast cancer. Of 892 identified articles, only 9 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The reviewed articles are the researcher and supervisor's discussion and validation using the Prisma Guideline. The 9 articles show delay factors of detecting breast cancer, including education, knowledge, income, information/mass media, husband/family support, health service center distance, health facilities, treatment cost, alternative treatment, age, pain, and fear. The research concluded that the 12 factors causing the breast cancer patients late in receiving treatment and already in advance stage cancer because they did not do breast cancer detection.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest smoking population worldwide, and remains the only ASEAN nation that has not ratified the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). This has led to the continuous increase in catastrophic diseases recorded every year. Meanwhile, the role of health workers, specifically nurses, is very crucial in reducing smoking behavior. Cessation is a surefire strategy to start improving public health and the environment, although the initial steps are very difficult for active smokers. Therefore, effective programs and strategies consistent with individual motivation and cultural contexts are needed to achieve optimal smoking cessation outcomes. Three active moderate smokers aged 20, 21, and 45 years followed the programs and strategies provided for 3-6 months. The results showed smoking cessation was successfully achieved. The strategies adopted, namely Self Awareness, Sounding, and Support Systems, have the potential to successfully achieve smoking cessation. The process requires a personal approach and knowledge about possible motivations, as well as smokers culture to function properly. Furthermore, strengthening is also needed as a support system to prevent a relapse.
