Abstract

Academic procrastination is a prevalent issue among university students and may undermine learning effectiveness, psychological well-being, and academic performance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination among college students. A quantitative survey design was employed, involving 33 students as the sample. Data were collected using an Academic Procrastination Scale and a Self-Control Scale administered via questionnaire, and were analyzed using correlation and simple linear regression. The results indicated a very weak association between self-control and academic procrastination (R = 0.081; R² = 0.007). The regression model was not statistically significant (p = 0.654), and the partial test also showed no significant effect (t = −0.453 < t-table = 2.039). These findings suggest that self-control was not a significant predictor of academic procrastination in the sampled students, implying that other psychological, environmental, or situational factors may play a more dominant role in shaping procrastination behavior. In conclusion, interventions to reduce academic procrastination should not rely solely on strengthening self-control, but should also consider broader determinants that influence students’ task engagement and learning regulation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of functional literacy within the community of Tanjung Rejo Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. Considering the importance of literacy as a foundation for human resource development and community empowerment, this research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to explore experiences and literacy practices in everyday life. The study involved 22 participants selected through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGD), participatory observation using various learning media (shopping lists, play money, financial records), and village documentation study. The results indicate that the Tanjung Rejo Village community possesses good literacy levels across three tiers: (1) Basic Literacy - 15 out of 22 people can read, write, and match item names with pictures; (2) Advanced Literacy - 18 out of 22 people can record financial transactions and calculate change; and (3) Functional Literacy - all 22 participants can analyze weekly income-expenditure comparisons and create financial plans. Documentation study confirms that there are no recorded illiterate individuals in this village, with all participants having senior high school educational backgrounds. These findings indicate that the Tanjung Rejo Village community has adequate functional literacy to manage daily life, particularly in household financial management aspects. This study recommends literacy improvement programs that focus more on digital literacy and entrepreneurship to optimize the potential of the already literate community.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited effectiveness of local culture introduction in early childhood education, where cultural learning is often delivered superficially without integrating local wisdom values. The objective of this research is to describe the implementation of local wisdom-based learning in introducing local culture to early childhood, identify the forms of learning activities used, and examine teachers’ efforts in enhancing children's cultural understanding. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation of classroom activities, interviews with teachers, and documentation of learning processes in early childhood education settings. The results indicate that local wisdom-based learning can be effectively implemented through various activities such as introducing traditional clothing, traditional games, local songs, storytelling, and the use of culturally relevant learning media. Teachers play a crucial role in designing contextual and engaging learning experiences that align with children's developmental characteristics. Such approaches enable children to understand and appreciate their local culture more meaningfully. Therefore, integrating local wisdom into early childhood learning is an effective strategy to foster cultural awareness, strengthen identity, and cultivate a sense of pride and love for local heritage from an early age.
