Abstract

Guidance and Counseling (BK) is one of the important components in the education system that aims to help students develop their potential optimally, both in academic, personal, social, and career aspects. At the junior high school level, BK services play a strategic role in shaping character, overcoming the problems of adolescent development, and guiding students in planning their future education. Therefore, improving the quality of BK services in SMPN 18 Jambi City is an urgent need. Efforts that can be made include opening counseling services outside of class hours, increasing the number of BK teachers in accordance with ideal standards, ensuring BK teachers have an appropriate educational background, and increase student literacy regarding the role and function of BK services. Thus, BK services are expected to play an optimal role in supporting student development, both in terms of academic and non-academic. Based on the results of research and analysis that has been conducted regarding the implementation of guidance and counseling services (BK) at SMPN 18 Jambi City, it can be concluded that BK services in this school have a significant role in supporting student academic, personal, and career development. BK services help students overcome various problems, such as low learning motivation, interpersonal conflicts, and future planning, to continue their education to the next stage.

Abstract

This article is compiled using a literature review method. Previous scientific works related to the literature review are the main sources of this research. Data collection methods include books, journal articles, internet articles, and other writings related to the subject. This study analyzes how the role of ethics and aesthetics is applied in guidance and counseling services. Understanding job talents and interests is an essential component in guidance and counseling, especially in supporting students to recognize their potential and design their future careers appropriately. Talent as a natural potential and interest as a developing psychological drive, both complement each other in the career decision-making process. The role of Guidance and Counseling teachers is very strategic in this process, through the provision of assessment services, counseling, and program development that supports the exploration of students' potential. The use of measuring instruments such as GATB, DAT, and RIASEC allows for objective recognition of talents and interests, so that guidance interventions can be tailored to the needs of each individual. In addition, internal and external factors such as the family environment, school, and parental support also have a major influence on the development of student potential.

Abstract

This study analyzes the foundation, application, and problems of school guidance and counseling teachers using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that although guidance and counseling teachers have adequate theoretical and juridical understanding based on legal foundations such as Law Number 20 of 2003 and Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 111 of 2014, service implementation still faces various significant obstacles. Service applications include classical guidance, responsive services, and individual planning implemented through interactive methods and digital technology adaptation. The main problems identified include theory-practice gaps, negative stigma toward counseling services, excessive workload due to non-ideal teacher-student ratios (more than 150 students per teacher), educational background mismatch, minimal facilities and infrastructure, time limitations, suboptimal stakeholder collaboration, and adaptation challenges facing the complexity of digital era problems such as social media addiction and cyberbullying. Comprehensive solutions are needed in the form of continuous competency improvement, increasing the number of guidance and counseling teachers, clarification of main duties and functions, socialization of professional roles, and integration of digital technology in services to optimize student development and psychological well-being.
