Abstract

Background: Decreased cognitive function is one of the impacts of the aging process in the elderly, which begins with a decrease in memory. This can also have an impact on the decline in the ability to speak, understand space, and the ability to judge and pay attention will result in inhibition of long-term memory and information processing in the elderly. If not treated properly, the decline in cognitive function can lead to dementia which results in decreased intellectual function and memory. Brain Gym is a collection of movement exercises that increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, and stimulate the right and left brain to improve concentration and memory. Objectives: To determine the effect of Brain Gym on improving cognitive function in elderly people at risk of dementia at PSTW Budi Mulia 1. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 18 people who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measuring instrument used MMSE. Results: Of all the research objects, the average result of cognitive function before intervention was 17.94 and after intervention 24.72. Hypothesis testing shows there is an effect of Brain Gym on improving cognitive function. Conclusion: Brain Gym has an effect on improving cognitive function in elderly people with dementia risk at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1. Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor for stroke, contributing to atherosclerosis and narrowing of blood vessels. Physical activity, such as walking exercise, can enhance fat metabolism and improve lipid profiles, thereby reducing cholesterol levels. Walking is an inexpensive, accessible, and effective physiotherapy intervention for improving cardiovascular health. Objectives: To examine the effectiveness of walking exercise in reducing cholesterol levels in individuals at risk of stroke in Kampung Cibulan, Tangerang. Methods: This study applied a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 10 participants were selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of walking exercise three times per week for eight weeks. Cholesterol levels were measured before and after the intervention using Point of Care Testing (POCT). Results: The average cholesterol level decreased from 256,1 mg/dL before the intervention to 237,0 mg/dL after. The Paired Sample T-Test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention. Conclusion: Walking exercise significantly reduces cholesterol levels in individuals at risk of stroke and can serve as a non-pharmacological strategy for stroke prevention. Abstract

Pregnancy in adolescence has a high risk for the health of the mother and fetus, one of which is caused by an imbalance in nutritional intake. Pregnant adolescents often do not understand the increased nutritional needs during pregnancy, and are still influenced by physical complaints such as nausea and cultural beliefs related to food taboos. Explaining the fulfillment of balanced nutrition in adolescent pregnancy in the Kalibaru Village Health Center area, North Jakarta. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The main informants were five pregnant adolescents aged 17–19 years, and supporting informants consisted of families, cadres, and midwives. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman method. Pregnant adolescents generally eat three meals a day with snacks, with a variety of foods such as vegetables, fruits, fish, and milk. However, nausea in the first trimester is a major obstacle in fulfilling nutrition. In addition, some informants continue to consume foods that are considered taboo due to a lack of understanding of the risks or benefits of these foods. Fulfilling the nutrition of pregnant adolescents still faces challenges from both physical factors (nausea) and socio-cultural factors. Evidence-based nutrition education and assistance involving families and health workers are needed.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Gross motor skills greatly affect the development of children. If a child experiences motor delays, then the child will experience developmental and growth delays (Permana, 2013). In minimizing errors in meaning (miss understanding), children need to develop pragmatic aspects so that their language skills develop properly (Sari, 2021). Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the crawling phase and pragmatic abilities in preschool-age children at Dharma Wanita Nambakan Kindergarten, Kediri. Method: This type of quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The data collection technique uses total sampling with a sample of 30 respondents. The data that has been collected will be analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rank statistical test. Research Outcome: Based on the results of Spearman's Rank analysis test, the value of ρ (sig.) is 0.036 or the value of ρ (sig.) < 0.05, then Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted, indicating that there is a relationship between the paying phase and children's pragmatic abilities. The strength of the correlation or relationship between the two variables is in the range of 0.2 to < 0.4, which is included in the weak category. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the crawling phase and the pragmatic abilities of preschoolers at Dharma Wanita Nambakan Kindergarten, Kediri.  Keywords: Crawling Phase, Pragmatic Ability, Preschool Aged Children

Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals with stroke risk factors increasingly experience hyperglycemia, while structured physical activity such as low-impact aerobic exercise remains underutilized as a strategy to control fasting blood glucose levels. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of aerobic exercise on fasting blood glucose reduction in elderly individuals with stroke risk factors. Methods: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 20 elderly participants at Posbindu Kenanga, divided into an intervention group (aerobic exercise) and a control group (dietary education). The aerobic exercise was conducted three times a week for four weeks. Data were collected through fasting blood glucose measurements before and after the intervention using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. Results: This study showed that the mean fasting blood glucose level in the intervention group significantly decreased from 125.7 mg/dL to 104.4 mg/dL (p = 0.004). In contrast, the control group exhibited a slight increase from 133.9 mg/dL to 134 mg/dL (p = 0.934). The intergroup comparison revealed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of aerobic exercise on fasting blood glucose reduction compared to the control group. Conclusions: This study concludes that aerobic exercise effectively reduces fasting blood glucose levels in elderly individuals at risk of stroke. Physical activity, such as aerobic exercise, improves insulin receptor sensitivity and enhances glucose utilization by active muscles, contributing to reduced blood glucose levels. Structured physical exercise and education are recommended as preventive strategies for managing stroke risk in elderly populations.
