Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to the integration of AI tools like ChatGPT into various sectors, including education. One of the most promising applications is the use of AI as a virtual assistant to enhance student collaboration and learning experiences. Traditional education methods often struggle to foster effective collaboration among students, particularly in large, diverse classrooms. This study aims to explore the role of ChatGPT as a virtual assistant in increasing student collaboration and enhancing the learning process. The primary objective is to evaluate how ChatGPT can assist students in collaborative learning tasks, promote peer interaction, and provide personalized support. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The study involved 150 students from different academic disciplines, who were introduced to ChatGPT as a collaborative tool for group projects. Data was collected through surveys, interviews, and collaboration performance assessments. The results indicate that ChatGPT significantly improved student collaboration, with students reporting increased interaction, engagement, and productivity during group tasks. Additionally, ChatGPT’s personalized assistance helped students overcome knowledge gaps and foster a collaborative learning environment. This study concludes that ChatGPT can be an effective virtual assistant in enhancing student collaboration and improving overall learning outcomes, offering valuable insights into AI’s potential in education.

Abstract

Background. The integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) into education has gained significant attention for its potential to foster students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Purpose. STEM-based learning emphasizes hands-on, inquiry-driven approaches that encourage students to engage in real-world applications of knowledge. However, the impact of STEM-based learning on students’ critical thinking skills remains a subject of debate. Method. This study investigates the influence of STEM-based learning on the development of critical thinking skills among high school students. The research employs a quasi-experimental design, with one group of students receiving STEM-based instruction and another following a traditional curriculum. Pre- and post-assessments of critical thinking skills were conducted using standardized critical thinking tests. Results. The findings reveal that students in the STEM-based learning group showed significant improvements in their critical thinking abilities, particularly in areas such as analysis, evaluation, and problem-solving. In contrast, the traditional curriculum group showed little to no improvement. Conclusion. The study concludes that STEM-based learning has a positive impact on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills, suggesting that incorporating STEM approaches into educational practices can better prepare students for complex real-world challenges.

Abstract

Abstract

Aggressive behavior among elementary school students is a pressing issue that disrupts the learning environment and affects students’ social-emotional development. Individual counseling services have been identified as an effective intervention to address such behaviors by targeting underlying emotional triggers and promoting self-regulation. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of individual counseling services in reducing aggressive behavior among elementary school students. A quasi-experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test control group format was employed. The study involved 60 elementary school students identified as exhibiting aggressive behaviors, divided into an experimental group receiving counseling services and a control group receiving standard classroom management. Data were collected through behavioral observation sheets, aggression scales, and interviews with teachers. The findings revealed a significant reduction in aggressive behaviors in the experimental group compared to the control group. Students in the experimental group demonstrated improved emotional regulation and conflict resolution skills, as observed in both school and social interactions. These results underscore the importance of individualized interventions in addressing aggressive behavior and fostering a positive school climate.

Abstract

The rapid and sensitive detection of pathogenic bacteria is paramount for preventing infectious disease outbreaks, ensuring food safety, and guiding clinical treatment. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel biosensing platform based on peptide-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles for the rapid, selective, and sensitive detection of a model pathogen, Escherichia coli O157:H7, in its early stages. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and subsequently functionalized with a specifically designed, high-affinity peptide that targets an outer membrane protein of E. coli O157:H7. The detection was performed using a simple colorimetric assay based on the peroxidase-like activity of the MNPs, where the signal intensity was proportional to the concentration of captured bacteria. The peptide-functionalized MNPs demonstrated a high capture efficiency of over 95% within 20 minutes. The platform exhibited excellent sensitivity with a low limit of detection of approximately 15 colony-forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL) in buffer and 30 CFU/mL in spiked milk samples. The developed peptide-functionalized magnetic nanoparticle platform is a highly effective and robust system for the early-stage detection of pathogens. Its combination of speed, high sensitivity, and excellent specificity makes it a promising candidate for the development of portable, point-of-care diagnostic tools for applications in food safety, environmental monitoring, and clinical diagnostics, addressing a critical need for rapid and reliable pathogen screening.
