Abstract

The development of the Politeknik Negeri Lhokseumawe area in Blang Mangat District, Lhokseumawe City, is expected to impact the surrounding transportation system and road infrastructure. This community service activity aims to assess the performance of several main road segments that may be affected to support smooth accessibility and traffic safety in the area. The study was conducted through field surveys with direct observation, including an inventory of road geometric conditions and manual traffic volume counts on four major road segments. The collected data were then analyzed using road capacity, degree of saturation (DS), and level of service (LoS). Results showed three road segments operated at Level of Service C (DS between 0.51 0.62), indicating stable traffic flow but approaching maximum capacity. The remaining segment was at Level of Service A (DS between 0.11 0.19), representing very smooth traffic conditions. The highest traffic volumes were recorded on the Sp. CundaBuket Rata and Buket RataCity Boundary segments, particularly during peak hours, with load capacities ranging from 1,327 pcu/hour to 3,844 pcu/hour. To anticipate the potential increase in traffic load due to future educational activities in the area, traffic management strategies were proposed, including transport scheduling, officer deployment, and control of roadside disturbances. This study highlights the importance of early planning and intervention to maintain safety, efficiency, and comfort for road users in the area.

Abstract

Bagasse ash and rice husk ash are quite smooth and have high active silica content. This forms the basis for using these ashes as substitutes for cement. In addition to being easy to find, the use of bagasse ash and rice husk ash waste is also a recent innovation to realize environmentally friendly building material technology. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of using a combination of bagasse ash and rice husk ash as a cement substitute based on compressive strength and to compare the results with previous research.  Portland cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, water, superplasticizer, and a mixture of bagasse ash and rice husk ash are the materials utilized in this study as a cement replacement. The proportion variations are 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% of the cement volume. The results of this study indicate that varying the percentage of this ash combination as a cement substitute affects the compressive strength of high-quality concrete. The most optimal compressive test results at the ages of 28 and 56 days were obtained with the 5% variation. This experienced an increase of 14.49% and 22.92% from the control concrete.

Abstract

Abstract

Good road quality is essential to ensure comfort, safety, and efficiency in transportation, yet roads are prone to damage from extreme weather, heavy traffic loads, and environmental factors. The Simpang Jembatan Lamnyong - Makam T. Nyak Arief - Cot Iri road experiences high traffic volume, resulting in damage at several points and reducing its overall performance. To address this issue, proper identification of road damage is necessary to determine suitable repair methods. This study aims to determine the difference in the level of damage using two different methods. Field data were collected through direct surveys, recording types and dimensions of damage across a 4.4 km stretch from STA 0+000 to STA 4+400, segmented every 100 meters. The results showed that SDI values ranged from 0 to 125, with an average of 64 categorized as “moderate,” while PCI values ranged from 0 to 100, with an average of 27 categorized as “poor.” Based on this comparison, the PCI method is considered more accurate, as it evaluates a wider range of damage types in greater detail. Therefore, the PCI method is recommended as the preferred approach for assessing road damage and guiding maintenance decisions on similar road sections.
