Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah organik merupakan tantangan utama di Kabupaten Sukoharjo akibat tingginya volume sampah rumah tangga yang terus meningkat setiap tahun dan berkontribusi terhadap penumpukan di Tempat Pembuangan Akhir (TPA). Tanpa pengelolaan yang baik, sampah organik dapat menyebabkan berbagai permasalahan lingkungan. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat melalui penerapan teknologi pengelolaan sampah organik guna mengurangi beban lingkungan dan menciptakan nilai ekonomi. Kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan, serta implementasi teknologi seperti komposter aerobik, lubang resapan biopori, dan eco-enzyme. Pelatihan ini membekali mitra bank sampah dan masyarakat dengan keterampilan praktis dalam mengelola sampah organik menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomi dan ramah lingkungan. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan kapasitas masyarakat dalam pengelolaan sampah organik, dengan 90% peserta berhasil mengadopsi teknologi yang diajarkan. Kendala utama yang dihadapi adalah kurangnya pemahaman awal dan keterbatasan infrastruktur pendukung, namun faktor pendorong seperti kesadaran masyarakat yang tinggi serta dukungan pemerintah daerah berperan dalam keberhasilan program. Program ini tidak hanya mengurangi volume sampah organik secara signifikan, tetapi juga membuka peluang ekonomi melalui pemanfaatan limbah. Selain itu, keberlanjutan program dapat diperkuat dengan kolaborasi antara komunitas, akademisi, dan pemerintah untuk meningkatkan efektivitas pengelolaan sampah. Keberhasilan model ini diharapkan dapat diterapkan di daerah lain yang menghadapi permasalahan serupa guna mewujudkan sistem pengelolaan sampah yang lebih berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Vegetation absorb CO₂ and store it as biomass, thus contributing to climate change’s mitigation. This study aims to estimate the biomass of tree and pole stands on several main roads in Sumber Village, Surakarta and calculate their carbon stock. The research data included primary data (tree height, DBH, and species type) and secondary data from scientific literature. Measurements were made using non-destructive sampling method, and biomass was calculated using allometric formula, while carbon stock was 50% of tree biomass. Results showed there were 15 tree species and 12 pole species. The highest biomass and carbon stock were found in the third site (302.6 Ton/ha and 151.3 Ton/ha) and the lowest in the first site (210.94 Ton/ha and 105.7 Ton/ha). The potential of pole and tree stands along the main road in Sumber Village shows the importance of good green area management in urban areas in balancing the ecosystem.

Abstract

The Putri Cempo landfill serves as the final disposal site for organic and inorganic waste. Waste from the landfill can dissolve and settle in river sediments, potentially accumulating heavy metals like iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn), which bind easily to organic matter. This study aims to determine the content of Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) in rivers around the Putri Cempo landfill. The concentration of Fe and Mn was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) referring to SNI 6989.84:2019,   with sediment sampling conducted in rivers around the Putri Cempo landfill. Sediment sampling was conducted in these rivers, revealing Fe levels of 1519.414245 mg/L and Mn levels of 130.033 mg/L. Analysis indicates that Fe concentrations exceed the established quality threshold, while Mn levels remain below it. Heavy metals like Fe and Mn negatively impact abiotic and biotic environments, including human health and agricultural productivity. Elevated heavy metal levels disrupt ecosystem balance and pose health risks, making their management crucial. Reducing heavy metals in river sediments near the landfill is essential. Remediation efforts using bioremediation and phytoremediation technologies can help mitigate these impacts. Ongoing efforts are necessary to control heavy metal contamination in river sediments, ensuring ecosystem stability and public health.
