Abstract

Tungkal Composite Jambi Liberika Coffee is one of the top qualities of Indonesian coffees that has received a geographic indication certificate (IGs). With its limited production and high prices, currently Tungkal Jambi Liberika coffee is one of the coffees that is prone to being counterfeited. The counterfeiting of Tungkal Jambi Liberika coffee is increasingly difficult to identify, especially in the form of ground roasted coffee. This study evaluated the potential application of UV spectroscopy technology to classify Tungkal Jambi Liberika coffee (with geographic indications) and normal Probolinggo Liberika coffee (non- geographic indications). A total of 120 samples for each Liberika coffee were prepared weighing 1 gram for each sample. Spectra measurements were carried out in the form of a coffee solution. Spectral data were taken using a UV-visible spectrometer with a wavelength interval of 200-400 nm (Genesys™ 10S UV-Vis, Thermo Scientific, USA). By using the average transformed spectra in the 250-350 nm interval, the differences between the two types of Liberika coffee can be clearly seen, especially at some wavelength peaks, namely 270 nm, 300 nm, 315 nm and 346 nm. The classification accuracy obtained for the SIMCA classification is 100% for both Tungkal Jambi Liberika and Probolinggo Liberika coffee. Keywords:   authentication, classification accuracy, Tungkal Jambi Liberika coffee, SIMCA, UV Spectroscopy

Abstract

In this research, the feasibility of using NIR spectroscopy coupled with forward interval partial least squares (FiPLS) regression for nondestructive soluble solids content (SSC) determination in Pondoh snake fruit was investigated. Spectra of snake fruit were acquired using a VIS-NIR USB4000 portable spectrometer in absorbance mode. The SSC was measured using a digital refractometer.  The calibration and validation models were developed using the FiPLS regression using original spectra. The result showed that the optimal combinations of 7 spectral intervals among 11 intervals which selected by FiPLS yielded good results (RMSEC = 0.854783%, rc= 0.96, RMSECV = 0.899828%, rv = 0.95).  Keywords: soluble solids content, absorbance mode, nondestructive method, snake fruit, FiPLS regression, NIR spectroscopy

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to evaluate the feasibility of using NIR spectroscopy and interval partial least squares (iPLS) regression for nondestructive soluble solids content (SSC) determination in snake fruit. Spectra of snake fruit were acquired using a VIS-NIR USB4000 portable spectrometer in absorbance mode. The SSC was measured using a digital refractometer.  The calibration and validation models were developed using the iPLS regression using original spectra. The calibration results showed that the root mean square of cross-validation (RMSECV) of first six subintervals from 582-831 nm was lower than that of the average of RMSECV and these subintervals were selected for developing final iPLS regression. Using the selected subintervals the calibration has high quality of prediction with RPD = 3,35. Keywords: NIR spectroscopy, soluble solids content, absorbance mode, nondestructive   method, snake fruit, iPLS regression

Abstract

Mushrooms are plants that have a nucleus, spores, no chlorophyll and are heterotrophic. Mushrooms can not produce their own food, they get nutrition by way of absorption. Nutrients are absorbed from the mushrooms existing in the organic material in which they live (Alexopoulos and Mims, 1996). Baglog is a media into the growth of mushrooms which comprises a mixture of basic materials such as wood sawdust, rice bran, limestone and so on. The mixture will be allowed to stand for 2-3 days so that all the materials decompose properly. All the material that has decomposed properly inserted into the plastic which will then be compacted. This media must be completely solid to support the growth of mushrooms. Compaction is done by using a press baglog mushrooms (Sunarmi and Saparinto, 2010). Keywords: mushroom baglog, two cylinder, electric motor

Abstract

Abstract

Coffee skin is a waste from green coffee production as much as 40-45% which has the potential as a source of natural antioxidants. The diversity of local Robusta coffee clones in West Lampung as raw materials for the processing of coffee products provides a variety of coffee skins which are thought to have strong antioxidant activity which is useful as a functional drink for coffee skin tea (cascara). The aims of the study werestudy aimed of the study were to identify the sweetness level of coffee cherries skin from three local coffee robusta clones (rope, huerona, and srintil), identify antioxidant activity, test consumer preferences, and calculate the added value of coffee skin tea (cascara). The research method uses DPPH antioxidant activity analysis, consumer preference test (organoleptic hedonic test), and the calculation of added valueadded value calculation using the Hayami method. The results showed that the antioxidant activity of the Rope clone had strong antioxidant activity, the cascara drink on the level of aroma, taste, and liking for cascara tea found no difference between samples based on analysis of variance, but. Still, the cascara drink from the Rope clone had a darker color. The added value generated by the cascara is IDR 27,941 per kilogram of raw materials used
