Abstract

Salmon DNA, particularly its polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) content, has attracted attention in dermatology due to its potential in skin regeneration and anti-aging applications. This review aims to summarize various research findings on the effectiveness of PDRN. The study was conducted through a literature review of articles published between 2016 and 2023. Findings indicate that PDRN works by activating adenosine A2a receptors, stimulating angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and reducing inflammation. Its combination with vitamin C and niacinamide enhances antioxidant effects and helps preserve the extracellular matrix. Furthermore, the use of long-chain polynucleotide fillers has been shown to significantly improve pore size, skin texture, wrinkles, and sagging, with minimal side effects. In conclusion, PDRN from salmon DNA is a promising bioactive agent for skin rejuvenation, wound healing, and anti-aging therapy in modern dermatological practice.

Abstract

Hyperglycaemia or high levels of glucose in the blood is the hallmark of diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) significantly impacts bone health, leading to a condition known as diabetic bone disease, characterized by decreased bone mineral density and an increased risk of fractures. This condition arises from metabolic disturbances triggered by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and inflammatory factors that compromise bone structure. Research indicates that over 35% of DMT2 patients experience reduced bone density, with approximately 20% meeting osteoporosis criteria. The pathophysiology involves several mechanisms, including the accumulation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), which hinder bone formation and increase resorption. Insulin deficiency further exacerbates this issue by impairing osteoblast function and reducing the synthesis of key bone matrix proteins like collagen and osteocalcin. Treatment options such as metformin have shown potential in improving bone health, while other medications like sulfonylureas and SGLT-2 inhibitors may have detrimental effects on bone density. Therefore, careful management of diabetes is essential to mitigate the risks of osteoporosis and fractures in patients with DMT2. Ongoing research is needed to deepen the understanding of diabetic bone disease and optimize treatment strategies to protect bone health in these patients.

Abstract

Penyakit Jantung Koroner (PJK) adalah gangguan fungsi jantung akibat adanya plak aterosklerosis pada arteri koroner yang menyebabkan otot jantung kekurangan suplai darah. Saat ini banyak mitos yang beredar tentang penyakit jantung koroner (PJK) sehingga terjadi kesalahpahaman di masyarakat. Khususnya pada masyarakat yang tinggal di desa yang jarang terhubung dengan informasi rentan tersebar mitos di kalangan mereka. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan yang baik tentang pencegahan PJK dapat mengurangi resiko PJK yang pada akhirnya akan mengurangi prevalensi PJK khususnya pada masyarakat di Desa Kaliasin, Tanjung Bintang, Lampung Selatan. Pengabdian dilakukan dengan pengukuran pengetahuan tentang penyakit jantung koroner (PJK) masyarakat Desa Kaliasin dengan pemberian pre dan post test; pemberian materi tentang PJK; dan pembahasan mitos dan fakta seputar PJK. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan penyuluhan ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat Desa Kaliasin tentang penyakit jantung koroner. Oleh karena itu, penyuluhan yang kontinu diperlukan untuk peningkatan pengetahuan secara berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: masyarakat desa, pengetahuan, penyakit jantung koroner
