Abstract

This research aimed to describe types of translation and the phenomenon of term unification in the covid-19 dictionary. This was a descriptive qualitative research with a content analysis approach. Data were collected through intensive reading of the covid-19 dictionary to find out translation types in that dictionary. Meanwhile, to gain a description of the term unification, it was done by confirming terms in the covid-19 dictionary to terms that existed in Mu’jam al-Thibbi al-Muwahhad in both printed and digital versions. The research findings indicated that the terms in the Covid-18 dictionary are the translations of English and French terms. In constructing the terms, there are several translation types. Those are direct translation with formal and semantic adjustment, literal translation with matched meaning yet different in its formal form, translation by creating new terms in the target language, descriptive translation, and the combination of translation and Arabization, Arabization and adjustment, and Arabization with no adjustment. In addition, from term unification, some categories were found, namely: standardized terms category, different from standardized terms category, unstandardized terms category, and unavailable terms in Mu’jam al-Thibbi al-Muwahhad category.

Abstract

The revitalisation of the Arabic language in Pone Village, Gorontalo, is very important given its role in the social and religious context of the community. Although Arabic is used in religious practices, the community's interest and ability in this language has decreased. One of the main causes is the lack of access to quality education and ineffective teaching methods. This article aims to improve the community's Arabic language skills through innovative educational approaches that are more interactive and contextualised. The methods used in this community service activity include a communicative approach that encourages active participation of participants, as well asintegration of local culture in learning. These activities include group discussions, recitations, and social activities that use Arabic as the medium of communication. The outcome of the programme is expected to improve participants' Arabic language skills and strengthen awareness of the importance of this language in their cultural identity. Evaluation at the end of the programme, through proficiency tests and feedback, will provide information on the effectiveness of the methods applied. By involving various levels of society, it is hoped that this programme can create an environment that supports the active use of Arabic, as well as strengthening cultural and social values in Pone village.

Abstract

This study presents information about the meaning of connotations, grammatical construction, and semantic categories of color idioms in Arabic. Through library research, the main data source is Mu'jam at-Ta'bir al-Ishthilahi. Data collection techniques are reading techniques and note-taking techniques. The determining element sorting technique is used to analyze the data. The results of this study show that white and black are the dominant elements in forming Arabic idioms, followed by yellow, green, and red. White color is dominated by positive connotations, although there are uses with negative and neutral connotations. In contrast, black is dominated by negative connotations, and there is one data with positive and neutral connotations. The colors yellow and green only have negative connotations. Meanwhile, red has both positive and negative connotations. There are full and partial idioms in terms of the meaning of the forming elements. In terms of grammatical construction, there are three categories:  First, N + Adj. The colors in this construction are all attribute elements. Second: Intransitive verb + N, which is one case. Third: V + Preposition 'ala + Adjective, which is one case. Fourth: Verb + preposition + Adjective + conjunction + adjective, which is one case. The implication is that color symbolization is closely related to people’s perceptions. In Arab society, giving connotations to black is more dominant as a negative or white as a positive symbol. However, color connotations are not closed. The connotation of a particular color is closely related to the language user's perception of the object.

Abstract

The Gorontalo language, an Austronesian language spoken in Sulawesi, exhibits rich morphological processes that remain under-documented. As one of the regional languages of Eastern Indonesia, Gorontalo represents a crucial yet underrepresented component of Austronesian linguistic diversity, making its systematic description both timely and necessary. This study investigates its morphological typology, focusing on affixation, reduplication, and agglutinative structure to determine how words are formed and how the language fits within Austronesian morphological frameworks. The investigation is situated within contemporary debates in typology that view morphological systems as dynamic and sensitive to social and communicative pressures. While Gorontalo language is increasingly threatened by the dominance of Indonesian and declining intergenerational transmission, this research prioritizes structural analysis to capture its core morphological mechanisms before potential attrition accelerates. This urgency reflects broader concerns in language endangerment studies, where loss of morphology often precedes large-scale grammatical erosion. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, primary data were collected through field interviews with native speakers across various age groups and social backgrounds. The inclusion of multiple generations allows the study to capture ongoing morphological change alongside established usage patterns. Complementary data were drawn from oral narratives, traditional expressions, and informal conversations. Thematic analysis identified recurring morphological patterns, with attention to both form and sociocultural context. The analysis categorized affix types, examined reduplication functions, and assessed the degree of agglutination versus fusion in word formation. Results indicate that 18 active affixes (10 prefixes, 5 suffixes, and 3 confixes) were identified, demonstrating a highly productive system of affixation as the primary word-formation strategy. Reduplication functions flexibly, not only for plurality but also for aspect, intensity, and lexical derivation. Gorontalo displays predominantly agglutinative morphology, with clearly segmented morphemes combined cumulatively. However, morphophonemic fusion and simplified usage among younger speakers suggest a transitional typology, reflecting ongoing structural change. This study contributes empirical detail to Austronesian linguistics by documenting the morphological dynamics of an understudied language. These findings have direct pedagogical and typological implications, supporting language preservation initiatives, the development of local curricula, and the design of digital tools such, as morphological analyzers and learning applications. It challenges static typological classifications and offers practical insights for language preservation, local curriculum development, and digital documentation tool.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the effectiveness of al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk learning on the speaking skills of female students at MTs Al-Islam Telaga Biru Gorontalo by comparing the results of short-term memory and long-term memory. The study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a sample of 25 female students in grade 97. The learning process took place over one week (November 25-29, 2025) using Chapter 7 (الدِّرَاسَة) with communication-based learning activities such as hiwar, paired conversations, and picture descriptions. Speaking skills were assessed using a 1-100 scale rubric with aspects of fluency, structural accuracy, pronunciation, vocabulary, and interaction. The results showed an average short-term memory score of 90.16, with 20 students in the good category and 5 in the fair category. In the long-term memory test, the average score decreased to 83.04, with 14 students in the good category, 9 in the fair category, and 2 in the poor category. These findings indicate that al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk learning is effective in improving speech skills in the short term, but long-term retention requires continuous practice.
