Abstract

Abstract. This study investigates how Wonosobo Regency—a region known for its cultural heritage and natural landscapes—navigates the complex interplay between economic development, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation. It examines the role of the Knowledge-Based Economy (KBE) as a key enabler of glocalization, allowing the region to adopt global best practices while maintaining local identity. Through literature review and policy analysis, the study finds that KBE enhances sustainable tourism governance by fostering local knowledge production, innovation, and stakeholder collaboration. The application of ICT, human capital development, and data-driven policies contributes to more effective tourism management and cultural safeguarding. Moreover, circular economy principles and community-based tourism initiatives help balance growth and conservation. The findings suggest that integrating KBE strengthens Wonosobo’s global competitiveness without eroding its cultural uniqueness, offering valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to promote glocalization in culturally and ecologically significant regions.

Abstract

Abstract: After his inauguration as the 8th President of Indonesia, President Prabowo decided to increase the number of ministers, deputy ministers, and ministerial-level officials. Under Prabowo’s administration, there are 48 ministries, a significant increase compared to the previous government. Naturally, this expansion corresponds to a larger state budget allocation to support ministerial performance. However, through Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2025, President Prabowo mandated budget efficiency in state and regional expenditures (APBN-APBD) for 2025. Though some remain unaffected, several ministries and state agencies have reduced their budgets in response to this instruction. This situation underscores an apparent inconsistency between these two early policies of Prabowo’s administration. This study aims to analyze this inconsistency using a qualitative case study approach. The findings indicate that although President Prabowo’s policies appear contradictory, they are driven by specific motives, namely accommodative-compromising interests and transactional politics in the expansion of ministries, as well as the need to allocate a substantial portion of the budget to his populist initiative: the free nutritious meal initiative. Abstract

Indonesia has increasingly engaged in Afghanistan’s peacebuilding process, yet the specific mechanisms linking this engagement to the construction of state identity remain underexplored. This article analyzes why and how Indonesia constructs and projects moderate Islamic identity to shape its foreign policy in Afghanistan under President Joko Widodo. Using the theory of constructivism and qualitative discourse analysis of officials statements, policy documents, publications from Indonesian Islamic civil society, and academic works, this article examines how environmental structures influence policy construction. The findings reveal that this identity is constructed as a response to both external structures, specifically the failure of militaristic approaches in Afghanistan and the proliferation of radical Islamic groups, and internal structures, namely domestic political polarization. Consequently, Indonesia projects moderate Islam as a “soft-power” instrument to offer alternative conflict resolution mechanisms in Afghanistan while concurrently reaffirming such identity and maintaining domestic consolidation. This article contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering a nuanced understanding of how religious identity functions as a dual mechanism for international mediation and domestic stability in Muslim-majority democracies.
