Abstract

The development of social media has given rise to the phenomenon of flexing as a form of self-expression in the contemporary era, where individuals deliberately show off their wealth, achievements, or luxurious lifestyles to build a self-image. This research aims to examine flexing within the framework of personal branding using a maqashid interpretation approach. The method used is library research and qualitative to trace the interpretation of verses related to the meaning of flexing. This research reveals three main findings, namely the meaning of flexing from the perspective of popular culture and social psychology, verses related to flexing in the review of maqashid interpretation and Maqashid-based personal branding solutions. The result, from the perspective of popular culture and social psychology, suggests that flexing serves as a display of wealth for social validation and as a manifestation of the need for others to recognize oneself. Based on the analysis of the Qur'anic verses (QS. Al-Hadid: 20, Luqman: 18, At-Takatsur: 1-2), flexing contradicts the principles of maqashid shari'ah, especially in the aspects of protecting religion (hifzh al-din), soul (hifzh al-nafs), intellect (hifzh al-aql), offspring (hifzh al-nasl), and property (hifzh al-mal). As a solution, personal branding can be applied in line with Islamic values by emphasizing the importance of self-authenticity, cultivating an attitude of gratitude, and creating content that has social benefits.

Abstract

The hadith that mentions women, donkeys, and dogs can cancel prayers when passing in front of people who pray has caused controversy, mainly because it is considered to contain gender bias. This study aims to examine the validity of the matan hadith through the approach of matan criticism according to al-Adlabi in Manhaj Naqd al-Matn 'Inda 'Ulamā' al-Ḥadīth al-Nabawī. The method employed is a literature study that involves tracing the hadith in al-Kutub al-Tis'ah and analyzing it based on four criteria: conformity with the Qur'an, sahih hadith, the Prophet's sirah, rationality, and historical context, as well as editorial feasibility. The results of the analysis show that, although the sanad of the hadith is considered authentic, it contains problems: it is not in line with the Qur'an, it contradicts Aisha's history and the Prophet's practice, and it juxtaposes women with animals in the context of worship. This study emphasizes the importance of critically analyzing the hadith so that our understanding of it remains in harmony with the values of justice, common sense, and humanity in Islam.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of social media has made it easier to disseminate religious information, including in the field of hadith. However, this opens up space for the dissemination of weak traditions (dha'if) that are not necessarily authentic. This study aims to explore the pattern of the spread of weak traditions on social media in the Instagram account @Hadits_lemah. The method used is library research with a semiotic approach. This research will reveal three things, first the characteristics of weak traditions in the @Hadits_lemah account, second the pattern of spreading weak traditions in the account and third the strategy to minimize the spread of weak traditions on social media. The result is that the characteristics of weak traditions are varied and contemporary in nature. The pattern of the spread of weak traditions has been identified by the form of presentation of the content and the response of the netizens, while the strategy to minimize it is by collaboration between scholars and experts in Technology to ensure the validity of the traditions that will be practiced by ordinary people in the digital realm.

Abstract

This study examines the epistemology of irfani in Al-Ghazali's thought and its relevance in the interpretation of Ma'rifatullah verses in the Qur'an. The irfani approach is a method of acquiring knowledge based on spiritual experience, piety, and purification of the soul. Al-Ghazali, through his works such as Iḥyā 'Ulūm al-Dīn and Miṣbāḥ al-Hidāyah, places spiritual intuition (dzauq), divine tajalli and mujahadah as the primary foundation in attaining knowledge of Allah (ma'rifatullah). This study uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutic and descriptive-critical analysis approach to Al-Ghazali's works, by highlighting verses such as QS. Āli 'Imrān [3]: 190–191 and QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 282, this study shows that the irfani approach offers a pattern of interpretation that combines the dimensions of reason, dhikr, and contemplation, thus going beyond the limits of textual interpretation that relies only on language and logic devices. The results of the study also confirm that Irfani epistemology has a significant contribution to the development of spiritual interpretation (isyari) and is very relevant to present a more holistic, transformative, and touching understanding of the Qur'an for Muslims.

Abstract

The protection of women's dignity from baseless accusations remains critical from classical to modern times. This study examines Q.S. An-Nur verses 6-9 concerning li'an using Fazlur Rahman's double movement hermeneutic to uncover ethical principles protecting women's dignity actualized in contemporary contexts. This research aims to analyze Fazlur Rahman's hermeneutic framework, examine classical mufassir interpretations of li'an, and contextualize women's dignity protection through the double movement perspective. Through qualitative literature review, this study employs two movements: understanding the 7th-century patriarchal Arab context and extracting universal moral values for modern challenges. Findings reveal a revolutionary divine intervention, transforming women from accused objects to active legal subjects with equal rights. Five implicit principles emerge: dignity protection ('ird), procedural justice, defamation prevention, nasab protection, and disgrace covering (sitr). These principles address contemporary issues including digital defamation, intimate content distribution, and social media slander through strengthening presumption of innocence, guaranteeing defense rights, protecting privacy, and imposing strict sanctions against false accusations. This research advances ethical Qur'anic interpretation methodology, formulates five previously unarticulated ethical principles, and provides a concrete framework for protecting women's dignity in the digital era, affirming the Qur'an's responsive ethical paradigm across time.
